  1. Re: Musings on Random Musings

Sometimes I try to do things and it just doesn't work out the way I wanted

to. I get real frustrated and I try hard to do it and I take my time and it

doesn't work out the way I wanted to. It's like I concentrate real hard and it doesn't work out, everything I do and everything I try never turns out

It's like I need time to figure these things out, but there's always someone there going "Hey you know we've been noticing you've been having a lot of problems lately. You know, maybe you should get away and maybe you should talk about it, maybe you'll feel a lot better", and I go "No it's okay, you know, I'll figure it out, just leave me alone I'll figure it out. You know, I'll just work by myself". And they go "Well you know if you want to talk about it I'll be here you know and you'll probably feel a lot better if you talk about it, so why don't you talk about it?"

And I go, "No I don't want to! I'm okay, I'll figure it out myself and they just keep bugging me! They just keep bugging me! It builds up inside and it

    builds up inside.

    Would you like a Pepsi?

I've got another job interview tomorrow afternoon. I sure hope things go well. I really need somoeone to hire my ass. I need a job' date=' now! i7pfrusty.gif[/quote']

    Good luck!

I've got a couple job prospects. One is a "tedius and pays crappy", but better than a sharp poke in the eye. I'd like to avoid that one.

The other is under development with a startup. In other words, rather vague, but I trust the people that I'd be working with. Possible good pay off and a lot of work. And I'd be working in California while still living in Portland.

  3. Re: STUN Reduction

In my experience, the single best power a character can have is Stun Damage Reduction. Just look at how ugly/broken 80 points can be (75% for both Phys and Energ.)... and you want to REDUCE that cost? Holy criminey? Your combats will never end... :nonp:

All I can say is, if you actually allow PCs to have 75% DR... I can't believe you'd actually lower the cost. That's just scary!

Well, in my experience that could be 40/40 PD & ED so it's not as bad. There are some other considerations like NNDs, the effect of not being stunned and such, but you have to get to a certain number of dice before it's always better than just straight defenses.

That being said, I wouldn't go for the combined. I do allow damage reduction vs. certain SFX apply to regardless of PD/ED. (just to avoid edge cases).

Of course, STUN only is suspect in my book since in most cases if your base defenses are high enough, you rarely have to deal with reducing the body. (And i've been in games with a few 15/16 reduction things running about)

  4. Re: When do you Abort?

I don't like GMs who pull that, but at least he's letting you learn what type of blast is coming later. It's not my style though. I let the PC know what's coming. Pretty much the character is trying to get out of the way as the SFX and I'll let the better option be the game mechanic

  5. Re: Musings on Random Musings

    "Interesting" day at work today...

We have a fair number of local legal firms as clients, and often get "file jobs" from them; jobs that involve copying all the case materials for a given case. Other, smaller jobs involve copying photos of a crime or accident scene.

I started wondering what was up when everyone in the office seemed to want to pass today's color copy job to someone else. The answer was forthcoming in the actual order instructions, which included the note: "Please do not copy photos of the deceased." Much to everyone's (apparent) relief, this didn't bother me.

Had me wondering: have I really been directly exposed to death (of another person) much more than the average person over the past 40 years (twice, in my case)?

Hmm. From what you described, wouldn't of bothered me either. Unless I knew the deceased and then it's a maybe. But then I've toured morgues.

Not that it really matters, but I figured I'd let everyone know that the surgery went great, and now I'm floating high on Percosit (sp?)

Thanks for the well-wishes those who gave it. And for you others... I leave you all to mightybec :)

Cool that the surgery went well. Hope the recovery goes well.

note: just saw the pain post. owie. Would some toast help? That helped me with various meds.

It's for an ingrown toenail they've removed twice and has always grown back ingrown and infected.

So now they're removing the toenail, and the nail growth material behind the nail. For those that don't know, that means removing the top layer of the skin from the tip to just past the first knuckle or so.

Apparently they're going to give me a spinal injection for anesthesia, use a tournequete on my leg and are taking all sorts of precautionary steps prior to the surgery itself, such as a Chest X-Ray, Bio-Signs check and urinary test.

    Whee I'm soo excited.

Yowza. That's a lot of stuff to do. The one ingrown I had has been trouble free.

Similar procedure to having a cat declawed.

  8. Re: The cranky thread

If it's any consolation' date=' I was sparring with my tkd instructor and got a big toe in the left eye, and I'm talking about getting poked in the white of my eye. Today at Krav Maga, I got poked again since we were doing escapes from carotid chokes (sleeper holds). My right eye got poked too, so at least I have a matching pair. :ugly:[/quote']

Ouch. There were a couple weeks in Kenpo where I was getting smacked in the nose a lot. I think it was just shy of being broken, but man was it tender. (That and the bleeding was not good)

  9. Re: The cranky thread

Oh, you were in the zone! Alesia told me but from the boundary they described you were supposed to be south of that. Fortunately it missed us.

Did you hear what caused it? A squirrel! And SS is nowhere to be seen... hnmm...

Hmm. Must of been one of his minions. Well, I did get some reading done.

  10. Re: Musings on Random Musings

That's okay' date=' I just got Outlook 2002 at work and an error message regarding skipping spell check or any other sort of similar error (no subject line, for example), after a phrase about the error, says, "Do you want to proceed anyway[b']s[/b]?" I can't believe that passed QA.

It's people like me doing the QA. :D

Hmm, though I always got someone who was a spelling & grammar nazi to check messages.
