  1. Well...I suppose, if you count the sugar bomb cereals as food, this might hold... <whaps self> that's the big category I shoulda tossed in with the rest...
  2. That's pretty big; they're Canada's largest fast food chain. They also lost Chevrolet Canada and Scotiabank, Canada's 3rd largest bank. And Canadian Tire, but I'm not sure how large they are relative to the others. If it's, say, the equivalent of Firestone...that's substantial. It's what happens when your organization leads turtle up, rather than fess up, and no one believes them *at all*. Dude. What you people did...with the implicit embezzlement that appears to be the case as you switched money around...beats the tar out of the Sterling case, the Commanders, the Sarver situation. Doesn't reach the level of NWSL, but that bar is stratospherically high. Yeah, we get that the board is as desperate as the tobacco industry boards, because it's their heads directly in the line of fire. So you guys are dead men walking, insofar as your continuing in those positions. AND, this is the organization that's had notable issues with coaches assaulting their minor players. Burn Hockey Canada to the ground and start over. That's what those sponsors are also saying.
  3. I thought that was what you did to a Space Navy crewman who mutinies....
  4. I've done that, but slightly differently. "Defined" might be --Blast 12d6, 1/2 END. PD or ED, SFX within agreed limits. Also, I don't do "combined attacks" in a VPP either...that's the attack you're gonna use. So slapping on a 1/4 limit...Red Pen or No KB, perhaps...on the fly isn't a problem. And if I'm feeling lazy, I may not even write up the 4d6 RKA. --Blast, 8d6, Autofire 3 shots, 1/2 END --Blast 6d6 AVAD (Power Def), 1/2 END --Blast 5d6 NND (Power Def), Does BODY, 1/2 END, No KB (if GM allows, as this is 12.5 DCs) --Blast, 4d6+1, NND (Power Def), Autofire, 3 shots, versus non-standard defense, 1/2 END. (71 active.) --Flash, 11d6, sight and hearing, 1/2 END In HD, I'll use the Notes section for some comments...like, Power Def, Flash Def, Mental Def are all equal-cost. The cost of the Reduced END drops when you're piling on the pretty heavy outside advantages (NND, Does Body) so sometimes you get a bit more damage for the same points. And obviously Autofire sets up chaos. When you get used to them...there are many cases where a VPP has the edge. For example: VPP, 25 base + 50 control cost, Powers Can Be Changed As A Half-Phase Action (+1/2), No Skill Roll Required (+1) (87 Active Points); Heals and Harms (-1) (56 points total) Note: Care Required == Extra Phase, -3/4; 1/2 DCV, -1/4 1) HEALTHSENSE: Detect Body State (A Class Of Things) 16- (Unusual Group), Discriminatory, Analyze, Microscopic: x10, Partially Penetrative, Rapid: x10 (5 Active Points); Full Phase, -1/2, 1/2 DCV (-1/4) 2) Healing BODY 2d6, Decreased Re-use Duration (1 Turn; +1 1/2) (50 Active Points); Care Required 3) Dispel Poison 16d6 (48 Active Points); Care Required 4) Dispel Disease 16d6 (48 Active Points); Care Required 5) HA +4d6, 1/2 END, +1/4 6) HA +2d6+1, 1/2 END, AVAD (Power Defense; +1) 7) HA +1 1/2d6, AVAD (Power Defense; +1), Does BODY (+1) Notes: I put the Sense into the VPP because it's largely a justifying power...many GMs would say the healing powers will tell you what's wrong. Here, he's got to spend a phase. I'm also using a more complex notion of healer types, where taking care of poisons and diseases isn't implicit. This is still in progress somewhat, so I might pull the basic HA, as it's not a 'harm' per se (AVAD Power Def). Also note the Limited Powers (Heals and Harms). What's this worth? That's TBD but this feels pretty narrow to me. And, yeah, these are all the powers. I don't anticipate anything else OTHER THAN perhaps a 5d6 Heal. The limitations wouldn't change, that's concept. (It fits the campaign. Healing takes a moment or three.) So why not an MP? It wouldn't work. The healing powers have a -1 limitation; the harms DON'T. So I'd need to buy a 50 point MP and I can't reduce that with Common Modifiers. Even with the No Skill Roll Required (which is pricey as heck), the Limited Powers makes this cheaper than an MP and its slots. If the GM rules that the Heals and Harms is only worth -1/2, then the cost would be 66 points...slightly more expensive.
  5. I really hate it when they misuse "history" or "historic" like that. First time on MNF, but who CARES? That does not make it worth noting. Unfortunately it's done a lot.
  6. Holding can happen if defender A grabs a blocker, using that to move him out of the way for another defender to pass through the gap created. IIRC that's what John Perry ticked off, I believe. I was in the other room when that one happened.
  7. I don't have a problem that the Raiders don't get flagged for slinging Mahomes down just now, right before Kelce gives the Chiefs the lead. Mahomes was thrown laterally rather than down. STILL, the problem is, if that's the boundary, it's awfully fine. And the Raiders are losing their composure as they've just blown the lead. The personal foul post-TD is penalty #10, 94 yards so far.
  8. And with a minute to go in the half, there's ANOTHER impossible-to-explain roughing call. This really IS a joke. And a travesty. And it's SERIOUSLY going to alienate fans. I'm absolutely for player safety but that's 2 calls in 2 days that can't be made.
  9. MNF just getting started. Raiders get off to a classic Raider start...chop block, then a 50 yard pass bouncing off the receiver's chest... Chiefs, tho. Mahomes drops back on 3rd and 8, and a lineman has a clear run at him. Lineman wraps him up, moves him backwards a step or two...and the whistle gets blown. Two points: 1. The lineman doesn't try to clock Mahomes. 2. The refs blow the play dead well before Mahomes can be taken down. Mahomes wasn't going anywhere, so it was entirely reasonable, but plays have been left to run longer. Makes me think, a) the lineman was concerned with getting an unnecessary roughness/roughing the passer call, and b) the refs probably ARE being extra-cautious about QB hits.
  10. Still not as bad as Twinkies, Ho-Hos, Krispy Kreme glazed, Big Gulps, supersized fries, Halloween swag, ......... Of course, much of that is simply because a Pop-Tart isn't terribly large....
  11. Adam Schefter on Monday Night Countdown brought up the point that Rhule's firing may have been timed, in part, to give him a shot at one of the several college jobs...in order to reduce the cost of firing him. The NBA might want to adopt a Watson policy, but then...James Harden or LBJ trade-ins might just bankrupt a club or two...
  12. Can't be considered a surprise, but Matt Rhule's clock just ran out. Fired today. Got to think the GM's position is very shaky as well.
  13. Also remember that the base VPP does not allow powers to be changed during combat. To get there, you need to put an advantage onto the control cost; I usually find "requires a half phase" is more cost-effective while getting the job done. THEN you have to buy a skill roll to do it. With a multipower, you pick whatever you want up, each phase, without losing the half phase. A decent rule of thumb is, if you're using more than about 5 fixed slots, you're getting to the point where you may want to consider a VPP. I *rarely* use variable slots; they're quite expensive, and if you're looking at 3...perhaps even just 2...then a VPP may be preferable.
  14. That's all been largely true, altho there are some conventions in that regard. The 2 standard ones would be every change of possession, and before every kickoff. Those are explicitly for TV, as there's no need for them. Significant injury...but no one's gonna argue those. Minor injuries, tho, often do. The SNF commercial breaks, tho, run a little longer...I think. I didn't time them. Perhaps it's just the static, dead screen, with no sound, no clue about when it'll be over. That likely is perceived as slower/longer than even an annoying ad.
  15. And indeed. Mets are shut down completely, getting only 1 hit in a 6-0 cruise for the Padres. Their prize is the Dodgers.... And curiously, the other NL series is a divisional one. Braves-Phillies. MLB.com shows 1 Eastern for Atlanta-Philly, on Fox; Dodgers-Padres is late, 9:30 Eastern. The other 2 games are TBS, but the times are still TBD. Not quite sure why. I'm figuring Yankees first, maybe 2:30 or 3 Eastern, then Houston starting 6-6:30. These are on Tuesday.
  16. Getting a pointed lesson in just HOW MUCH commercial time there is tonight. Padres-Mets is on the TV, streaming SNF. When a commercial comes on the SNF, it's NOT being shown on the stream, just a flat promo screen. And there's no sound. That's the part that drives it home. I'm thinking Ravens are gonna regret not doing more when they had the Bengals locked down early. 10-10 at HT when the Bengals' first 4 possessions are 13 total plays, with 4 punts.
  17. The CBS guys ripped that one apart on multiple levels. As have pretty much every other commentator. Ref's explanation, as reported by SI: My only point is whether this was perhaps hypersensitivity based on the Tua play. Not saying that makes it a correct call; it wasn't. The league flat-out said the new concussion protocol evaluation is to err on the conservative side, tho, so what did they tell the refs?
  18. ABC twice...CBS...2 Fox...? Yeah, sounds about right. Normally you can add 5 or 6 between ESPN and ESPN2, 1-2 on FS1, at least 1 on CBS SN. BEFORE talking about premium services like SEC, ACC, or Big 10 networks. But whether that's actually reached saturation is a good question. For any of us not rooting for any particular team...quite possibly. For many? Doesn't seem to be.
  19. But that's also why Uncontrolled gets a Stop Sign...among other reasons, of course. I'd allow Sticky to remain on the target because Mobile feels like it's more voluntary...that the target could remove it. Sticky doesn't. Same cost either way.
  20. Bears are among the worst teams in the league, so don't go buying those playoff tickets just yet....
  21. Valid point, altho it doesn't impact the legality. Attacker makes the attack against a target. If the attack hits the target, at his full DCV: --target becomes the centerpoint for the AoE, until the END pool empties. --Target and anyone else in the AoE are Flashed. --Anyone moving into the AoE, either by their choice OR due to the target moving, is Flashed. --The duration of the Flash effect is separate from the duration of the Flash power. Once hit by the power, the Flash effect duration (which is in segments) applies. If the Flash power's duration (which is in phases) extends beyond the effect duration, determined on a person-by-person basis since different people may be affected on different segments, then the Flash power takes effect on them again. The key point is to recognize that the two timed effects are separate. If the attack misses, or when the power's targeted at a hex...the point of impact has to be determined. That's case-specific, clearly. But once that's determined, that is the centerpoint for the AoE, and the rest follows.
  22. Even the sneak would be a horrible call. If there's a 10% chance the play doesn't work, in my book, you punt unless you're facing a Rodgers, Brady, or the like, where 80 yards and 70 seconds is simply another opportunity to add to a legacy. This is the Browns with a backup QB. The Jets AND Giants have winning records multiple weeks into the season? WORSE!!! They have a combined 7 wins!!! The Apocalypse is nigh!!!
  23. It's the Lions. Is stupidity contagious? 1:15, up by 2. Chargers have 4th and 1 at their own 45. Browns have no timeouts. They go for it...pass is defended. They HAND the ball to the Browns nearly in FG range. They ESCAPE!!! because the 54 yarder's pushed to the right, but cripes, who are we bloody kidding???
  24. Sounds like you're largely on track. Constant Uncontrolled Sticky (see p. 345 6E1) AoE Radius Uncontrolled specifies you define the END pool, which will dictate how long it lasts. But note that this combination is a +2 advantage, so for a Sight flash, each die is 15 points.
  25. But first half scores don't mean anything. 17 straight for the Giants; the ONLY points for GB came on an intentional safety. Good gosh, are the Giants actually for real?
