  1. Re: Your "2006" Pet Gaming Projects Latest Update! I've decided to move my workspace from my desktop to a Yahoo Group so that I can access the information at home and at work (for those lengthy downtimes, like now). I have made it a member only group to keep out spammers and such, but if anyone would like to join, be it just to look, help out, or for no reason at all, here is the link. http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/AarklashHERO/
  2. Re: Suggested Point Caps I am basing my Fantasy HERO game on a 100 pts Base +50 DisAds, with an Active Limit of 60. I plan on raising that possbily by 1 AP per 10 XP.
  3. Re: Your "2006" Pet Gaming Projects I currently run a 350 pt Champions/Dark Champions game titled Dawn of Fate. It's sorta like the X-Men Movies and such, but with a bit more fearful of the 'empowered' people and everyone who's empowered gained them after an unconscious situation (be it sleeping, knocked out, anesthetic for surgery, etc.). The truth behind it all is known only to me. (Side Note: I run this as both a HERO game for my IRL group and as a Heroes Unlimited game for a PBP group.) My current project I am working on is an alternate Fantasy HERO setting. It is basically Magna Carta: Tears of Blood/Crimson Stigmata, but I am also going to incorporate more ideas of my own to give more depth and richness. In the end, it will probably have some 'source or references' to things from Exalted to Confrontation/Rag'narok. In a way, I could call it 'Everything I've ever seen and thought Cool' setting.
  4. Re: My first post... Glad I missed this initiation. Welcome to Heroboards. It could be worse. *points at other RPG forums*
  5. Re: Question on Elemental Controls Well, the Invisible Run idea was something I was coming up with to see if he'd like it. Essentially, being a Speedster, he wants to see some DCV for moving so fast, and since to get that fast, it's over the AP limit or Non-Com Movement, I was looking at an Invisibility while in Motion. As I got it worked out, here are his powers: Super Speed ('Flying Run'), Speed Shield (Force Field), Blinding Speed (+DCV with Invisible, only while in Motion), and Rapid Healing (he wanted this), Moving Attack (USPD), and Rapid Punch (USPD). Now, Rapid Punch is basically a HA power, does not link in Velocity. Moving Attack is basically a Hex attacking Move-Through/By, without the Velocity Damage or the +/- to O/DCV. May look a little wierd, but all the attacks do not get the Velocity Damage, unless he wants to do an actual Move Through/By, which he's a little against because of the self injury possible.
  6. Re: Who would you recreate? http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/BAON_RPG There is the link to the game. It's done in Heroes Unlimited by Palladium Books though. But I also think that the call for players is over. There are 10-12 already into it. But if you want to lurk and read the action, join on up. If you tell the ApocalypseZero sent you, you'll get a discount. (Always wanted to use that line.)
  7. Re: Who would you recreate? I think his Batman is the pic and if you look closely, Guido might be the little worm like thing on his back. Also, Capt. America, Mr. Fantastic, Scarecrow, Skyhawk, Black Panther, Dr. Doom, Nightwing, and Punisher have also been 'claimed'. Of course, if the GM or a Player has it is yet to be determined.
  8. Re: Who would you recreate? I am playing in a game doing this such idea right now. (Using Heroes Unlimited though, don't bash!) I am playing a reincarnation of Apocalypse. Good guy first off, still Immortal, and born around 2200 bc in Egypt, but instead was birthed by Magic (Energy of the Universe) to bring balance to the mystical scales. So, I started taking real life fictional and non-fiction stories and putting my own twists to them. Like the Plagues of Egypt was Apocalypse's action for punishing the Pharoahs for using their magics profanely. (Death sacrifices, soul stealing, negative type things) Then moved on to China 200 AD, where he killed Zhang Jiao for his sorcerous usurping of the Han Dynasty. Then to Rome, where he could not locate a source of 'corruption' but could feel it all around (the rise of religion basically). Then to Japan, where Nobunaga Oda, or the Demon, attempted to carve an empire out with blood and sword. Apocalypse "died" to Oda before himself killed by Mitsuhide Akechi. Healed up and 30 years later, Apocalypse lives life with a woman from Kyoto before leaving out for France. Found a Bishop who's dabbling in the arcane but was killed and imprisoned inside an iron sarcophogus (Napoleonic era) then traded to the Russians later (1800). Breaks out of Russia in 1910, then travels across northern lands until he reaches England. Later, takes up a crusade against the Nazi SS Commanders performing 'strange' experiements. Tracks down one Commander at the same place in France where he was entombed. Crater in ground with magic burns but secret SS lab in the crater. Kills Commander. WWII ends shortly after. Goes to America in 70's until 2000's for where the game picks up. More detail, but no room to write. My Apocalypse is also a Wizard. The others in the group are Cyclops, Pheonix, Galaticus, Silver Surfer, Capt. Comet (csyphrett on here), Havok, The Flash, WarMachine, Annihilus, I can't think of the rest. One rule, no conversions of original characters, just a new take on an old name.
  9. Re: To Multiform or not to Multiform.... I did at least make him pay 200 pts Disads for the 400 pts Multiform. But I still kind of feel that the Multiform is not done in the faith that it should be. Hell, I will probably take it away from him since he wanted a 'Change Word' for it (I gave him Incantations for the power), and I told him I wanted to hear a graphic description for his first transformation. He says his words with little emphasis, and then directs people to the picture for his appearance. Needless to say, he's losing XP.
  10. Re: To Multiform or not to Multiform.... I think you may have hit my problem Bloodstone. I feel like he is cheating by having a 350 pt character with everyone, yet also being able to go 400 pts with ease. Hmm....maybe whack 50 pts from his True Form (300 pts), keep his Multiform at 400 pts, and just re-work the powers/idea with him. I think the major problem for him comes with his Point Allocation. His True Form characteristics are quite good. 45 STR, 24 DEX, 6 SPD, etc. But in his Multiform, his STR is still 45 (which I feel should be stronger), his SPD is only 3 (which seems to me a poor use of points), and overall I think he doesn't like the character (which he built, btw). When it comes down to it, I think he'd be much happier starting over and coming up with something fresh. But, I still wanted to see if my choice for Multiform was valid. I began to wonder if Colossus, Thing, Hulk, etc were Multiforms (going from Normal to Powered), but maybe Multiform is not the answer, but a good option. Thanks all.
  11. Re: To Multiform or not to Multiform.... Well, I'll do my best to explain this mess. First off, as it is built now, he is a 350 pts Character who can Multiform into a 400 pt Fire Form Demon. The True Form is an ex-cop who has ShapeShift, a Force Field, Leg Enhancements, and a gun (besides the Multiform). His Multiform is a pale comparision to his True Form on Characteristics, but is completely built on Fire, with Fire Immunity, Fire Shield, Flame Aura, and a MP with a full charged Fire Blast and a full charged Fire Ball. Doesn't really have any significant 'change' in his fire form except appearance (addition of horns, talon like hands, etc.) but there is no 'powers' associated with this (just for show). But, my question isn't 'how to make the Human Torch', but more of 'Should Multiform be used for Metamorphosis/Tranformation like powers, such as into a Fiery Demon?' It seems almost as if the Multiform is being used just to get 400 pts, when this should be done in the True Form. [ADDENDUM] I should completely thrash the player for making me even think of this. You can find a snippet of his behavoir in the 'General Roleplaying' thread 'How you handle certain players'.
  12. That is my question. I have a player that sort of wants to do a 'Human Torch' kind of transformation (with a little change physically). Originally, I did this as a Multiform, but now I am not so sure that it should be this way. So, should Multiform be used for a Power Transformation, or should powers and SFX rule? Of course, it doesn't help that you can get 400 pts from Multiform also (80 AP limit).
  13. Re: Question on Elemental Controls Either way, somewhere the cost has to be covered. And since I don't have HD (and after a minute of trying to figure out what HD was, HeroDesigner) I think the best way is just keep thinking 'Pay Points' whenever I hit something.
  14. Re: Has Anyone Done...... I really did like the way Ninja Scroll (first/movie) portrayed the powers of everyone. Even though Jubei seemed to only be an expert swordsman, there were Snake Tattoos (Images that Damage), the Blind Swordsman, even the Electric attacks with the string. That sort of 'mysticism' is what I am looking for in my vision of Fantasy. In a way, I can see this all being done simply by just upping the points of characters for a standard game. My problem is questioning how one gets the powers. That is were I am stumbling on.
  15. Re: Has Anyone Done...... I seen that thread Enforcer just today. I thought the idea of the 'Champions' being converted to Fantasy HERO was sort of along the same lines I was thinking. The more I think of SuperHeroic Fantasy, I do tend to feel like the only 'explainations' for powers are either Magic Weapons, Magic Empowering (gifts/boons granted), or by simply Magic Spell. It all seems to fall back on itself a little. Of course, the more I watch my collection of Chinese movies and all my wife's InuYasha, I think that showcasing the powers are 'Martial Arts' is another option. I just really don't want someone thinking they need to have a Knight that wears spandex. Although, my ideas also have me thinking either 150-200 pts character builds (need some testing though). I've also thought about and gathered a bunch of information on the Confrontation/Ragnarok setting of Rackham Miniatures for this idea.
  16. Re: Question on Elemental Controls I did leave that other 'option' out of my questioning, but maybe it didn't hit me until after I posted. I was thinking the golden rule 'When in doubt, go with the more expensive' which would be the 1/2 of the Lowest Active Cost. What does surprise me (and positively I might add) is the EC Cost is before Limitations. Now I got to do a little math and see if all will go well. Another save by the Serpent and the Squirrel.
  17. Sorry if this is answered somewhere already, did some looking, but nothing. Okay, I was looking over the EC builds last night and came up with one potentially serious question and no answer. Is it possible to have a power in an EC that has a lower Active Point Cost or Real Point Cost than the Base Cost? Example: Speed Power EC-40 Pts Base Run: 80 Active Points, 45 Real Points Running Attack: 50 Active Points, 25 Real Points Invisible Run: 30 Active Points, 20 Real Points Using the above 3 powers, if I wanted to make the Base EC cost 40 points, could I and what would be the cost for the Invisible Run power then? As I read it, if I a 40 Base, then the Run is 40 points, the Attack is 10 points, and the Invisible Run would be 0 points? Thanks for the help.
  18. a Modern Fantasy or a SuperHero Fantasy game at all? I know, most of you might be scratching your heads at what I am meaning, so I'll explain. Modern Fantasy, or more like Shadowrun, in a way. Something set at least to current technology levels or beyond (into Star Hero levels) but also incorporated the aspects of Fantasy, like Wizards, Dragons, Elves, Orcs, Magic, etc. Fantasy Hero meets Star Hero. SuperHero Fantasy is something I'm not sure of even being the correct title for what I am thinking, but comes off as the easiest to understand. Inspired by such things as InuYasha, Exalted RPG, and such, the game would be all the makings of a classic Fantasy setting, but then ramped up with SuperHero styled powers. Maybe not so direct with the hero goodness (no SuperKnight or BatSquire, etc.) but something more like Mystical Training, Godly/Supernatural Blessings, etc. I guess this is more of an outlook as 'Exalted but not White Wolf'. I really liked the idea of the game, but the system threw me. Well, I'd like to hear from anyone who may have done such a thing. I don't really want HERO Exalted or HERO Shadowrun, but more naturally built games that have this 'genre' feel to them.
  19. Re: Advantagous sfx The way I see SFX are purely for visual references. Now, if you take your Powers/SFX to, for this example 'Escape Grab', then I'd say that it would need to be either a Power Trick Roll or the need for an actual Power. In my way of thinking, there could always be an Everyman like skill for Power Tricks to let players pull off that one thing, but multiple uses for the same effect would result in a power being bought. Maybe even forcing the player to put all his points into such a power until it is fully paid for.

Re: Help with a Japanese name lady-obasan, redi-, okugata Lady-reifujin lady-touji, redi, shukujo, kijo, kifujin hell-makai, jigoku, heru, naraku flower-kusabana, hana, hana http://www.freedict.com/onldict/jap.html Use the site. I tend to look up words for a Codename, then take those words and seach on them for English Names, or use the Japanese words to form a Name.
  21. Re: Star Wars - Balancing Jedi with everyone else and heroic vs. superheroic ***I hate to ruin the game, so if no one here has played/beaten Knights of the Old Republic 2, please skip this post.*** This is part of the driving behind the game. KotOR II specifically touches on the nature of the force and if it is not alive and of it's own plats and plans. The Force is described and portrayed as the link in life, that connects every living thing, but your character in KotOR II had been seperated from the Force, and to be able to know the Force and live without it is seen as a truely dangerous thing. Of course, we all could be overlooking the whole thing and just not seeing it as a plot device that became a theory, then a cult following, and now a legend.
  22. Re: Star Wars - Balancing Jedi with everyone else and heroic vs. superheroic And hence, where I seem to have the problem with Light/Dark side in a game. Because the basis of the Light side is almost against what most (all) RPG's seem to provide for players. Face it, the game had roots in 'Slaying the Dragon', something against the Jedi nature. So, in the beginning, the setting will most likely be flawed or need to be flexible for a dark/neutral feel. I also want to point out that I made a post that finally got placed and should be on Page 4 about HERO System rules and Star Wars Entities being converted into it. For those looking to this for that, please check it out and comment.
  23. Re: Star Wars - Balancing Jedi with everyone else and heroic vs. superheroic I understand the reasoning behind wanting to try to play the 'Who will win?' scenerio for this little topic, but one thing I've learned is that nothing ever goes how you'd think it. Who's to say that the Jedi missed his blaster reflection and is thus, caught by the resulting shot? In the same terms, a commando could 'pull grenade, throw pin'. What I am saying is that unless the situation is presented, talk is nothing. Now, that being said, there are several instances where Jedi are mowed down by blaster fire. Some of them are illogical (Revenge of the Sith's 'Order 66' scenes), some of them seem possible (Attack of the Clones's 'Arena' scene, which saw many Jedi, including Masters, gunned down), and then beyond the movies. The problem the movies have (as with all movies) is that the Main Character (who are Jedi in Star Wars films) are potentially invulnerable. Do I need to quote Kenobi's words about Stormtrooper training and point out their lack of when shooting at Han, all in the same film? (A New Hope) This is where people need to let go of the movies and see what's really going on. Jedi are just like everyone else. The Force does not make them automatic winners in combat. That being said, they are not 'One Trick Ponies' (as someone above said). In fact, Jedi laws strictly say that the Saber and Force are to only be used once all other avenues are exhausted. Even against Dark Jedi/Sith, a Jedi is suppose to try to understand and convince, not attack and destroy. So many see Jedi as Soldiers, when they are Diplomats with training. I think the best comparison for Jedi are Martial Artist today. Taught never to use their skills to harm, but in self defense. As for a game, I think that the player Jedi Knights should be at least on par with Soldiers/Fighters of non-Jedi, at least in terms of Melee Combat. As for Alien Jedi, there are many. In the movies, only Mace Windu was human on the Master Council. And for Wookie Jedi, I only know of Lowbacca (sp?) in the New Jedi Era. Wookie rage is one of the keys to making a Wookie Jedi, because one would have to have complete control over it. If you would like more information, I like the Star Wars Database. I don't have a link, but put that in a search engine and you should be fine. The site even breaks things down from Movies to Expanded Universe.
