The General who accused any troops who supported keeping the A-10 to Congress of TREASON has been fired.

UK government "lying" about Energy and environmental policies?

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/08/01/uk_must_abandon_growth_to_cut_co2/

I would not be surprised if both sides are lying about some of the facts, but if Greens are arguing that wealth growth is a bad thing that makes environmental improvements impossible, then...

a related article said that the Green energy policies of the government have increased energy costs dramatically, NOT Gas markets...

I believe that Green technologies can make improvements, but someone has to pay for them, and I sure as HELL can't afford to.    I can't even afford to replace my dual pane windows, several of which have deteriorated internally so they look like they are frosted.   i sure can't afford to increase the insulation on the house, install a ground source heat pump and combined Solar Thermal and photovoltaic panels on the roof.

Heck, I can't even afford to put awnings shading the South windows in order to cut the solar heating during the summer.

    Blech.

No, but there isn't a lot of excess fat anyway. The meat isn't raised to be sold (i.e., the animals aren't overfed to pack on excess pounds), it's raised for their own (and their relatives') consumption.

I like lamb. My mother refuses to eat for part of the same reason that I like it. We used to raise the smelly things. She still thinks of lambs as the cute clouds in the pasture. Eating lamb now is payback for the times I got drug through the mud, knocked over into the mud, and the times I just wound up smelly.

There was a place in town here that just closed a couple of months ago. Best gyros I've ever had. The owner, chef, and most of the staff (family run restaurant) were Greek immigrants. I was very sad when they closed.

Well, the WITNESS product line had been out for years, then they announced the "Hunter" Model.   I never put it together that way.

Actually, I may have inspired the hunter model with an Email to them a few years before they brought it out.   Almost exactly what I suggested, and I was focused on the 10mm cartridge...

Read a story yesterday that Arizona governor has just signed a law that will make it so that assets seized will not remain the police department's property unless a guilty verdict. I can still see ways to abuse, but that should have been the way all along.

There might be, but electronic media hasn't been around long enough for any of it to fall into the public domain, and the corporate stooges responsible statesmen in Congress keep extending the time it takes before copyright expires.  (For example, how many written works fall into the public domain this year?  Zero, because we're still stuck in one of those extension periods.)

    Anyone for tennis?

Did the cop have a right to panic when his taser was taken away? I'll say... yes. Did his fear give him leave to shoot an unarmed man (mostly in the back) 8 times?
    I'll say... hell no.
Did his fear give him the right to plant the taser by the dying/dead man's side to make for a better excuse? I'll say F**K NO!

So.. that's where I stand on that one.

True. I suppose "assholes" is a little strong. I'm pretty sure we can that going into a "Insert Religion/Group Here" and asking for a "Said Religion/Group Sucks" cake isn't really the same as asking for a "Congratulations Barry and Milo" Cake. (Or Pizza)

hmmm the can cannon might make and interesting deployment tool for tactical surveillance systems you could launch a unit with a high def video/ thermographic capability over a target with a parachute to give it hang time or shoot one with a self righting system into a room to act as your eyes and ears.

you could even make the thing look like a dented coke can and the chute look like a shopping bag so it can sit on site undisturbed.

I find your position indefensible, so I think it's entirely appropriate to call you on it. It's no less prejudice to paint a whole group -- on which I'm a former member of, and have many friends who are members of -- with a broad brush because they serve as law enforcement officers than it would be if they were members of a minority or any other group. That's patently wrong. You are wrong for having done so. In case you haven't noticed, I've taken offense to that statement.

You don't want to change your beliefs? That's fine. Don't expect me not to call you on it if you express those beliefs in an offensive manner.

Don't start the quoting nonsense again. There is systematic corruption in certain areas. Would you have been happier had I said "many areas"? I'm not saying the problem isn't widespread, I'm saying that not all cops are criminals, thugs and murderers, but agreeing with you that in at least some areas/departments, it's a major problem.

You should probably not act like a racist by painting a whole group of people with a broad brush. You're using the same language as a racist when you do so.

All I'm asking for you to do is to tone down the broad brush strokes and be a bit more precise. If you said that we have widespread problems with police abusing their authority, then I'd agree with you 100%. Just avoid the all inclusive insults.

I don't really have a huge beef with you, and like you well enough, I'm just offended at the constant 'all cops are bad' mantra. It doesn't sound any better coming from a fellow board member than it does coming from the crowd in that video I linked earlier, who were impeding an investigation with the nonsense. It's a non-productive approach. It's hate mongering. I don't like any form of hate mongering -- and I don't think you do either. I think you don't see your statements as such and are just venting, but I want you to know that said venting is offensive and non-productive.

Man, you have to split a lot of hairs to keep your prejudices looking clean. I believe you that most guys don't go raping people. I also believe the vast majority of cops aren't suspect. Clearly you disagree there but I can give you just as many acts of civilian on civilian brutality. Man on woman, Man on child, woman on child, less women on men if only because it's not reported as often - or taken seriously. Yeah men don't choose to be men (although that's not entirely true but hey we'll leave transgenders out of this discussion, but they do choose their violence - much like the police you mistrust. So getting all defensive at women who throw the same stereotypes in your face about what other men do is EXACTLY how the cops (or former cops who probably haven't murdered anyone) on the boards feel when you spew your all encompassing hate and vitriol.

All that said, feel free to judge groups as a gelatin mold whole, it's your opinion. But please excuse me if I continue the default that your arguments hold less weight because of it.

I've known no German cops. The only one's I've encountered are the ones who pulled me over. The few I've had to call to my building when I was in a position of authority to do so, and the guy who was my older brother's friend in high school.

(and our Board Members who are/were police officers, but never met them)

And again, even if I had a personal experience with a dirty cop I've had personal experiences with three rape victims (2 female, 1 male) I've had personal experiences with numerous thieves (one man who held me at gun point when I was working at Taco Bell. Some jackasses who broke into my storage unit (I actually suspect the people who ran the place) Two Bank Robbers, An abusive father, an alcoholic uncle. Seven shoplifters (one being myself) and a guy who lied about being in the military.

Cops have made up an incredibly small slice of the humanity I've had direct contact with. Maybe you have had more - maybe you haven't.

My major beefs are with banks (worked for one for dozen years) storage companies ( ) environmental bugbears (work for an asbestos/Environmental Engineering firm) School Bureaucrats (grew up in a family of teachers) and of course, Limp Bizcuit fans.

You mean like all men are (potential) rapists, and all gamers are losers who live in their parents' basements?

If you're going to paint a group with one broad brush in one thread, please don't get all bristly when your group gets thusly painted in another; it's unseemly. Unless, I suppose, you're raging against Doombots - let's face it there's precious little variation in their behavior.

I've met a fair number of policemen and women who have never been anything but decent, pleasant human beings. I've met a few who've been jerks; some sanctimonious, some not. Only violent people I've encountered were of the non uniform but rather inebriated variety. Perhaps  I've been pretty lucky.

I've finally come to the conclusion that the A-10s and CAS mission should be given to the Army and/or Marines.  Along with the funding.  If the USAF hates the job that much, let's give it to someone who'll do it right.
