  1. Just hope you never need to use an iPhone. That's about a 1000 point power
  2. Tracking. I should have thought of that one. He's from the northwest. He's a multiform that turns into a totem pole and totem poles were pretty much a northern tribe thing. But your ideas work just the same. Thanks guys.
  3. So my Native American hero bought a contact with "very useful skills" (or extremely useful, I forget the terminology). I have the contact listed as an Ancestor Spirit but I haven't detailed anything else. Now I'm having trouble coming up with skills an ancient Native American would have that would be "very useful" to my character. Survival sure. Ideas would be appreciated. Instead of ancient I might have to make it a more modern. A grandfather maybe
  4. Permission? So it's a current IP (maybe). Let the speculation begin. Or I guess that could mean permission from Cryptic.
  5. Dystopian. Something like the Steelheart novel. Realistically, if humans started getting super powers we'd be 99% villians. Being a good guy should be hard. Outnumbered. Most material I see tries to recreate the classic comic book feel. Nothing wrong with that but I'm not much of a comic book guy. I'd like to see something else.
  6. I'd love to see some of your power ideas for Fandom Menace. (So I can steal them for a hero. He sounds fun)
  7. Reading through the first chapter. 2004: "Dick Cheney easily wins the presidential election." I don't usually go for the horror genre but I've already pledged so meh...
  8. Backed at the $45 level to get a hard copy before I read these details on pre-ordering a HERO version. I'll leave it there until the project funds but then I may reduce to the $15 level and buy the HERO version when it's available. Looks like a great setting!
  9. Just found out about this Extreme Earth kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jaerdaph/extreme-earth-a-dystopian-superhero-campaign-setti?ref=banner A setting book with rule adaptions for 7(?) different systems. HERO is not listed but they announced on RPGnet that Steve Long will do a HERO conversion.
  10. Thanks guys. My GM also suggested I just make it a power and wouldn't need the Summon but I was concerned the sword would only be manifested during the segment in which I used the power and I would not be able to use it as a weapon element with martial maneuvers . (The idea is modeled after the Shardblades from The Stormlight Archive books.)
  11. I was making a hero that can summon a specific sword when I realized there didn't seem to be any mechanic that allowed him to send the sword back. I want to summon it, use it for a combat, then "send it back" to wherever it came from. I also ran into this problem with a hero that could summon a bicycle. It seems like an obvious thing to do so I'm probably just overlooking something.
  12. Wow, that's very helpful. Not only does it include abilities I wouldn't have thought up but it's extremely helpful in showing me Limitations I wouldn't have thought of. Thank you for taking the time.
  13. So mostly you need some pseudo-realistic physics for a plane with a man sized hole in it. The only real concern is the initial explosive decompression. The modifier "explosive" is used because its a lot of decompression happening very quickly, not because it's particularly violent. Anyone sitting next to the hole and not wearing a seat belt would be sucked out. It's about a half ton of pressure assuming you're over 30,000 feet, however, that only last for a couple seconds. After that the pressure stabalizes rather quickly, about 90 seconds in a commercial jet. So after the first few seconds you're relatively safe as long as you're not sticking your head out the hole. The other thing that might come up is after the plane is disabled, assuming the wings are attached, you can glide about 15 feet for every foot that you drop. So they could have some decent landing options even with no power. Just curious, does your plot assume the villains get away with one or more items or is it completely up in the air (pun intended!) based on the heroes response?
  14. When pressurized blowing a hole in the fuselage is just as easy as the door. The door is not a weak spot at that point. So the villains could surprise the heroes by not coming through the door. Maybe even cling to the plane, cut a hole in the bottom and come through the baggage compartment to totally surprise them. The pilots will know as soon as you puncture through, they may even be able to tell while their clinging depending on how many villains there are. If the pilots don't know heroes are on the plane they probably wouldn't even announce it though. Sounds like a fun scene. Are there passengers on the plane? Heroes could be kept busy trying to save them.
  15. I can't tell if this is just your signature or if you're actually asking me about this characters story. LoL So briefly, he's a young Native American man who grew up on a reservation in the Pacific Northwest. His father was very much a traditionalist and enjoyed practicing the ancient ceremonies of their tribe. The Hero (no name yet) went to public school, most of his friends being non-Native Americans he just wanted to fit in (like most teens) so he rejected his heritage and was frequently embarrassed by it. On to college where he was happy to grow further and further away from his heritage and he's looking forward to just being an accountant from the suburbs. Then the powers manifest. While he knows these powers are a blessing part of him feels like it's the tradition forcing its way into his life. So he's conflicted with wanting to be "normal" but knowing he has a responsibility to honor his heritage. I don't know enough about our campaign yet to go further than that. We've got a couple more sessions before our Pathfinder game is over then we'll dig into it.
  16. It is 6th edition and Champions Complete is the only book that I personally own. I probably just missed it but I didn't recall seeing Knockback resistance as an option. Edit: now I see it. Page 73. Thanks
  17. 1) I liked the Nuetron suggestion. Maybe Nuetron Man. 2) Solaris Archon Maybe add "Steward of the Void" or "Steward of the Cosmos" to either name. Or whatever name you decide on.
  18. Thanks for all the tips. The question came up because I was looking for rules that would simulate the strength and mass of what's basically a tree. One of my concepts was that if he suffered any knockback he would revert to his true(human) form. So I was looking for ways to reduce the chance of him suffering knock back and I'm not familiar enough with the rules to know if STR plays any part in that. The character, while in Totem form, is a stationary support hero. Kinda like a turret. Other than some form of natural hardness he would have a few defensive abilities that could cover an AoE, to give protection to teammates. Point defense, deflection, and barriers most likely. An AoE healing burst, a crowd control, a ranged attack, and a point blank knockback (probably telekinetic) to keep melee away from him. I realize this would be an expensive build but I'm hoping the severe limitations of no mobility, requires high clearance (probably 20'), and the ease at which he loses this form (any knockback) would bring the cost down enough to be manageable. My fallback plan is to not use multiform, give him an activated "body of wood" with the appearance of a man sized, mobile, totem pole. Kinda scary now that I think about it.
  19. Yeah, I was planning on going defense heavy. Point defense for projectiles, heavy knockbacks for melee. Once I crunched the numbers I'd probably figure out you were right. Too many points for defense. The being rooted problem was why I was using Multiform. So he could still be capable in the true form. I realize there is little chance of making such a character be tactically sound. Maybe I'll save him for a RP heavy game. Thanks for your input.
  20. Well as a totem pole there will be a number of carved "faces" and each one will be the origin point of a different power. So something like: Eagle Head: "Bird Strike" projects a single target ranged attack. Carving 1: AoE healing burst Carving 2: AoE knock back Carving 3: some AoE cone attack Carving 4: maybe animal summoning Carving 5: some Usable on Other power to buff teammate. Carving 6: Entangle ranged attack I see him as a support character. Healing, buffing, etc His True Form being normal human. In appearance anyway. Staying with the support theme, maybe really smart, some gun skills, maybe computer skills. Anything that stays away from the tomahawk/bow/shaman stereotype.
  21. So I'm making a hero that can turn into (via multiform) a totem pole with each "face" having a different power. While in this form he'll be immobile so I'll sell back his DEX but I'm not sure what to do about STR. He won't be able to make melee attacks or lift anything so I initially was thinking to sell back STR as well but I'm new to the game and wanted to make sure there wasn't some other reason I need STR, like resisting knock back or something. Also, there is the issue of this form being extremely heavy. Would a solid STR score be required just to support the mass of it? I'm not selling back stuff because I want the extra points, I just want to accurately reflect the characteristics.
  22. Ex-ARGENT engineer. Mad that he was fired he's using stolen tech to build these robots and blame his former employer for the havoc they cause. This can put the heroes in race, of sorts, with ARGENT who's also trying to get to the bottom of things but aren't as subtle as the heroes would be. So for a while the heroes should know ARGENT is involved and they should assume they are responsible. Could develop an "enemy of my enemy is my friend" situation or the heroes could end up with both as foes.
  23. In the book Steelheart there are no heroes, only villians, and while most of the world is a wasteland a few major villians have "claimed" a city. In those cities, or at least in Chicago where the book takes place, the major villan lets lesser villians roam free and do whatever they want as long as they don't interfere with the running of the city. (No blowing up the power station)
  24. As someone new to the Hero system I think this book was made for me. Still waiting on the hard copy but I've read the PDF and outline a practice character. I'm very familiar with many other systems so I didn't have any problems grasping the basics. The parts I had to re-read a few times to get it to click was the difference between the various forms of protection. There was Power Defense, Resistance Protection, and Deflection and without playing I had no idea which to take and how much to take. The only area that I'm not 100% comfortable with would be the rules for Multipower Frameworks. I get the general idea, you have powers that you can't use at the same time so you put them I a framework to save costs. The thing is, it felt like I was cheating. Like I was getting too good of a deal. Once I think I've got it right I'll post a Multipower Framework in another thread and ask you guys if I'm doing it right. The only problem with this book is that there isn't enough time in the day to do all the things I want to do with it!
  25. I like Brian Sanderson's Steelheart novel as an alternate earth. In it everyone with powers becomes a villain and maybe I'm selling humanity short but this seems like a realistic plot. Plus it lets you do a post-apocalyptic setting, which is always cool.
