  1. Re: Musings on Random Musings

I ressurrected it. I was tempted to post' date=' "Main redeeming feature is the fact he doesn't post often."[/quote']

I try to keep cross thread stuff to a minimum, especially in threads that are supposed to be light hearted. Pretty much if you hit someone even when they're being civil for a change, do you really expect them to play nice ever again?

  2. Re: Musings on Random Musings

That is freaky. Of course you have way too common a name.

The downside though of my name is that despite its rarity, in a part of the south almost anyone with the last name has a comparatively high likelihood of having been wanted or being wanted by the law.

The freaky part was "This is so and so from the FBI calling for Mark Morgan"

I did have the thought "How do I know you're from the FBI?", but since he never asked anything that I found dodgy I didn't worry too much.

Hmm, now that I can't find that Net Central board, maybe I shouldn't of given him your name?

    :D

Ok' date=' so Zornwill and Court Fool were exchanging pleasantries on a different thread, and I got to wondering: What happens when you give Court Fool rep? I looked, and all you can give him is positive rep. That got me thinking. I mean, if he likes his red dots, is giving him [i']any[/i] rep equivalent to giving him negative rep? If so, how has Ben reconciled it with his conscience that no one can ever give him what he would consider positive rep?

This makes my brain hurt. I'm going to work now...

I suspect that Court Fool has more Neg Rep than everyone else added up.

    Unemployment: Day Nine

I got the call that they want me to start training on Monday 24th. I guess this means I am no longer unemployed, technically. I just need to meet with my contractor on Tuesday to fill in some paperwork and then go get a drug test.

Now to see if I can actually enjoy the next week-and-a-half off.

    Congrats!

Do you ever think back on what might have been if you'd done something different with your life? For example' date=' decades ago, I came within one word of applying for the FBI--and I told the recruiter 'no'. But what if I had decided to join the FBI anyway, even though they could have had me posted anywhere in the country? Would things have been any better? Worse? Or just different? I'd almost certainly have spent a fairly large chunk of my life in a completely different state.[/quote']

I've got a bunch of them. I'm not happy with my life right now in terms of career, but I'm happy with my past decisions for the most part. But I do wonder what would of happened with some of the choices I had.

I wonder how much trouble I would get in if I tried to sell my collection of Magic: the Gathering cards on the NGD in an attempt to raise money for my taxes and John's glasses...

That would really be a question for Ben & Steve. I'd frown on it, but it's not my board. ;)

I actually sold all my cards Thursday Night. I had ~10,000 cards and dumped them for $1500. These were Antiquities - ~5th edition. The Moxies & Lotus had already been sold sometime ago (full set for $800).

When I looked over on Blackborder.com the prices made it look like I got a good deal and the guy that bought them should be able to make money off them all. The nice thing was that I had a printout of all my cards seperated by set & edition from when I was into playing. And doing a check for the valuable cards showed they were all there which was cool.

I found my buyer thru a nickel ad paper.

I lived in Seattle for a while, but never developed the Ocean Addiction. I am afraid I would, if I was closer too it.

You might not like some Spokane features. DRY hot summers and we currently have 5" of snow on the ground, more falling. :(

I grew up with visual site of SF Bay and if I walked up to the top of the driveway, I'd see the Pacific. And Jenn grew up 3 blocks from the beach...

Hot Dry is preferable to Humid Hot. ;)

  8. Re: Musings on Random Musings

Hey, check the Spokane area out. Wages are lower, but so are prices.

No ulterior motives here... NO sir!

I'll look, but we're intending on keeping the place here. Jenn would stay in Portland while I would rent a room or studio if it's outside commute distance. We've done it before, it's just not ideal.

(Though Spokane is even further from the ocean. I still have that dependance... )

Though if I recall, one of the Kenpo studios is in the Spokane area.

  9. Re: Mr. Monster type campaign?

Has anyone run a Mr. Monster sort of campaign' date=' a two-guns big-fisted and slightly light with only occassional darkness anti-monsters campaign? What are your thoughts/experiences?[/quote']

I've always liked the comics and love to steal bits and pieces for incorporation elsewhere. Of course the bit about the origin is one of my favorites.

  10. Re: Musings on Random Musings

Now THERE'S a good idea. John's sleep apnea is HORRENDOUS (although, truth be told, the fact that he's about forty to sixty pounds overweight doesn't help at all... not that I'm mocking him on the weight thing, mine is worse).

We'd like for him to get the surgery, but ain't no way we can afford it right now (unless his insurance will cover it, and no idea how to go about handling all that)...

My insurance at the time covered it. Something I found out later was that surgery isn't always effective. I think they're pretty good at not doing it then. And weight is a big factor in the problem. I had wound up gaining weight just before hand as well which made the problem worse, etc... Pap (?) machines are prescribed often if they don't think surgery is the viable option.

My process for getting the surgery:

    1) Bouncing between doctors for several years who didn't have time to realize my constantly being tired and worsening immune was that I wasn't sleeping well. (The company I was at bounced thru six plans in one year during this time and most of this I had to switch doctors. )

    2) Started living with my wife. She noticed my snoring getting worse and my sleep pattern.

    3) Switched to a better job, better health plan, same doctor.

    4) My wife started pushing for this to be looked into and came with me to the doctor (a GP) and described my sleeping behavior.

    5) My doctor has me see a specialist.

    6) My doctor prescribed a sleep study. This consisted of one night being wired up with monitors all over the place on me and one of those finger thingies that can tell how much oxygen is in your blood.

    7) Turned that in the next day. Less than a week later, the specialist says he'd like to schedule surgery

    8) Surgery happens about one month before our honeymoon. They take my uvela, shave the palette, and take out my tonsils. I lose 30 lbs just becuase it's incredibly painful to eat. (Jello, canned peaches, soup) for two weeks. I also get six packs of vicodin liquid.

    9) I get to learn how to drink again. Having a more wide open area back there means I sometimes would have stuff come out my nose if I gulp the wrong way.

Between steps 4 & 8, a coworker in another office woke up with her husband dead beside her. Apnea.

  11. Re: Musings on Random Musings

I'm beginning to think I have sleep apnea.

Damn. I had that, took about six years to get it pushed thru via my doctors and because of my wife. We wound up sleeping in different rooms because I was so loud. I'd stop breathing, then suddenly snort, wheeze, etc... very loudly. Took six months of prodding my insurance from my doctor to get a sleep study. Three weeks after my study I was having surgery since they considered it life threatening.
