  1. Yeah, put that on the TV. 28-10 (!!!!) right now; Bama player thought he saw the ball hit a teammate on a punt return. He tried to grab it, and in classic greased-pig fashion, it slipped right through. Tenn recovers, briskly punches it in. Saban's going "WHAT ARE YOU GUYS DOING!!!!" If this stands up, then Bama *has* to beat Ole Miss; losing to them would be a 2nd loss, and mean they've got no real shot in their division. If they win, and win out, they make it to the SEC title game, against Georgia or Tennessee. They'd have to win that. That'd be the win that would put them back in the top 4. Any other path, and I don't see it. 2 losses, and 2 very unimpressive results, does not make a top 4 team. Particularly since Michigan and Ohio State are making strong cases. Michigan cleaned up the mistakes and rolled #10 Penn State; Ohio State's risen to #1 at a point when that's reasonably meaningful. Georgia and Tennessee are also making strong cases. Clemson and USC would be the other 2 in the mix right now; the question may be the perception of their respective conferences. OK, I'll stop now. It's only mid-October, harping too long on this is like playing Christmas music before Halloween....
  2. Thus speaks the lord of the dark, no less.....
  3. HEY DEADHEAD!!!! WHAT THE HECK!!! is going on with your team? ANTHRACITE uniforms? I even like the color, but it's gotta be in the right design. And perhaps the clock struck midnight on Kansas...? Mostly watching Mich-Penn St. Michigan's smoking them...mostly. But 4th and goal 3 times...3 FGs. A funky, batted pass turned into a pick 6. A beautiful fake led to a 60+ yard run by the QB to set up a TD. Michigan's overwhelming on the stat sheet but up only 16-14 at half.
  4. Would you care to expand this into a position, rather than a sound nybble?
  5. Not quite that many, but we don't have a Senate race. --Governor: some, but not many. This has largely been TV ads, mostly subsidized by the national Governor's PACs --House: a few more, but again, mostly TV ads, heavily subsidized by the national Congressional PACs --State hous: TONS. ALLLL of them, I think, smears against the Democratic incumbent. I actually had to look up the name just now of the Republican...it's been brought up THAT rarely. This might well be a relatively non-competitive race, tho, or at least one the Republicans have little expectation to win.
  6. I missed this...from ESPN, Tuesday: Hockey Canada announced the resignation of chief executive officer Scott Smith on Tuesday amid major leadership changes that include the federation's entire board of directors stepping down. New board's expected before Christmas.
  7. It's still a good idea. Polls still think the Dems will hold onto the Senate. There are races where the extreme Trumpers are not doing well. Locally, in the governor's race, the Republican attack ads have gotten more vicious and more personal...which generally suggests, their boy's losing. And inflation's an obvious, unfortunate issue that's very easy to sell. Fortunately, this extended nightmare will end soon. Let's just hope a far graver one doesn't take its place.
  8. That's precisely the comment made in the Pulse this morning from The Athletic. But Amazon's got a long-term deal for some pretty serious bucks, so I don't see it going away. That said...it's probably not quantifiable, but I think we have to say, games like those damage the NFL brand. This is 3 *horrifically* bad TNFs in a row...counting the Tua injury that became the biggest PR nightmare in quite a while. And it's repeated "body blows" in rapid succession. And let's not forget the 2 horrible roughing calls...one of which was an MNF. More blows. The NFL is having a very bad year so far.
  9. On the Mall. WAY down, almost to Broadway. Bunch of standard taps but I believe a rotation of local ones...which, considering the number and quality of the breweries around that area, means you won't get bored. The Mall's got all kinds of places to eat. One of my "if I win the Power Ball" scenarios would be to get a condo or loft down there...but it's probably just as well I don't, cuz that would probably blow my limited insulin control out of the water. A similar picture would be to do that in Vegas, but while I love the restaurants, the people hanging out on the Strip are...less genteel, shall we say. And while the 16th St Mall is busy...the Strip is a bloody MADHOUSE.
  10. Oh my gosh.... Figured what the hey, watch the tail end. Commanders miss a 48 yard FG that would've made it 8. Happens. Bears get the ball. Commanders rush 3 and drop deep...against a QB whose greatest asset is running. He cuts up, jukes, dodges, open field, down to the 5, with LOTS of time left. What the Bears do BADLY is pass, you don't need to run that kind of defense. Fields can't get the rest of em but there were 2 fairly close calls for Washington. EDIT: 3rd game this season where the winning team scored 12 or less.
  11. I have scrupulously avoided watching...only checked the score twice. Yeah, while one would love to rail and fume "THIS IS THE WORST PERFORMANCE"....you kind of run out of steam if you can only say, ".....since last week...." Oh, I see. Bears borrowed from the Bronco playbook. Throw a pick at 2nd and goal on the 5; fail to score from 1st and goal at the 3. And a special teams muffed punt, giving the ball to Washington at the 6. My gosh. Just how many teams deserve the McKay Treatment? You know the line. “What did you think of your team’s execution, Coach?” The answer: “I’m in favor of it.” The league has to be worried they're putting out this much AWFUL football on the national stage.
  12. Oh my. Did we vote Dan Snyder as the worst owner out there already? If we didn't, should we reconsider? https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/34778123/washington-commanders-owner-dan-snyder-claims-dirt-nfl-owners-roger-goodell It's a long and rather ugly story.
  13. If the GOP takes the House, they'll probably try to impeach Biden, out of spite. Honestly, if they do get the House and Senate, disbanding the Jan. 6th committee will be among the *minor* impacts. If they only get the House, it's just likely to be 2 years of complete gridlock. SNAFU.
  14. You wouldn't care to share the source of this delectableness, would you? (It reminds me of the burgers at 5280 Burger Bar in downtown Denver, but they don't name their burgers that way. But they were wonderful. Think I hit them 3 times during the 2018 GABF.)
  15. Ryan McGee writes ESPN's Bottom 10. He likes to lampoon an underperforming Power 5 team, by putting them at #5. One can likely guess who got that spot this week. Of course, the #1 spot can only go to the last perfect team standing. The first "play-in" game of the year is coming up. #3 Bama vs. #6 Tennessee. Both teams can use a validating win, and this one would put them on a good track for the CFP. If UT can win this one, they can probably lose to Georgia later on. If Bama wins, they've still got both Mississippi teams in their division.
  16. Reading power rankings this week from NFL.com. For the Broncos...dropped from #16 to #23, the lead sentence: It's not too early to panic. DUH.... Hmm...Yankees game, scheduled for tonight, already postponed, rain. Well ok, what's TNF? Washington-Chicago?????? This bodes to be only slightly less ugly than Colts-Broncos...and by power ranking, it's the Toilet Bowl Game of the Year so far. They're 29th and 30th this week. It might get superseded later on; Carolina has Denver, Pittsburgh, and Detroit later on.
  17. Supreme Court's rejection on the documents: That's it. No dissents noted. "Stop wasting our time, clown!!!" EDIT: from a letter to the editor in NYT: I'm jealous that I didn't say it...
  18. I did, in fact see exactly that. But it was with a killing attack, and he rolled a 3 for the KB. In other news, the jury has returned a verdict in the Parkland case: life. 17 counts. No parole.
  19. Only to a point. Jones was an utter idiot. He was claiming that a massively documented event was a hoax. If we take the election steal, in contrast, sure, the facts don't support them, but I don't think they're pushing any specific claims like that any more. They're just keeping the pot stirred with an assertion they don't need to support. With Covid, they're pushing an evaluation...not a fact. And, who's the victim of their statements? The truth is not an entity that has standing in a court of law. Where they'll get burned is with the voting machine issues. The company has standing, they have been damaged. Essentially, while they might have to be somewhat more cautious, by and large they'll be covered by the same legal principles that protects their commentators. Or take the gun lobby. They never deny Sandy Hook, or Pulse, or Mandalay Bay, or any of the countless others. They piously claim "the current laws weren't enforced" or for Marjorie Stoneman Douglas or Sandy Hook, "arm the teachers, this can't happen." They *deflect*.
  20. As a statement, I'm inclined to agree. Economically, it may or may not be, but this is a core, intimately connected sponsor. And I believe they make everything but the jerseys and pants...helmets, pads, sticks, skates. Another aspect of this: scroll down to the end of the story, they've got a full list of the big sponsors who have pulled back, or out. It's at 70% now. And the foolish interim chairman who said the board shouldn't be replaced? She has resigned. I think the only thing left is to arrange a halfway clean transfer of power; most, if not all, of that board is going to be gone. And they know it.
  21. I disagree. You've got criminal charges filed, and the push resulted in injuries. I suspect a maximum fine...that's only $1000 for the charge involved...a suspended sentence and community service. Possibly anger management classes. But that's the legal system. The league can't float this. Guessing the length of the league's suspension is like throwing a dart blindfolded, but I'll toss out 8 games...because it resulted in criminal charges.
  22. A jury has set damages in the Alex Jones defamation case at $1,000,000,000. Yes, I had to write that out. It's immensely satisfying that way. Now, how much the families will get, remains to be seen, but if his buddies try to bail him out? This makes it HARD. And there's gonna be a cottage industry fining his hidden assets.
  23. The story of this postseason: no lead is safe. Phillies jump out 7-1. It's 7-3 in the ninth. Braves get a 3 run blast...but that's it. I think it only courteous to NOT describe what the Astros just did. This, atop the several others from the WC series....
  24. Chicken roulade is chicken meat with a filling, rolled up. Prosciutto and swiss? Duxelles? Chopped dried apricots and cranberries and nuts? Whatever your pleasure. I typically do a duxelles...mushrooms, with bacon and onion, cooked to evaporate much to most of the moisture in the onion and mushrooms, to intensify the flavor. But note that chicken breasts are much too thick to roll.......
