  1. Based on a previous thread. This is just a simple question, have you ever had a character mind controlled? If so what happened? I will start off with my only experience. The Rose had come across some mysterious metal balls that bad guys were after and so took them to Dr. Silverback for examination. He started bombarding it with radiation to examine what it was and ended up unlocking it. It sucked in his lab and was about to suck him in, until I teleported him safety. But I ended up getting dragged into the mix. It was a type of Mini Mechanon that was designed to take over any character and then use its new form to wipe out all possible life around it. This meant that I was playing a supped up version of myself that was leagues beyond my comrades (ohh so many weapons!). I almost killed them all, but the GM allowed me to make extra ego rolls to diffuse the situation, but everytime I failed it was another PC knockout. End of the day it took, Technique, (her partner) my 3 other 350pt comrades, Silverback and me rolling ego checks to stop the infestation. This was also the night the GM rolled 5 consecutive critical failures in regards to my character. Once for Silverback to examine the obj. Twice for him to attack me with Silverback, and two more times for other NPCs. The odds were 1:470,184,984,576. Good Night, all things considered.
  2. Re: I killed a fellow PC last night... That is just his way of saying, "Hello!" But remind him that you were just doing him a favor. If his character wasn't dead, then he would be reminiscing on playing him rather than running the game. All you did was aid him in having a clear mind to focus on GMing. I for one say "thank you sinanju." He should too. La Rose

  6. Re: reincarnation I understand. Nor was I trying to imply that you were less honest and polite. I agree with you on all points. This was just a exercise in seeing what people (other than myself) would do in order to build such a power. If it seems reasonable I will then have something I could present to others (my group or what have you) as a possible build concept. I just personally enjoy seeing things being made by the book if possible. No need for it, and god knows I probably wont recall the build in the middle of a game (nor care) but just for my personal pleasure. Thanks again. The Triggered Duplication seems the most reasonable. Possible the transform as well. La Rose.
  7. Re: reincarnation ohh absolutely. I almost never prattle around trying to build powers like this. That is ones that are more plot device than power. But I thought it would be interesting to try (I have to much free time I guess). Thanks for everyone's thoughts. Soon the Flashlight of Truth and Inspiration will shine down upon us all. La Rose
  8. Re: "Outsider" perspective on Hero System Tasers and kicks to the groin, and other like events don't get the same use in Hero as other systems. But some of that is because other systems have it wrong. Think about a taser for example. How long is the shock hitting you before you go down? 5 seconds, that is a lot of time in Hero. Also a taser in real life isn't even a guaranteed take down (KO that is). A physically fit person can take a hit and still be conscious and even capable of movement; just most of them don't want to risk it after being hit. Also think about how hard it is to hit someone square in the groin so as to do the needed damage to KO them. It isn't easy. From personal experience (it hurts just to think about it) but I have kept going after getting one in the crotch, and I am far from average (below average that is). And again choke holds take time to do a KO. Think about watching some MAA fighters and how long it takes them to go under from a choke. I guarantee you that just because they got into it doesn't mean they can't get out in time to stay conscious. In summation, I don't think that Hero is so much at fault here as people are to accustomed to unnatural rules for damage in other systems. That was one thing I hated about DnD modern. The ability to KO someone was WAY to EASY. La Rose
  9. Re: "Outsider" perspective on Hero System Can anyone think of a real life example where something is completely immune to something else? a character being immune to fire was brought up earlier, but how is this possible? I mean to say that even a fire is susceptible to fire. Hence the phrase "fight fire with fire." Ie a fire will suffocate another fire. I think absolutes are an unrealistic (yes I know RPG aren't meant to be realistic to start with). It seems like (Disclaimer: I am not a physicist) even a Black whole could be ripped to shreds by even stronger gravitational fields. Only absolute I can think of is that you can't destroy mater or energy. Useless prattle, La Rose
  10. Hello, I have an NPC that I would actually like to build a power for. It is the ability of reincarnation. The NPC in this case is a form of immortal. He has lived for thousands of years through an endless cycle of reincarnation. Every time he/it dies a baby is born that will eventually become host to its intellect (I hate using the word host but it is the most apt word I can think of). Come the 18th birthday of the child, the intellect of the immortal (name is Jordyn) starts to take over. The child gains the memories and mental acuteness of Jordyn and eventually Jordyn takes over. To this end I want to build the power that allows Jordyn to reincarnate this way. He / it has no choice over this mater and has no say in who the next form will be. Only things that transfer from one host to the next is the memories. In game terms his only things that carry over are the INT, EGO and skills based on them. Otherwise it is just what ever fate throws at him. I wasn't sure how to do this. I thought it would be best represented as a form of Resurrection with various advantages and disadvantages. Just thought I would see what everyone else would do to build this. Thank you, La Rose
  11. Re: Which Champioin are you same here, but to be Honest I don't think the test is accurate. As anyone who knows me would confess, profusely, adamantly, well until you killed them even. But that's what friends are for, or so they tell me. La Rose
  12. Re: Disadvantages that Kill! Ok this isn't about a disavantage that the Rose took rather one that seemed as though it should have been taken. In the campaign he was in we didn't have any super brains in the group and required the assistances of Dr. Silverback. The Rose didn't mind the Dr. but absolutely hated his AI, as it was the reason why he got teleported into a furture where apprently he released the Kings of Edom and caused destruction of most of the world. It wasn't that he had issues with the future events rather that the AI wasn't even capable of teleporting him (yes a teleporter) to a friggin office. But back to the story. The Rose had in his possession some items he wanted examine. He was lead to believe they might be something Dr. Destroyer may have created and thought it best to take it to the good Dr. That was the night that the GM rolled 5 critical failures in a row. All regarding The Rose and All on behalf of Dr. Silverback. The Rose turned into a simi mechanon like character whose sole goal was to, yes you guessed it, detroy all organic life (outside of himself). Had it not been for The Roses arrogence and sense of Self importence overiding some of the system programs (ie a generous GM feeling sorry of the Player Party), He would have easily eliminated the Hero Team (3 others), Silverback, Technique and her partner, and probably most of down town Millinium city before he could have been stoppped. Moral of story, just call it quits when you get to the third crit failure and just assume a city block or two destroyed, heroes barely survived and one very very very pissed off PC beatting up a monkey on top of a building. La Rose
  13. Re: Multiple Fixed locations Now thatwas just stupid of me. I have never noticed those listed there before. Thank you GA. La Rose
  14. Hello Everyone, So I am attemting to build a teleportation using character, and I am having issue with one power that should otherwise be simple. This power is somewhat of an escape cluase, in that it allows him to get anywhere on Earth in a single jump, but is limited to areas he knows real well. I was going to do this, obviously, with Fixed locations for Teleportation. Then I decided that I would like to have them a tad bit more mobile, in that he can set various ones as he goes. So I came to the conclution to just buy mutiple Floating Locations, but here is the problem. There is no mechanic that I know of to buy mutiple Floating Locations inside a single power build. Although this isn't a big issue it is annoying. I was wondering if anyone knew of any mechanic introduced in any book to cover this? Or if there is perhaps a solution to this issue that I am not seeing. Again this isn't a big issue, since these powers are in a MP and only cost 1point each (yes I know this isn't book legal), so in the end it is the diferance of maybe a point or two, out of 500. Thank you, La Rose
  15. Re: A campaign for my kids That actually reads a lot like ravenswood. Also if you can, you might try and contact Dr. Anomoly. We have a Ravenswood game(the setting has modified from the book though), and even a full roster of students. I suggest checking out www.castle-walls.org/hero/teen/yearbookmain.html. It has a lot of things prepared, and the Dr. can give a lot of insight in the operations. Also I would love to field any questions, although I wasn't involved in the generation of the setting, I do know a few details that migth add flavor. Just a thought. Also I think the school thing might get old, quick. I know as a kid I would get bored fast playing a super version of myself that had to go to school. But maybe that is just me. La Rose
  16. Re: PRE Attacks repped That is a good Idea, I think will incorporate that as a standard in my games. Thanks, La Rose
  17. Re: WWYC say after meeting YOU? The Rose: [insert standard sound bite here]. I don't know if I would make that big of an impression on the Rose, although I would be absolutely amazed to meet him. Maybe find A way to work with him. Afterall working for a super is a sure fire way of ecoming a super in some random accident. La Rose
  18. Re: Defending the Earth: Giant Asteroid The Rose. Well being wholely unable to do anything on a personal lever to effect this, he would use his mass fortune to assemble and finance a exploritory team to design a method of fixing this. While holding constant press confrences to insure the public tranquility durring this trying time. Third and most important, finance a second super team to explore ways of teleporting him, his stuff, and a few good old flings to a brand new, astaroid free planet where he and them can go forth the busisness of repopulating the Human race. If for some reason plan A to C don't work, in the final minutes prior to the death of Earth He would Desperately attempt to Teleport to another planet. This is a real strech of his powers, even though he has a megascale jump it isn't on a stelar level. la Rose
  19. Re: Power Armored Heroes on 350pts I once tried to write up a spare character for a game that used powered armor. What I ended up doing was buying the entire suit as a vehicle, that had a multiform. It was both a Hayabusa Bike and a Power Armor Suit. I recall it being very cost effective, maybe to much so. I know that the character after buying all my stats, skills, powers, and the mech(vehicle, that was 60pts) he came out to be something like 250 points out of 350. Something to think about. And from all I have seen, building it as a vehicle is a valid concept, it perhaps a bit only munchkin side. La Rose
  20. Re: Does anyone have any idea... Tonio beat me to it. But yes they can go into an EC, and the line of thought is that the character is paying 50% more for the power at least, so it is a worthy trade off. The way I understand it, and I could be wrong. If you have a Drain/Suppress that targets the Framework (VPP or MP) it will will cuase all powers to be used at lesser than original effect becuase the Framework isn't at full effect, and if you drain/suppress the whole Framework, then no power inside it can work. Am I incorrect in this assumption? I will check my book when I get my hands back on it. Correct Tonio. In my example that I was working from I used 30 active points. When I built my Character for a teen champions game, we had 30active point caps for all powers. The character I had was a Teleios Jr style character with super science in Bio/Chem. So I built his VPP as 20pt pool and a 10pt cost control base, with no avantages. This ment it equaled 30active points. All powers I built inside the Pool, could only be at most 20active points (the cost of the pool). So my trade off was that I could build almost any power I needed in a given instence, but that power compared to others in the game would only be at 66% the max. That is the shortfall for VPP. La Rose.
  21. Re: Can you look this character over Agreed 100%. That is why in my version I had 50% DR (although not much standard D.) If I could find a way to fit more DR in there I would do it, but just not in 450pts. maybe I can tweek it more and find points that were once lost. La Rose
  22. Re: Can you look this character over I will try and post the text when I get back to my home comp. Equipment is more appropriate for Heroic games, and I tend to not treat a Jedi game as such. But that is my view on it. La rose
