  1. I'd phrase it that they don't give a **** about legitimate uses that also get impacted by their crusade. It doesn't matter; in their tunnel vision, only the fact that it can be used to induce an abortion matters.
  2. I'm just looking at the box score on it, as I was getting GB-NE...yeah, Rodgers losing woulda been sweet...but looking at the box score, I'm seeing bad numbers. Offense...4 straight nothing drives, albeit right after the injury. 3-11 on 3rd down. Defense let the Raiders run 74 plays, 25 first downs, and 7-14 on third down. Power rankings...ESPN had Denver 12, NFL.com had em 14, CBS had em 14. That was ALL based on the defense, the offense has been abysmal...and the defense had a poor game. I personally think the offense is SO bad right now that they're somewhere around the mid 20s; the defense has to be incredible to give them a chance. And given that the Raiders were bottom quarter...yeah, the Broncos are gonna fall hard. And, Old Man, puuuuhhhlllleease....we don't NEED a reason to blame you.
  3. This is a hypothetical naked advantage. Body Shield would be the name for a Resistant Protection that presumably is greater than 5/5, so the idea here is only part of it would be hardened. Also, Body Shield itself would normally be inobvious, and this makes it obvious when it's active. So there's 2 required aspects: 1. Max Base Cost 2. The naked advantages; sometimes there are several. There are 2 optional ones: the other modifiers, which ONLY apply to the naked advantage and not to the underlying power (I personally have a High Scale advantage for movement powers, and may well slap 0 END to that part.) And the Applies To is descriptive only. There are 2 possibilities. #1, you're not setting Max Base Cost. #2, you're only using Add Modifiers, when what you need to add Naked Modifiers to have something to be modified by Add Modifiers. The Naked Mods are those that are applied to the base power; the Add Mods apply to the Naked Mods.
  4. I'm not surprised at all. Arizona was 72nd in the CBS rankings going in; they actually *dropped* 14 slots to 86th. They didn't win by enough, I guess. Out of 131, that's barely escaping the bottom third. Colorado defense gave up almost 500 yards passing, and almost 180 more on the ground. 36 first downs. And Colorado has been a laughingstock all season...an important season where CU was trying to advertise their program. Instead, they got gonged. This was the closest game the Buffs have been in. Rest of the season: Cal is 66th, Oregon State 29th, Arizona State 101st (and it's in Boulder, so this is a plausible win)...then ranked Oregon, USC, Washington, and Utah,
  5. Also, Time Limit is IMO being used improperly, unless there's more going on. Aid has a lingering effect, but the fade rate is 5 points per turn. Therefore, it'll be gone in 4 turns...less than a minute. Time Limit as a Limitation is for powers that have no clear-cut termination point. With Instants, that allows it to be applied to something like an Entangle. Sure, it often won't last, but if the poor sot can't break out, it will.
  6. And yes indeed, Trubisky got yanked at half time. Steelers turn a pick into a touchdown, and Pickett has a 10 play, 80 yard drive for another. Then the Steelers allow 14 points in the 4th and lose. 4th and goal at the 2...shotgun's not terrible when it's Lamar Jackson. ANY other QB, and I'd agree with you. Still, that's assuming you go for the TD, that's the bigger question. Oh, my. We have the first major "No D in NFL" game of the year. Detroit gets a late TD to draw within 3 with a minute left...48-45. Over 1000 yards combined offense, almost 700 passing. EDIT: before the last possession for the Seahawks, after they got the onside kick...7 straight scoring possessions. 6 TDs and a FG. The SHORTEST drive was the FG drive...68 yards. Halfway through the 3rd it was 31-15, then both defenses gave up. Detroit: 4 TDs with 2 successful 2 point conversions; Seattle: FG and 2 TDs.
  7. Pressure has to be increasing on Tomlin to yank Trubisky. Still the first half, but the Steeler offense has been anemic. One OK drive, 10 plays, 42 yards for a FG, but 3, 4, and 3 plays then punt, a pick, and another punt after getting to midfield. They get a roughing penalty, negating another pick, that lets them kick a 59 yarder so it's 10-6 at the half. It's only close because it's the Jets, who are almost equally pathetic. Neither team is on pace to reach 300 yards of offense.
  8. WORSE. The FG was a DOUBLE DOINK. Hit the upright, hit the crossbar, bounced the wrong way. No good.
  9. Yeah, the divorce point's more or less a side show. It might have play if Greene was viewed as pro-family, but I don't think that's the case. Her ridiculous assertions here are dangerous, IMO. There might not be that much violence with a partisan basis, but I do believe there's been some...and if nothing else, it radicalizes. Gah...and we don't even have Trump as a declared candidate, and it's a horrible political year. What does that say about 2024?
  10. Yes. Mr. P is right that players and coaches won't like it, but this is the league's interest: protecting the game as a whole from the massive negativity. I don't think they care. First, that was 3 years ago; how many people remember? And how many people cared? This is the kind of pointlessness that sports talk radio loves the ruminate on endlessly. And the 2 teams don't even play each other in the regular season. What the league cares about is headlines like this: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/albertsamaha/tua-tagovailoa-head-injuries-nfl
  11. For the time being, the sentiment is STRONGLY on the side of safety. Losing 1 game is massively preferable to a repeat of this incident.
  12. Angels avoid arbitration by signing Ohtani for next year (only) for $30M. I'm not sure if this is a good move, or simply likely to perpetuate more ultra-top-heavyness. They are getting Syndergaard and Upton off their books, and that's almost $50M, but this is already eating up half of that savings. Rendon, Trout, and Ohtani combined still exceed $100M. Unless the Angels can somehow get several mid-level free agents that don't cost an arm and a leg, it seems unlikely 2023 will be any different from this season.
  13. Wise and appropriate aren't necessarily the same thing...
  14. This was the independent neurologist, by the story. Not sure who technically pays him, but his services can be dismissed by either the league or the PA. Story said here, it was the PA. One *could* take the cynical position that the doctor is being turned into a sacrificial lamb here, but also...not. The simplest explanation is that the evaluations were BS/improper/incomplete/inadequate. Take your pick, and multiple choices are allowed. That said, that arguably opens the door for a malpractice assertion. If the NFLPA really felt that "several mistakes" were made in the evaluation, it's plausible they'll pursue the matter. It's not certain, because concussion evaluation isn't that cut and dried. But it offers the most straightforward path. The Fins might still share *some* of the blame, but most goes on the evaluations. But that's also why, since it's largely a plausible and clean explanation, it's an easy one to abuse. That said, I think the investigation is going to continue to a) ensure what's in place was followed, and b) if there are steps that are needed to avoid this happening again.
  15. So you're saying the appropriate comment should be "don't eat yellow snow"?
  16. OU is getting gouged on defense. Allowed 2 60+ yard runs, and 2 more 60+ passes. Well over 500 yards. Oh, and that's right now...haven't even reached the midpoint of the 3rd. Unfortunately, their starting QB got nailed with one of the most egregious hits I've seen this year; he was sliding, the defender came running full bore, lowered, and plowed through high. One report was that the QB was knocked unconscious. I'd love to see the conference suspend the kid for an extra game, it was really bad.
  17. Nope. They're allocated zero. They sometimes manage to steal one from a more deserving city/fanbase. Well...ok, sometimes it's not stealing. Chicago manages to toss theirs aside with some regularity.
  18. Seattle is allocated one playoff team per year. Since the Seahawks have no shot, it passed back to the Mariners.
  19. American League teams are almost set. Baltimore needs to win out, and Seattle lose out; the rest are all in. The order of the WC teams is still up in the air. NL, Padres are in good shape, 2 up, but still can't stumble. Losing to the White Sox right now...and yeah, the underdogs have been smacking the WC candidates. Cubs swept Philly. Philly and Brewers are tied. The most interesting series is Mets-Braves. Braves win tonight, so they're dead tied. The season series is 9-8 Mets, with 2 more over the weekend. If either team takes both, it's all but over...they'd be 2 up with 3 to play, AND have the tiebreaker. So they'd be dormie. A split leaves them tied, but with the Mets having the tiebreaker. EDIT: and the Mariners get in on a walk-off, 2 out, solo HR by a pinch hitter. How cool is that for the batter?
  20. I'd expect the Gators to get better ratings...they'll try to figure something out, if the game was gonna be Fox or CBS.
  21. it's 10 hours later, and it's just a bit of arm soreness, best I can tell. Fatigue? Can't assign that to a reaction, sleep's been problematic.
  22. So I went and got the double whammy before lunch...flu and omicron booster. Unless the tech messed it up, which I doubt...the flu shot hurt more at the time, and bled more...just took the bandages off. I had the shots in diff arms. And the flu arm is a bit sore...whereas the omicron arm is a non-issue for a change. Yay!
  23. NOT to downplay, but the stridency here is from a very partisan source. This is a huge issue, but inflammatory rhetoric doesn't help anyone. The concussion protocol helps the league's PR only to the extent that it's executed with safety being the first priority. The hit Sunday shook that...again, for many...and the shot of those fingers splayed so grotesquely blows that to smithereens. In the court of public opinion, I suspect the Fins still had the benefit of the doubt, but now, I think they're completely on the hook to PROVE, if at all possible, that Tua was legitimately OK to return Sunday.
  24. Depends on the odds I could've gotten. A part of me is hoping that it's determined that the effects were more severe than normal, likely due to the impact Sunday. And if that's the case? IF!!!! it was a cover-up, then everyone involved needs to be fired. Coach, perhaps not, as he might well not know. But medical staff and GM at least. Massive fine against the team...as large as can be allowed. Lose ALL draft picks. Granted, that's unlikely. More likely, it was closer to a nod and a wink, and the med staff has to go...forever. Bar them for life.
