  1. Weird thing: but until just now when I looked back. I would have sworn in court that I read "TUS" in your post.
  2. I like the Universal Skill options from The Ultimate Skill as well. They work very well for highly cinematic games and certain concepts (like long lived beings).
  3. I like the skill list. Personally I like developed skill lists over all. I find they help me shape and create a character specifically how I want them. The broad based skill systems always run into some problems for me. One, they feel a little bland and there's the problem of everyone being on the same page. like if the Player's idea of what "Ace Attorney" means compared to mine or someone else's. And sometimes I want to make character that are more individualized. My PI might be great at tracking leads and shadowing but lousy questioning subjects or examining forensic clues. That sort of thing. It its a good option to have. I'm getting the sense I should just walk away. Nothing I (and several of the people in our circle) like about the system seems to be very well liked anymore and often called to be cut out all together. And there doesn't appear to be enough people that enjoy what we like to support a system and maybe its what driving people away. Edit: I apologize if that got whiny and hope you'll excuse the venting.
  4. How about Christopher gets the props but Steelcold can post the next picture?
  5. I don't know if I qualify as one of the old guard but I wouldn't have problem with setting books with tight definition. I thought there already where. There's plenty of themed Lego sets even pre built Lego art. I'd like to keep the big bucket available too.
  6. There are plenty of "simpler" systems in the market that aren't flying off the shelves either and complex systems that sell quite well (as measured in current terms). As was mentioned before the 800 pd gorilla in the gaming arena isn't "rules lite" by any stretch. Personally I don't think skinning Hero, stuffing a :"rules light" system into the pelt and trying to sell it is as Hero System, going to be a formula for success. "rules lite" isn't a license to print money. There has to be some draw, some reason new people join up possibly abandoning their previous rules. If you want "rules lite" systems there are plenty out there that are well established, supported and solid for just about any genre you might want including generic. Making Hero a Fate-alike, for instance isn't going to make it successful unless there's something it does notably than Fate. For that matter, some don't consider Fate rules lite. Rules Light is subjective anyway, practically to the point of "I know it when I see it". For it means systems like Wu Shu, for others its essentially code for highly narrative driven rules or so called "Story games". I simply don't think there's any way to change Hero System enough to appeal to the bulk of say, TRO that would leave it recognizable in anything but name. And it still might bomb because there are other options still and frankly, because the Hero System name carries such baggage. And then you may have alienated some of your older fans (both old guard and any new that was drawn to the game and they do exist). And its hard to un ring the bell. I do think HS could be repackaged and presented in new ways while keeping the spirit and essence the drew many of us too it. One that has turned me and a few friends a little off from the Hero Community in the last few years is a seeming pull away from flexibility and options and turn towards One True Way and making sure everyone else playing uses or that heretical preferences aren't officially mentioned. Its probably just a perception but its there.
  7. Maybe someone should start a NGD thread about this stuff or a few since there's a few topics being hashed out here.
  8. Broad skills are arguably more "high cinematic" in tone, more focused skills "grittier" (I don't like to use realistic too much in discussing rpgs),IMO. Both approaches have their place and different groups will appreciate different approaches maybe even changing from game to game.
  9. I mean a rpg based the comic books series "Invincible" by Richard Kirkman of The Walking Dead fame. Should have been a little bit clearer about that.
  10. One of things I like about Hero System is that you can do this. I think something like it was even suggested in the Ultimate Skill. But you want to focus in on specifics and details you can do that too.
  11. I know how you feel. I'd love to see an Invincible rpg powered by Hero System/Champions.
  12. I'm working on it! But I know of at least one bisexual Native American Vampire Princess in Urban fantasy/horror to tide you over. Edit: Does Tara from HBO's True Blood series count? She's not a literal princess but she hits the other requirements.
  13. Aquarius is a group 60s hippie themed characters, nominally villains due to their focus on fighting "The Man" but not extremely violent or combative preferring to use stealth and guile and fighting defensively and fleeing if confronted. I need a few more members to round out the team. I have Phoenix Bright: A mutant pyrokinetic that was one nearly consumed by her rage at what happened to her family that her emotion driven powers were nearly out of control. She has gained spiritual balance and a level of inner peace though meditation with the aid of Flower Child and channeling her aggression into martial arts training by Brother Peace. Brother Peace: Once a soldier for hire, he's turned away from his violent path. He is naturally (possible a mutant) fast and very strong and an experienced HTH combatant skilled in a few styles. He is the oldest and most pragmatic of the group and the unofficial leader in tactical situations though he leaves the head role to Flower Child. He is Mercy's older brother and psychically bonded with her after she resurrected him after a rival assassinated him. Mercy: A Wyldstryker healer of incredible power, able to control and override physiological functions and heal across a wide area. She mainly acts as support, aiding and healing her team members as she is loathe to use her power for harm though (and maybe because) she could potentially kill with a thought. She once raised her brother from the dead but effort almost killed her. Abandoned and bereft of memories after the Wyldstrike Mercy found accept among Flower Child's commune and loves them as family though sometimes their actions trouble her. Flower Child: An empathic mentalist who's powers are focused through her music, dancing and singing. She can manipulate emotions, create potent illusions, tranquilize and hypnotize crowds of people and induce different bliss and euphoria effects ranging from a narcotic like "high" to orgasmic, even control a target's actions..Flower Child can read people's deepest emotional needs, fears and aspirations and is a skilled orator. Her powers also seem to effect things they shouldn't be able to like animals, plants even inanimate objects so seem to include some degree of reality manipulation and may actually be magical in nature. She is very passionate about her beliefs and her cause and truly wants to bring about a better world though she stops well short of "by any means necessary" she's not overly conerned about many of the rules put in place by "the man" to to keep its power and harsh everyone's mellow.
  14. The Mods are really turning that place into a Paranoia LARP.
  15. Lunars might be the toughest adaptation. Being able to jack your characteristics (particularly Strength, Dex and Int) sky high is going to function so much differently between Hero and ST systems. It won't be such a big deal if we end up with only Solar (or other attribute driven) PCs. Otherwise characteristic boosting ala Lunar charms might have to go by the wayside in translation or be represented differently to maintain more balance.
  16. Has anyone done or seen any work on converting the material for Onyx Path's Exalted setting to Hero System? A point by point, power by power conversion doesn't seem feasible or much fun really but getting the feel of the character types and abilities seems quite possible.
  17. This might be the healthiest way to look at it. Until one of us gets the rights or the support there's nothing we can do anyway. And people have been throwing dirt on Hero System/Champions casket since the late 80s and its still around. 3rd parties are willing to put out products for it. Its not a powerhouse but few games are anymore.
  18. You and your friends are more manly than I'll ever be.
  19. No Triple XXX brand booze? But it seems so strong in the all cartoons...
