  1. Re: Modern Military Zeppelins

Airships have MANY advantages. Long range (often days, sometimes weeks), stability (in moderate winds), and good lift for payload.

Great for a UAV-like platform for spying.

Bad news - high winds are not good at all, difficult to service/shelter, very easy to shoot down (but at high alt. not likely to happen).

Overall this is a decent idea.

The USA operated blimps for over the horizon radar platforms in the 1960's. Blimps were used to hunt submarines in WW2. So the idea of military use of lighter than air ships is not new.

  2. Re: Some Help for WWII Icons

Okay, using any source you have available to you, what woudl you set as the "Icon" character for all the following countries during WWII:

    USA

    USSR

    Germany

    Italy

    Japan

    UK/Britain

France (possibly in exile or resistance)

And what other national heroes would you add in other than these?

    USSR:

    General Winter

    Japan:

    Divine Wind

    Many others are possible.

  3. Re: Clyde Barrow's Sawn-Off BAR

I think this is mostly going to affect the concealability, which is the point. The STR min wouldn't change much (if anything it might go down 1 or 2 points due to weight reduction).

Range is unlikely to be affected all that much. What you would be losing would be the bonus a rifle would give you vs. range.

Typically the BAR is used for suppressive fire or general autofire uses, much less on the aimed shot front.

Yes, reduce the STR min by 1, it would be a shorter weapon and a little lighter.

Reduce the range bonus. In the military the BAR is used suppressive fire or general autofire uses, but a skilled operator can use it for precise shots. Barrow was considered (by accounts of his actions) a good shot with it. Barrow IMHO had one or two skill levels in BAR.

  4. Re: Champions 6th version

    Another suggestion for you snapt.

I have a Pulp Hero game we are going to convert to 6th very soon. We do the remote game on Skype and maptool (both are free). PM me if you are interested in listening in on a session or two or maybe even guest playing a session or two.

—a new Power, Chucking, for when you need to throw large amounts of worked or unworked wood at your foes. While admittedly somewhat more special effects-specific than the typical HERO System Power, it’s a lot of fun and absolutely crucial for creating certain rodent-based characters.

Critical new skill for Barton, he actually does run rodent based characters!!!

Thanks Steve for the respect to us players who play rat and other rodent based characters.

  6. Re: Champions 6th version

    snapt:

An idea, please go to GenCon or Origins and play a game of 6th Hero (next year so we all have time to get used to it). You might not change your mind, you might just change your mind about it.

BTW: at GenCon quite a few events are still pre-5th edition.

  9. Re: Cold Fusion? Unpossible. Cold Fission? Wait... what?

    From article:

Thorium decays by emitting alpha particles. Pomp and pals say that Cardone and co placed their detector underneath the glass vessel containing the thorium solution. "We note that the range of the emitted particles in glass is in the order of tens of micrometers and that it thus would be impossible for particles . . . to penetrate the vessel."

Translate: the researchers placed the detector under glass and the thickness of the glass would block alpha particles, suggesting they are getting false readings.

Looks like another false cold fusion story.

  10. I have seen the animated movie UP, it was great. I liked the story and main characters were interesting (annoying but in a very charming kind of way).

I will not put in any spoilers, but it has some pulpy elements in it, it is not pulp but captures the explorer element which some pulp stories have, and has some very pulp like items/scenes/locations in it.

I recommend the movie as light, fun, entertainment, and of course kid friendly.

  11. Re: pulp HERO MASKRED CRIMEFIGHTERS

The Wraith in my pulp game is interesting.

Nerve pinch (NND attack) and moves in shadows (teleport if in shadows).

The neat part is background... and a huge disadvantage.. my past is a blur...

great plot hooks. People and bad guys know him, but he does not remember them.

  12. Re: what gives your pulp its pep?

    ACTION, ACTION, ACTION.

As a GM I try to keep the action very high, lots of chases, lots of fights/combat.

But, I like to have some investigation/mystery.

Mine is a air based adventure, so airships and other mad science exists.

  13. Re: PA Hero:How long would plumbing work?

Assuming an event which didn't cause extensive damage to civic infrastructure (some but not huge amounts) about how long could toilets' date=' faucets and another plumbing realistically continue to work without maintenance?[/quote']

Many, many, variables. Some ROMAN era plumbing is still working. In some areas of eastern Germany the sewers are not working in some areas because the population is so low the water flow is not enough to keep them sanitary.

Hard to answer. Modern US plumbing would likely not run long with some expert help, maybe a few years or decade. The biggest problem is that without electric pumps no clean water or sewage treatment is going to happen to many areas in the US. So within days the plumbing is useless due to no water pressure and withing weeks/months the sewers would be useless also (lack of pumping, and lack of clean fouling and breaks not being repaired).

Note I am not a city planner or a plumber. If you know a plumber ask her/him.

  14. Re: Dodging bullets. Really.

Nerve pulses travel at over 300mph, and if stimulated via external electrical units you can cause voluntary muscles to move in fractions of second (reflex arcs are a example of this). Could move your body in a direction to reduce or even prevent damage. Possible.

But, the system would cause muscle, tendon, ligament, and bone damage if the opposite muscles do not relax in time for the other muscles to contract. You could in theory solve this problem.

Must agree with other posters body armor cheaper, more effective, less painful than this.

I did graduate work in neuroscience, so this is up my alley.
