  1. Re: Seed of Life spell I think you still need the Ranged advantage in there, otherwise the caster needs to touch the subject to begin the spell. But yeah otherwise it looks good written up like that too.
  2. Re: Seed of Life spell I'm not too familiar with 6e but in 5e this sounds like Uncontrolled. With Uncontrolled, you can pour END into the spell to power it once it "detaches" from the caster so to speak. Since you'd like for it to work four times, the caster would pour four times the END cost into it (or however many charges he'd like, why not?). Simplified Healing, Limited Range (to cast it across the room), AoE (Radius, Selective), Trigger (when target takes damage, resets automatically), Uncontrolled, Custom Limitation: Spell only lasts one minute or until all the END is spent I think that'll do it. It's actually a neat power idea, I hope it works well in your campaign. In the end, keep in mind that the exact writeup isn't important. You've described the spell exactly how you'd like it to work and the cost will be within a few points so just go with it and don't sweat the small stuff.
  3. Re: Bell curve spread? I think in the instance of englobing an opponent in a barrier, this is not something I'd allow one of my players to do very often. Barrier is a defensive power, Entangle is an offensive power. Yes, there's the potential to swap these out (encase a hurt friend in a block of ice, englobe an opponent in a barrier to trap them) but it shouldn't be abused. Look at the wording for the Power skill. It's used to do cool tricks with your powers, but if you do them a lot you really should pay points and buy a power to do that instead. Use your best judgement, that's why you're the GM and the players are the chumps who think they're smarter than you.
  4. Re: Bell curve spread? Hi RDU Neil! I remember you from several years ago as well. I just came back recently with a spark to run a Fantasy Hero campaign. I haven't adopted all the 6th edition rules yet, so I'm just sticking with 5th ed as much as I can. As for the barrier discussion, obviously everybody is going to have their own opinion. I'm sure the game designers did a lot of play testing to determine the point costs for powers like Barrier and Entangle and found the published values fair. If you, as the GM, find a player using them in a broken way then hit em with a banhammer! (Ban the power, not the player)
  5. Re: Help with Turakian Age conversion Some of the package deals might cost different amounts of points. This should become pretty clear once you enter them into Hero Designer though. Since the races have very few characteristic bonuses, the differences would be very minor.
  6. Re: Eve-Online tabletop edition? Extell, that's a lot of detail! I also like the idea of adders vs velocity and range. This is all very neat stuff, but I don't think I'd ever completely port this over for one reason: 1. My friends don't play Eve. I think a lot of the concepts would work really well for vehicular combat in any setting though. It seems like The Ultimate Vehicle was nice, but still lacking in some of these important details. Which book contains details on velocity based DCV? I haven't seen that anywhere.
  7. Re: What would happen - and at what cost? As long as they calculate the trajectory properly. But yeah, that's a bit scary.
  8. Re: Eve-Online tabletop edition? I haven't thought much else about it TBH. The VPP idea is nice because you can then simulate the CPU/Powergrid requirements of modules, sort of. That's something else HERO can't really simulate directly. Another problem is the idea of tracking vs. angular velocity. HERO never gave rules, that I'm aware of, for OCV penalties due to speed of the target. That is, it's just as easy to shoot a bullet in mid-flight as a sleeping person. Oh well, I'm babbling. I'll probably never run a campaign like this, but it's intriguing.
  9. Re: Eve-Online tabletop edition? LOL, well considered my main character is Minmatar, I love flying those junk buckets! Yeah, so the biggest guns for a battleship are 1400mm in EVE, my bad. However capital ships can get 3500mm. That's like the size of my living room. OK, cool idea on the limitations for the hull. That's an awesome idea. Just for the heck of it, here's what a Rifter might look like. It's a Minmatar frigate:
  10. Hey, so I haven't posted here in a few years or so. Good to be back! OK, so I play Eve Online casually. I'm also a DJ for the eve radio internet station, but that's not what this post is about! I was thinking, it would be awesome to play Eve as a tabletop RPG. And, I think using Hero rules would be a really good way to do it. A lot of the rules used in Eve have analogous rules in Hero. For example, battleships (technically large guns) have a hard time hitting frigates because they are so small, analogous to having lower DEX and/or a penalty due to large size. One of the nice things about Eve is each ship has a certain number of slots for modules. Each module fits in one of three slot types, high, medium, or low. Guns go in the high slots, shield enhancements go in mids, and hull enhancements in the low (basically). There's also electronic warfare that typically goes in the mids. There's not really any limitations for how much stuff you put on a vehicle in Hero, but I think that's something that could be handwaved. Then, it's a matter of creating the various modules under Hero system rules. Here are some examples: 1600mm Large Artillery Cannon: Killing Attack - Ranged 6d6 Webifier: Drain Flight 6d6 Afterburner: Succor Flight 6d6 (30 Active Points); Self Only (-1/2) Microwarp Drive: Succor Flight 20d6 (100 Active Points); Side Effects, Side Effect occurs automatically whenever Power is used (Negates up to -4 OCV for size penalties when getting shot at; -1), Side Effects, Side Effect occurs automatically whenever Power is used (Reduces END reserve by 25%; -1), Self Only (-1/2) Shield Booster: Healing BODY 4d6 (40 Active Points); Increased Endurance Cost (x3 END; -1), Self Only (-1/2), Only to restore lost shields (-1/2) Anyhow, let me know what you think. Has anyone tried this before? Did it go over well or bad? Does it have potential for awesomeness?
  11. Re: HD Pack for DC Guns? Okie dokie. Thanks! I'll just go through the horrible work of manually entering them as I need them.
  12. Does it exist? I couldn't find it in the store. I know the guns are all reprinted in the HERO Equipment Guide but there doesn't seem to be a pack for that.
  13. Re: Entangle vs CON? That's probably a better way of doing it. I think you'd have about 10 modifiers on the Entangle power. The drain would just be Uncontrolled, Gradual Effect, and/or Delayed Return Rate. In my experience, I've always used Drain for poisons and diseases. So, hopefully it will work for you.
  14. Re: Entangle Special Effects? OK, one more quick question. If the attack is Indirect, it can bypass the entangle right? For example if you were to call lightning down from the sky, it would have nothing to do with the entangle. Well, unless you targetted yourself I suppose.
  15. Re: Entangle vs CON? Then there's also "Can't be escaped with teleportation" +1/4. And "Can't be used to form barriers" -1/4.
  16. Re: Champions Personality Poll Choose one from each of the following groups: Group A 1. Cunning 2. Agile 3. Strong 4. Charismatic Group B 1. Superior Training 2. Supernaturally powered 3. Mutant 4. Divine 5. Technological 6. Science accident Well, it's a start...
  17. Re: A Question Regarding Limitations I think a good way to model it is with the limitation "Only following a grab move", at either a -3/4 or a -1. But then that means you have to grab one Phase, hang on to your opponent, then perform the Ego Attack the following phase. Also, you'll need to add the "Does BODY" advantage or an Ego Attack will only do stun.
  18. Re: Entangle Special Effects? I think I'm more confused now than before I read the last two posts. "especially if you didn't hamper the power with the limitation of only affect ferrous objects. I'd say it was something of a cheat if you had." Does that mean you agree the magnetic waves should pass through the vines and hurt the players unhampered? "Now, if it were a metal entangle, the -3 ED Magnetism enjoys vs ferrometallic physical barriers would make a difference, I imagine." Uhhhh? Never read UEP so I have no idea.
  19. Re: Anyone Care To Build ? BLACK ANGEL She looks... cold. Ice Blast: Energy Blast 12d6 Ice Cone: Energy Blast 6d6 (cone) Frozen to the Bone: Drain STR 6d6 Icy Prison: Entangle 3d6, 3 DEF And of course, Flight (restrainable). I know it's not a complete writeup...
  20. Re: Entangle Special Effects? Right, well you got me there.
  21. Re: Entangle Special Effects? OK, well let me setup another case. Let's say you use a pair of handcuffs on someone defined as an Entangle. Does that mean the handcuffed victim's eye beam has to go through the handcuffs first, even though there's no limitation on the eye beam that says "doesn't work on handcuffs"?
  22. Re: Question on Power Effect Yeah, you could do the same with swinging too! Back to the original post, I'd just write it up as an EB with limited range. If you want to prevent movement, also use Extra Time (full Phase). I think I'd just call it good with that, even if the target is directly above the user. No biggie.
  23. Re: Champions Personality Poll 1. Do you want to be tough? Yes. 2. Do you want to be strong? Yes. 3. Do you want to be smart? Yes. 4. Do you want to be fast? Yes. 5. Do you want to be powerful? Yes. In that case, make sure you use OIHID and OIF and Window of Opportunity...
  24. So, I ran a game on Wednesday and a situation came up. I haven't run many Champions games so it's fairly new to me. The players were fighting against Lodestone (from CKC). Basically he has magnetic powers, including an energy blast described as a magnetic wave. One of the players is a bit like Poison Ivy. His powers are derived from plant chemicals or chemicals related to plants. One of his chemicals is basically Miracle Grow, but it works really fast. So he sprays the ground underneath his victim and vines come up and Entangle him. In this case he got Lodestone pretty good. So, here's where it gets interesting. Can Lodestone use his magnetic wave to hurt the vines? There's not really any metal in them (OK, maybe a little bit but not much). And if he can't hurt the vines, he should be able to use the blast normally to hurt the players without the entangle first taking the damage? But then, why do magnetic waves hurt the players in the first place? At the time, I let his waves pass through the vines to do full damage to the players. It didn't change the outcome, the players still won the fight. However, how would you rule in this situation, and why?
  25. Re: City of Heroes - Online Hero Game Account cancelled. At least for a while. I think it's fun in spurts, but it gets tiresome.
