  1. We do that, don't we? But I think we gave OP plenty of options and supporting rationale first.
  2. From a defensive standpoint, if Darkness vs. Clairvoyance is an accepted and universal stopper, then why would you care that individual implementations have special blockers? It's pointless. Do the block you KNOW is gonna work. What you're suggesting may work when it's a straightforward, non-power-based means...like my Faraday cage. Copper mesh embedded in the walls, floor, and ceiling, properly installed, can do that, and it's a known, existing security measure now. (Rooms for handling Top Secret and higher documents are frequently set up this way.) But Clairsentience is closer to Telepathy than sight; it's a classic psionic power. Simple materials generally shouldn't block it; that just doesn't match the way clairsentience is used, as was noted. That's not something that should be ignored; when certain properties are overwhelmingly common for a particular power type, respect them. THE exemplar for N-Ray, and thus Penetrative, is blocked by lead...respecting the source. Penetrative really should be at least a Caution-level modifier. I think the bigger issue with Clairvoyance is simply that the adder costs are a mess...or, if you prefer, the baseline power doesn't include enough. How about baseline Mobile? How about cheaper Telescopic? Some of it is structural...MegaScale is a significant advantage in terms of cost, and Clairvoyance is so *heavily* dependent on its adders that trying to use it is HORRIBLY expensive...especially given that the adders don't improve the base range. It's the "one size fits all" approach to 6E that bites us. And you're not gonna fix that by tossing in a nearly-meaningless "can't be used through" restriction that's a pure plot device; it won't save enough. Plus, it'd lead to a separate problem: it would drop the power's base range. Clairsent has Standard Range...10m per point, applying ONLY to the base power. Not adders, not advantages. (This is a separate issue. SOME things, like extra senses, appear to apply to the base and therefore increase the base range. Mobile and Multiple Perception Point are listed as adders; they don't. The Sense Modifiers...do they apply or not? BIG hassle. In HD, NONE of them do, because of structural limitations in the code. Doesn't help that RAW isn't clear, either.) Oh...here's a factor. Penetrative gives you *a* sense group. That's typically limited value. It's *typically* for Sight. How often does someone buy Penetrative Hearing? The baseline, then, for intrusive sight and hearing ain't cheap. And Penetrative Sight...yeah, fine, we all get that. Penetrative Hearing? Ehhhhh.... Ultrasonic, sure. Good amount of Telescopic, OK. Penetrative....feels odd, to say the least. To be sure, this is potentially stylistic.
  3. I think I've had to grab something occasionally on Thanksgiving, but ya gotta figure the stores are losing money staying open. They may well have done it just out of habit, or fear of pushback...but once the habit got broken these last couple years, yeah, it makes sense to just be closed. Unrelated story just below that? The Powerball jackpot is expected to be around $700M for tomorrow night's drawing, or about $335M if you elect the lump sum.
  4. However, you have to build that Darkness in bizarre ways. A classic fantasy use of scry-blocking...a strategy meeting in a command tent on the eve of battle. YES, the enemy wants to know, YES, if they have scrying they'll use it. Maybe it takes multiple spells...one to locate the command tent, another then to spy on the meeting...but it's obviously hugely useful. So, the meeting will want to block Clairsent...but if they're required to use Darkness, it can't be to sight and hearing without strange mods...or the meeting can't take place. Personal Immunity that's also UBO? YUCKKK!!!!! Not my style at all. I'd buy "Clairsentience only"...but as an ADVANTAGE, because it would mean those in the meeting room are unaffected, and the meeting proceeds normally. Darkness is also pretty darn expensive in its own right. Darkness to Sight Group + Normal Hearing, 8m radius (large meeting tent)...that's 43 points already. No, actually, it would make things worse. If each scrying spell has its own way it can be blocked, then which one do you pick to block it? Magical barriers may be what blocks your Penetrative...but not Duke's, which is Faraday-cage construction. So which one(s) do I plan for in my construction? CAN I even build a "magical barrier" without paying significant points? The restriction on Penetrative is written because the focus is on the player using it...the GM never has to pay for the blocking effect, it's a plot device. For PCs looking at blocking scrying effects...has anyone who's run a game, where the PCs have a base, ever made them pay for it? Have the PCs ever worried about it? My gut feeling is...largely, no. EDIT: Barrier might work better. You can define a 0 PD, 0 ED Barrier that is opaque to normal hearing and normal sight; that's 10 points. The problem is a barrier is bought by length...you can shape it, but if you want an 8m x 8m room, you have to buy 32m of length...all 4 sides. With 3m height, that's 46 points, and it costs END too.
  5. That's why I think more teams need to consider trading their Wilsons, when they need to fuel a rebuild. He's not that old, but he is getting up there, in age and hits taken. While this is a bit of a surprise so far, whether it'll really amount to much (exit in the WC round is OK but not great)...it's likely '24 before the rebuild can get into higher gear. And they'd shown they weren't going anywhere with Wilson. The conditions that make this a good move might not arise that often, but they happen more often than teams actually pulling the trigger when they do. There's a huge fear...fanbase response, QB anxiety, what have you...that trading the QB who's Done It in the past, is disastrous because who knows when you'll find another. Vet QBs with positive traits, but overall mixed success, are GROSSLY overvalued, IMO. "Rodgers will work it out." "Brady's the GOAT, he'll solve it all." "Ryan...oh, Matty Ice. All those game winning drives!!" Yeah...YEARS ago. And when the team around them is competent. There was a stat...IIRC, it was the Bucs' interior 3 linemen are beaten by their pass rushers at the highest rate in the league. Interior pressure is FAST pressure, it's QB looking up just in time to get PULVERISED. It forces shorter routes, faster bail-outs by the QB. And Brady's escapeability is down. IIRC, the assessment of the GB receivers is..."not very good!" Ryan, I believe...that's on Ryan. Holding the ball much too long. Not only is he tied for the lead in sacks, he's also tied for the lead in fumbles, and 2nd in fumbles lost...fortunately, 11 fumbles but only 3 lost. But that's 35 drop-backs leading to significant negative plays, since Ryan's not running much.
  6. Plausible. They had the longest odds to win the title, and their start even drew a comment in the Pulse newsletter this morning....
  7. Denver...tanking? They're the #4 pick to win the title, in the West, according to most sports books. Not even *that* much of a long shot, ranging from +1600 to +1800. Realize: no one's better than +600 right now. It is too early to say a lot, but there are exceptions...the Lakers are the big one. There are no surprises to explain away these losses, they've largely gone exactly to form.
  8. Never tried it. Thought about trying agave syrup, but wow, it's pricey...altho, I don' t recall it being worse than pure maple syrup. Oh, that berry mix is also a great add to steel-cut oats, as the water's reducing.
  9. Because clairsentience can be too much of a puzzle-breaker. The defense is exotic...darkness to clairsentience? And it likely has to be AoE, and taken to 0 END somehow. Even then, that's far more of a fantasy power than a superpower. It's a STOP sign power with good reason. I hear ya; it's a power I'd like to use more, but wow.... One caveat: many, if not most, exotic powers in supers material, would be insanely expensive. It's just the difference with regard to control of the power. The writer's version always has a -4 Limitation: only when I want it to be used.
  10. But Jones never returned to the game. Beat down. One thing to say the Bears win...as 8 1/2 point dogs. That's a big upset, but this was just a clock cleaning.
  11. And the Pats are losing. Come on, we KNOW the reason why you're enjoying it... Besides, the bar for a good night game has been pretty low this year... But it's amusing. And I want the Bears to win. It'd make 8 teams at 3-4. Average-minus...yeah, a fitting grade for the league so far, in my book. EDIT: how can the Bears go from looking SO BAD on offense, to a pretty decent performance tonight? Altho 5 FGs isn't my first choice, they have moved the ball quite respectably. Oh...TNF. Nuff said...
  12. One never expects the league to do fans a favor, but... Promo just ran for this... Broncos vs. Jags in London. It's on ESPN+ ONLY. Thanks, NFL. Exactly where a farce belongs....on an outlet I don't want.
  13. Yeah, man, can never accept those unwrapped goodies.... Are the days of Mac Jones numbered? Wow. Granted, not a good start, but he got yanked in a hurry there. Then Zappe promptly marches to a TD. It doesn't help, as pointed out, that Zappe's story is Brady Redux.
  14. Unfortunately true. A major component of Trump's approach has been, I think, simply stalling the process; it can only help him to draw things out. Particularly with regard to the Congressional hearing; neither side is in session, unsurprisingly, with the election almost here.
  15. I still feel the Rockies got smoked because they had a LONG break that killed their momentum, and the Red Sox just kept on moving. The Rockies had 9 days between CS game 4 and WS game 1. Here, both teams have the same amount of time off...probably longer than anyone other than sponsors find necessary, but it's largely like the all-star break. And it's both teams. The memorable aspect for me? I was at Great American Beer Festival. Game 2 was Thursday night...the first night of GABF. It was HOPPING!!!!!
  16. I try very, very hard to stay away from TV Tropes...it's far too easy to come up for air and realize you've just lost 4 hours..........
  17. Targeting has to be explicitly applied as a Sense Modifier...and it's +10 points for a single sense, or +20 for a sense group. So targeting Clairsentience starts at 30 points before *anything* else, which for, say, Megascale, is getting rather expensive. N-Ray does not exist in 6E. It was dropped. 5E has it as part of the Unusual Sense group, but that group is a total mess of standalone exceptions...a terrible approach to ruie-building. When the sense groups were normalized and made coherent in 6E, either a) everything was folded into its 'natural' sense group (UV, IR, night vision into sight, ultrasonic into hearing), or b) as an Unusual Sense, you have to *buy* Ranged, Sense, etc. The Unusual group comes with nothing built in...but it does mean the sense is basically immune to flash. This also makes sense, as Penetrative can be used for hearing as well. Penetrative also got split into the strong version, and a more basic, Partial Penetrative...so you could see through, say, the walls of a normal house, but not necessarily the reinforced concrete of a high-rise. I like Partial Penetration for a "health sense"...you can see exactly where the problems are. Clairsentience gets EXTREMELY expensive very, very quickly. For a high-end teleporter one time, I went with Penetrative and boatloads of Telescopic on normal sight...DIRT cheap, and it's a targeting sense. +10 to the Range Mod gives 250m with no range mod; +20 gives x1000. So, +30 gives 250 km with no range mods at all. On just normal sight...it's only 16 points. But as a targeting sense, it's usable with teleportation, with no issues. No concern with range mods, or knowing the location. Not limited to places you've been. Little concern with safe arrival points, or teleporting into a situation you'll regret.
  18. I started doing fruit syrups on pancakes and French toast ages ago. Real maple syrup is delicious but pricey. The usual stuff is...bleah!!!!! Mostly corn syrup, one dimensional sugar taste. That's when I started on the fruit syrups. They're still rather sweet tho, and when that became...unwise, I started doing a simple home-made alternative. Frozen berries...my favorite is black/blue/raspberry mix. About 100 grams, bit of stevia, good couple shakes of cinnamon (or Chinese five spice, yum, but be careful, it's pretty strong), zap for a minute, mash to mix everything, zap for another minute, mash again. Pour over the cakes/bread. All of those berries are actually carb-friendly.
  19. Detroit's 1-5, and they've got the flip side: tremendous offense, but by far the worst defense in the league...giving up over 32 a game. NO is at 28 and change. You may well be right, but I think it'll be a close race. That said, it's rather likely to be a top-5 pick. Yeah, it's looking like the Wilson move is going to cripple the team for several years. Has Matty Ice melted? Colts announce a) grade 2 separated shoulder, so out for now, but also b) Sam Ehlinger is elevated to #1 for the rest of the season. Ryan's got yards, but YPA isn't great at < 7, 9 TDs in almost 300 attempts is bad, and 9 INTs is horrible. Passer rating is 19th among QBs with at least 1000 passing yards (my threshold to avoid small sample size issues). For comparison: 6 QBs have thrown 9 TD passes. # of attempts...Tua has the fewest at 150, Trevor Lawrence has the most (other than Ryan) at 246. 9 picks is the most. Ryan's also tied with Joe Burrow for most times sacked at 24...and we've cringed seeing how many hits Burrow's been absorbing. And we can go a bit broader...has time caught up to Brady? Possible. Wilson? Possible, but more complex. Rodgers? Lordy, I hope so. But this is suggesting a potential *serious* upheaval among those perceived to be top QBs.
  20. Oh man, circus peanuts are AWFUL!! Licorice flavor is intense; it's understandably divisive. Banana is rarely overly strong, but it just doesn't work for me. The only thing worse? PEEPS!
  21. As was pointed out, the 4 teams in the 2nd round in the NFC last year are 12-15. Tampa Bay looked awful. Green Bay might be imploding. San Fran...unclear how they'll fare with McCaffrey. Rams got gutted, so this isn't that surprising. So it's gonna be mostly new teams...or teams with even worse history in the clutch, like Minnesota or Dallas.
  22. And even more, I suspect they're facing largely packed-in defenses that don't give them much else. According to this: https://www.nba.com/news/5-takeaways-blazers-lakers-suns-clippers when the Blazers made their comeback, basically it was "let Westbrook shoot." Sounds pretty good to me, since he's 11-38 overall and 1-12 from 3. As a team, the Lakers have 1 player shooting over 30% from 3...and that's a guy who's only take 5, in 30 minutes over 2 games. Their 21% from 3 is 8 full points behind the next worst...Chicago and Minnesota are about even. It is UNDER HALF the percentage of the Cavs and Nuggets. The gap is so big that starting from the Cavs at #1, 44.3%...dropping 8% to 36.3%? That's #16, Phoenix.
  23. Got to think the rumbling in LA is getting louder. Lakers are up 7, at home, under 2 minutes left...and lose. In the last stretch, Beverly misses a 3, a shot gets blocked, James misses a long step-back 3, Westbrook misses a mid-range, while Portland puts up 9 to take the lead. Lakers get a James layup, but Portland scores with only 3 seconds left. Lakers miss a James turnaround...likely rather contested. Lakers are now 0-3. They go 6-33 from 3 again. Westbrook continues to lay bricks...4-15. He went 0-4 in the last 4 1/2 minutes before being yanked with 12 seconds left, and the Lakers down 2. Which may turn out to be lighting the fuse on the whole thing blowing up.
  24. And indeed we do. This was the first time the Yankees seemed to have a pulse, but the Astros came back, and came back. Judge grounds out to the pitcher to end the game, Astros sweep. And the weeping and gnashing of teeth in the Big Apple is absolutely deafening. It will be a fascinating off-season for both NY teams. Meanwhile, the Astros are 7-0...sorry Stro-haters. Of course, the WS STILL doesn't start until Friday. <sigh>
  25. Watching baseball rather than SNF...wow, looking at the 2nd half play by play, glad I skipped it. It's really getting to be a major issue. Why is offense SO BAD on so many teams? 2nd half started with turnover on downs (4 plays) and 9 punts.
