  1. I am currently building a Mask (Jim Carrey) style hero. She has a mystic mask that when she puts it on she transforms into one of various incarnations trapped in the mask. She has, currently at least, no control over who comes out only of when she puts on the mask. There are only 2 personalities in the mask at the moment but as time goes on the others will awaken as well. When the transformation is done, she is put in the background and doesn't exercise full control over the body anymore. This is a problem because not all of the inhabitants are receptive to the idea of playing second fiddle to a human. So she often has to have a battle of wills with some of her alternate personalities. I was trying to think of a good way to simulate this battle of wills in the rules. Any suggestions? Thank you, La Rose. PS. Current build of the power (without issue of lose of control or need for the battle of the wills) is: Mystic Mask: Multiform (175 Character Points in the most expensive form) (x2 Number Of Forms) (40 Active Points); OAF (-1), No Conscious Control (Only Effects cannot be controlled; -1), Concentration (1/2 DCV; -1/4), Nonpersistent (-1/4) She is the domenient personality incase the form is knocked out or falls asleep. It is a disad on the write up above becuase when physically compared she is almost always the weaker of the forms. But given the issue above, I am thinking that it might be a -0 limitation. Any thoughts on this? Thanks again.
  2. Re: Archaeologist Thanks again to everyone's suggestions. I think I have the skills that I want now, but still interested in any ideas. Now what I am in need of is a good source for old myths and legends of Europe. The character isn't quite a stereo type Dr. Jones but rather she is a blend of him and the Mask (Jim Carrey). Her mask however isn't just a quirky demigod, but a collection of various beings of legend (mostly oriented to females). Things like Valkyries, whiches, doppelgangers, etc. But I am trying to find a good resource on looking some things up. It doesn't have to be explicitly European legends, as I will blend in others as well, but that is where I want the main focus to be. Does anyone know a good place for me to look of such lore? Again any help is appreciated. La Rose
  3. Re: Archaeologist I will try and find it. And I hadn't thought about some of those skills. Thanks. KS: Ancient Languages. Great Idea! Again great idea with the bonus to Languages. Thanks One and All. Once I get done with the characters I will have to post it. La Rose
  4. So I was writing up an archaeologist style characters and was trying to think of a good array of Science skills to complement the character. I am stumped on this as I do not know what an archaeologist would find useful. Suggestions? Of course I have Archaeology and Geology, just nothing else. La Rose

  9. I have a character design for Susano's thread: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1759841#post1759841. and what I am needing is to find a way to build a Disad that in essence, gives a bonus to Danger sense or even triggers a roll without the character even doing anything. I couldn't think of any good way to do that with the current list. I was just going to custom it. But I don't know what it should be worth. Any suggestions on the point value for it, or a better way to do it? La Rose
  10. Re: Susano's Song-Based DC NPCs I would like to submit a personal favorite. Alice Cooper's Poison. Lyrics: Your cruel device Your blood, like ice One look could kill My pain, your thrill I want to love you but I better not touch (Don't touch) I want to hold you but my senses tell me to stop I want to kiss you but I want it too much (Too much) I want to taste you but your lips are venomous poison You're poison running through my veins You're poison, I don't want to break these chains Your mouth, so hot Your web, I'm caught Your skin, so wet Black lace on sweat I hear you calling and it's needles and pins (And pins) I want to hurt you just to hear you screaming my name Don't want to touch you but you're under my skin (Deep in) I want to kiss you but your lips are venomous poison You're poison running through my veins You're poison, I don't wanna break these chains Poison One look could kill My pain, your thrill I want to love you but I better not touch (Don't touch) I want to hold you but my senses tell me to stop I want to kiss you but I want it too much (Too much) I want to taste you but your lips are venomous poison You're poison running through my veins You're poison, I don't wanna break these chains Poison I want to love you but I better not touch (Don't touch) I want to hold you but my senses tell me to stop I want to kiss you but I want it too much (Too much) I want to taste you but your lips are venomous poison, yeah I don't want to break these chains Poison, oh no Runnin' deep inside my veins, Burnin' deep inside my veins It's poison I don't wanna break these chains Poison La Rose

  12. Re: Calm the Storm Suppress doesn't have an upper ceiling to effect so you can buy a cheaper version of Suppress as compared to the Change Environment. The only question is on how fast you want it to act. While Suppress of comparable active points will take two to three attacks to stop the use of the power. And all though it does take multiple turns to completely stop the targeted power, it does work incrementally on it. So in a single turn the targeted power will lost about half of its affect. IE it turns a hurricane into a storm and then into nothing. Although I will agree that the average defense does and should usually cost less (this is qualified by the 3rd paragraph), but that ins't guaranteed. In this case the defense against the CE is also useful for a large verity of powers possessing the same spf/x. I cite the wind wall example above. Also how much cheaper do you want the defense to be? Is it reasonable that the Sunny Day CE that was presented should be able to cancel the hurricane? If so, then I can just build a character who spends 11 active points and cancel ALL CEs on the entire world (CE with +1 1/4 megascale). That would be awful! Last thought. Does Defense always cost less than the offense? I say no it doesn't. Think about a Energy blast as compared to ED. It cost 10 points to buy a 2d6 attack and yet it cost 12 points to completely stop the attack. That is a 20% mark up in cost to completely stop the effects of the power. It would seem that a complete defense actually cost MORE than the power it works against. Now yes I can stop the average damage for just 7 points of ED but still that is not going to stop the whole power as it only works fully half the time. So when it comes down to it, defense isn't cheaper compared to any single power but rather it only gets to have that aspect of 'being cheaper' because of our perceptions of gained affect. La Rose
  13. Re: Doesn't this sound like a gadgeteer villain idea to take over the world?
  14. Re: Doesn't this sound like a gadgeteer villain idea to take over the world? The cell phone was more quickly disseminated across the world than the Polio Vaccine. Yes the world cared more about calling up their cousin in another country than making sure that cousin could walk to the phone. After all if he had a Cell phone, he wouldn't have to walk to it. hm, Dr. D build a mind control device with a cool new cell phone around it. Markets it too, ohh I don't know, Apple. They in turn build tons of them and sell them through AT&T. Soon everyone has one right up next to their ears, receiving all the needed commands for him to take over the world! ITS settle, we must ban all cell phones from now on! La Rose
  15. Re: Calm the Storm If the storm isn't causing any negative effects on the players, then it probably isn't a storm. I think your right on the money. Creating a Sunny, nice day should be very very cheep. Something like a CE with +1 Temp, Megascaled. That is cheep and easy. BUT canceling a Horrible day shouldn't be. After all what if I am a Storm from the X-Men, and I create a hurricane. It cost me a good deal of points to do so. How easy should it be for someone to cancel that ability? In other words: Sunny Day: Change Environment 1" radius, +1 Temperature Level Adjustment, MegaScale (1" = 10 km; +1/2) (7 Active Points) ---Makes an average day into a clear sky with the sun shining Hurricane: Change Environment 1" radius, -3 to Sight Group PER Rolls, -4 to Hearing Group PER Rolls, -1 Temperature Level Adjustment, -2 Characteristic Roll and all Skill Rolls based on Characteristic (Dex), -4 OCV, -4" of any one mode of Movement (Running), -6" of any one mode of Movement (Flight), Multiple Combat Effects, Varying Combat Effects, MegaScale (1" = 10 km; +1/2) (148 Active Points) ---(rough draft, and lacks wind damage) Makes an average day into something equivalent to a Hurricane. Should Sunny day be allowed to counteract Hurricane? I don't think so. Quite simply, I don't think it should have any effect at all. La Rose
  16. I am looking for an online resource for designing character images. I have come across some in the past but didn't seem to save the web addresses for them. If any of you happen to know where I can find one, I would be much appreciative. La Rose
  17. Re: Calm the Storm The thing I most prefer when it comes to suppress as opposed to CE is the need to exactly mimic the storm. If you are building a CE to counter the effects of the storm, you need to have the same amount of effect built in. So if the storm is blowing at 60mph (IE the equivalent minuses) and your CE can only mimic 50mph then even after you finish with you power you are still left with a strong wind. Suppress on the other hand doesn't have such a worry. I don't have to build the suppress to mimic all the conditions of of any individual storm. If I build a CE to counter a strong tropical storm, what do I come across a Blizzard with sever temp changes? I have to have built the CE to be prepared for any of the possible weather conditions that I might come across. With Suppress I don't have to worry about such things. That is why I prefer Suppress to CE. La Rose
  18. Re: At What Cost? ah. I guess I misunderstood the concept then. So as long on as the character has come into contact and acquired the item into his tattoos he is able to manifest the item. And he will be able to have tattoos of more items then he could concievable manifest at any one time. So working from the example provided earlier. He could only manifest 15 real points of powers at a time but could concievably have 100 real points worth of tattoos on his body? Now in that case it might be best to remove the circumstance in which it can be changed that I placed on my example. However it would be worth noting that if the powers are not already pre-generated in the pool it could become troublesome to manifest in a stressful (such as combat, on the run, etc) situation. As he would have to be doing such an activity quickly and need to make a skill roll to achieve the effect. If he had them pre-generated in the pool it would save him the headache of rolling for that item. But this could be worked around by buying -no skill roll required or -cosmic on the Cost Control. As it relates to the number of tattoos, the mechanic of the pool total allows for you to have a justifiable benchmark to work from that is internally consistant with the basic rules. Any limit other than that would seem to be more arbitrary, although perfectly fine. Perhaps, if I may suggest, a limit of tattoos (when all built) equalling some multiple of the total pool value. Maybe 3x or 4x the value. That would give you and him a nice number to work from and as he buys up his VPP it will also increase the total he has access too. Although the downside of that idea, is that it still requires you to consider the build dynamic of all possible tattoos on the character and this can become tedious and time consuming. La Rose
  19. Re: Calm the Storm I would take the the example above of what it would cost to mimic the effects in a CE. The CE equivalent is what you are suppressing. It may be a natural things but that doesn't mean you couldn't map it like a power and effect it as such. So suppress 288pts of the environment and viola! La Rose
  20. Re: At What Cost? It seems to me that the power described above is best represented as a VPP. One that is of suitable size to fit most mundane items and then tack on two limitations. First is that it can only be changed in a given circumstance. The circumstance being given access to the item he will acquire. Part of the Special effect of the power is that it renders the original item: destroyed, useless, or missing. This could be linked to a simple cumulative RKA to get rid of the original. The next Limitation I think is appropriate is to put on IIF. It is Inobvious becuase out side of the use of the item there isn't a situation where one can be reasonably removed from the item, but in use of the item it becomes manifest and as such can be removed. This is to go as a blanket disad on the VPP since all power built inside it will be some kind of manifested object that the character manipulates. So in general low power terms I would envision something akin to this: 1.) Unmake: RKA 1d6; Limited Power Power loses almost all of its effectiveness (Only to unmake objects for VPP; -2), No Range (-1/2) 2.) Manifesting Tattoos: Variable Power Pool, 15 base + 3 control cost, VPP Powers Can Be Changed Only In Given Circumstance (-1/2), Linked (Unmake; -1/4); all slots IIF (-1/4) Although the link might just be better written as being a limited power. IE: Can only copy items that are currently being Unmade. La Rose
