  1. Re: Teen Champions plots

Class field trip with Teachers, it was suppose to be a training trip, but

    1) natural (or unnatural) disaster

    2) local bank or army base is broken into and heroes asked to help

    3) stumble onto a super villain base by accident

    4) visit a retired superhero (kids think boring lecture) but that day his/her hunted(s) come back for REVENGE! Great roleplaying the old supers talking to the youngsters.

    5) many more ideas.....

Real World> This is not good news, the reactor components could be the dirty part of a dirty bomb...

RPG World> The players have to go to one of these nicely radioactive sites and retrieve something, watch out for radiation posioning anyone..

did we mention local Russian criminal gang would be watching the site since it is in its territory...

  3. Re: What would happen if Los Angeles County vanished?

UCLA is gone. This is going to have a very profound effect on scientific and technological research world wide.

You are over estimating UCLA or for that matter the disappearance of any one university would have little long term impact on science and tech.

BUT, the disappearance of certain scientists may change the course of history..........

excuse me barton but was the silver avenger in the vibora bay sourcebook ' date='barton stanonamed in your honor or was it a coincedence?[/quote']

I donated (see the Hero Game store for the item) the Comic Book Legal Defense fund. Darren Watts will add your name, or company name into his upcoming books.

It is a hoot and it the $ go to good cause.

  5. Re: Enemies for Teen Champions game

I have used (with success) for my convention games, demons/summoned baddies. The summoner has great magic but only can do summonings. Then the baddies do the dirty work. Make the baddies with a weakness(es) so once the players find the right attack they go down quickly.

Build the summoned baddies on 350pts and allow a few in play, to be extra nasty add more baddies if the players are winning easily and / or make a big 450pt super bad summoned monster/demon. Then give the magic user a escape spell or two (invisibility, teleport).

Goals of the bad guy could be to steal a relic at a local museum or church (investigative plot hook). Also you can have the defeated bad guy use the classic line "I would have gotten away with it if it was not for those meddling kids".

I have found for a balanced team (hard to get I know) that the above works.

  6. Re: The Atlantean Age

Barton's - Two paragraph review (patent pending)

I liked the book. Chapters out thought out had a lot detail. It seemed to me to be a world that could be played from day one by a GM with out much work (assuming you liked the ideas, I did). I liked the detailed descriptions of the lands and relation ships of the realms. The character creation ideas I thought were well thought out.

I am not an artist so I will not comment about the art. The book was a little short IMHO, but I am a person who thought PulpHero needed more pages (eek!) and 5er is too short (double eek!). FYI: I am using the book as background in my PulpHero game for the legend/artifiacts of this peroid appear in my game.

  7. Re: Rest in Peace Ricardo Montalban

I want to point out he stared in MANY films, including many non-action films. A classy on and off stage according to what I have read.

I liked some of his later roles including the voice of Senior Senior Senior in the Kim Possible cartoon series. His voice was perfect for the role.

  8. Just saw the movie "The Spirit" today.

    1) I will not spill any of the plot.

    2) I have NOT read any of the comic book series.

    3) Loved the movie.

    4) It is more "noir" in feel. But "pulpy" in backgrounds, automobiles, fashions.

    5) Great graphics and visuals.

    6) IMHO a good version of a masked crime fighters.

    7) Suggest Pulp GM's or pulp players see the movie for ideas.

  9. Re: Lucha Libre Hero Plot Threads

My favorite is this (I ran this at a convention last year, it was hit):

Teen Champions group has a mentor whose back story could include a relationship with the Mexican Wrestlers. The teenagers visit Mexico City and are given a training session in wrestling. This as very funny as the one of the characters did not really want to wrestle (against her personality) and she did everything possible to avoid it; very funny role playing. Then later at dinner they are to tag along with with the wrestlers to help fight werewolves in a small poor village. Then they could beat up on the werewolves. Good action and allowed for good roleplaying.

I played the wrestlers as involved in a secret war vs. evil in Mexico and the TV wrestling is "day job"/cover story. The Church is involved in the fight also, so a hint at evil vs good; and a hidden war made it interesting to me and my players.

  10. Re: Slow Space Elevator

The carbon nanotubes that everyone talks about for this project do not yet exist. They MAY soon, they may not.

Until super-super strong and super-super light nanotubes exist the space elevator is sci-fi.

  11. Re: Civilians Miniatures?

Out of print but Steve Jackson Games did CardBoard Minitures Modern

At the last GENCON picked up 2 for $6!!!!

Paper mini's, but hundreds of them. Includes civilians, police, firemen, and soldiers. Also includes some superheroes including some from the early editions of Champions (early versions of FoxBat!!!).

Maybe check Steve Jackson Warehouse 23 they may still have some???

  12. Re: Solar HERO: R.I.P. Phoenix

I'd be very surprised if Phoenix awakened from the ashes come spring. Even if the panels survive intact' date=' the rest of the probe will have been suffering through extremely cold temperatures without the benefit of heaters. From what I can gather, they are expecting CO2 Ice to destroy the electronics onboard.[/quote']

It is still possible that the probe will survive. If the circuits are sealed from the environment they should survive. Dry Ice (frozen CO2) is "warm" in comparison to outer space. Even if dry ice forms on the circuit boards it depends if any connections are broken (due to freeze/thaw cycling). Likely you will see failures in circuits when this happens, but with surface mount technology now used it still has a chance (likely a small chance) . It will also depend on how the circuit boards are reheated, if slowly maybe the connections will not break...
