  1. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares

Harry Potter and the Raiders of the Lost Ark

Harry Potter and the Dragon Riders of Pern

Maybe we should stop giving Rowling ideas for more ways to write the same book over again.

Car Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

  2. Re: [Twisted Game Concept] VG Supers

My brother, when I told him about that possibility, figured he'd like to play as Kay (Legend of Kay), Sly Cooper (Sly Cooper and the thevious Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Theives, Sly 3: Honor among Theives) Or the ultimate gadgeteer, Ratchet (Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, Ratchet Deadlocked, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters)

  3. Re: WWYCD: Fans and cons

Lab Rat may someday go to a convention, but he would do it in his Secret ID unless one of two things were happenning:

    1) The Convention was not a comics one (probably a furry convention).

    2) The convention was outside of Milwaukee (he doesn't realise how famous he might get as Lab Rat.)

And Hilarity will likely ensue should those conditions be met.

  4. Re: Dumbest thing...

    5) The Fantastic Four having their very public headquarters in downtown Manhattan -- with other tenants in the same building -- and still being able to afford both rent and insurance premiums...

    Matt "Funkiller" Frisbee

Apartments are cheaper than houses, which saves money for all the devices that Reed Richards keeps building.

  5. Re: "Crumbling Carrots, we've been animal-morphitized!"

    My characters...

Sonic Eagle would literally become an Eagle.

Reinard The Fox and Lab Rat would both be unalterred, and less likely to be stared at.

Kitsune would similarly be practically impossible and probably have a disguise lamer than Superman's: Hiding her extra tails.

  6. NOTE: This is not a game I intend to run. This is merely an idea that crossed my mind randomly and I am curious to see what you might think of this idea, how you would do it, and what characters you would make.

This is a fairly standard champions game with the following twist:

Through some unknown proccess garbled in technobabble from another dimension in the distand future of the distant past, video game characters manage to appear in the real world, looking just like real people but with all the personality (a la backstory), powers, and adjusted appearance of the game characters.

For example: if Mario were brought over into the real world, he would not be an 8-bit character but instead look more realistic. Let the screams of terror commence.

    So...

    What do you think?

    How would you do this?

What character would you play? (Stats would be nice.)

  7. Re: "Crumbling Carrots, we've been animal-morphitized!"

You mean someone still actually *remembers* Captain Carrot and his Amazing Zoo Crew?

Well, my character is named 'Fenris', so I think it's kind of obvious what he'd be... I'd try to get him Farah Foxette as a DNPC though. ;)

I have about half the series at home. Looking for the other half.

  8. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

From a Fantasy game last weekend. Our Heroes have arrived at the home of a wealthy merchant family. They need the family's 13-year-old daughter to fulfill a prophecy, and are trying to persuade the girl's mother to let her accompany them.

Lady Jiren (NPC): "So what brings you to Ergoth?"

Muhzan (PC monk): "Actually, we're here for your daughter."

Arto (PC barbarian): "Uh, Muhzan, can you come over here with me for a minute?"

Sir Boric (PC knight - OOC): "The barbarian is going to teach you tact? Dude, that's just embarrasing."

Could be worse. Muhzan could have been the Bard.

  9. Has anyone ever wondered what changes would be made for a Silver Age Spawn? What about a Golden Age Punisher or Iron Age Underdog?

This thread is just for people's ideas of how to transplant a hero from one age of comics to another, seeing what changes would be made. For an example, I'll take Silver Age parody Underdog (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underdog_%28TV_series%29) and turn him into an Iron Age character:

    * To Start with, an Iron Age Underdog will certainly be a drug-addict, because his powers do come from a pill. Perhaps he is a result of testing the drug on a dog.

    * Sweet Polly Purebred is not his girlfriend. He is simply stalking her as he desires to be her mate. (Polly is probably another mutation.)

    * Riff Raff will not be a gangster, but a successful businessman with connections to the White House and to organized crime.

    * Underdog will maintain his collateral damage, and also leave corpses in his wake.

    * Simon Bar Sinister will be a respected member of the scientific community and will not have the "Bar Sinister" moniker. Though he will be responsible for creating the superpower drug that Shoeshine/Underdog is hopelessly addicted to.

(And no, I am not influenced by the Walt Dismal (formerly Disney) studio film.)

  10. Re: When GMs Rewrite the rules

Sounds like this guy was just bloody awful...

Announce rules-changes first. Heck, warn players of any rules-changes, even changes based on style. For instance, if you, the GM, aren't worried about range or distance, then let the players know that so they don't worry about it.

And if your players feel it makes a power unbalanced, think about why it's imbalanced and work it around to a concensus.

But then, I'm just repeating what everybody else said.

  11. Re: [Warped Game Ideas (WGI)] Psycho-powers

I built a system like this back in 1994 or so, based off of the Stellar Games Nightlife and Super Ace Agents games. Your Sanity started at 100, and could be used to purchase powers, even in play. If it ever hit 0, you were an NPC. Sanity could be earned by living a normal life and doing normal, everyday things, while it could be lost by performing insane actions. Secret Identities were needed to keep the most powerful heroes sane enough to continue to function; every day at a normal job and away from adventuring added another sanity point or two.

Aberrant revisited this theme years later, and something similar is mentioned in Godlike and Wild Talents.

    Fun approach.

Le-sigh! I guess it's now become a cliche, showing up in so many games.

Not that Cliches are bad, but it can be dissapointing to think of something cool and then see it already done by other companies.

  12. Re: [Warped Game Ideas (WGI)] Psycho-powers

    Wasn't this called Aberrant????

I never purchased nor read nor played Abberant, so I wouldn't know. Though I would certainly not be surprised. White Wolf has always been into such combinations of "powerful" and "Helpless."

  13. Re: [Warped Game Ideas (WGI)] Psycho-powers

This just sounds too unrealistic for anyone to have fun in. I mean come on' date=' Batman is sane? Who's going to believe that?[/quote']

What I mean is that he'll be sane compared to more powerful supers.

I actually think its a pretty cool idea where you'd get all sorts of interactions like you think is happening in Blade Runner. So the guy that you think is normal is trying to take down the uber guy whose time is running out, and then it turns out the first guy isn't normal either.

Admittedly, I never saw Blade Runner, so I wouldn't know for sure.

  14. Re: Humans are "Special"

The one thing that humans can do that others can't is, sadly, warfare.

No other species so regularly fights in large groups against itself. In a galactic game like that, humans are generals.

Certain species of Apes and Ants also engage in warfare against their own species.

  15. Re: [Warped Game Ideas (WGI)] Psycho-powers

Interesting concept' date=' with need for working-out of details. Before I dive into that, a primary question (it's not clear from your post): are the PCs developing supers themselves, or do they just live in the city with them and have to deal with the fallout from them (maybe that's their job)?[/quote']

Either one can be an interesting angle, exploring a different approach to the premise' horror.

The "Developing Supers" part (best to start at 75-100 pts, maybe) could help to explore the horror of losing one's humanity when they exercise their talents, the price of being a hero or the punishment of being self-serving.

The "Deal with the Fallout" possibility (Possibly 25, 50, or 75 pts) would be a more traditional form of horror.

If you wanted to run such a game, either one would be an interesting possibility.

  16. Advanced warning: This is not a game I plan to run. This is just a crazy thought for an Iron Age Champions campaign or possibly as a comic book.

Now on to the Warped Game Idea:

Imagine a world where superpowers are real... at a price.

Superhuman abilities are not meant to be possessed by humanity. However, some people do have them, and it costs them their sanity. The powers start out quite weak, and the people possessing them at that point aren't too bad off. However, practice makes their power grow, and as their powers grow, they lose their grip on reality, which only makes their powers grow more (in essence, the Superpowers = Cthulhu Mythos Lore: The more familiar you are with them, the more powerful they get and the less sane you become.)

As a result, anyone with superpowers is feared, because of the madness caused by the powers. To demonstrate:

The equivalent to Batman has no powers: He is perfectly sane except for the whole dressing as a bat thing.

The equivalent to Superman is ultra-powerful: Metropolis is constantly getting wrecked because he thinks he's fighting Doomsday.

How does this sound for a Champions/Horror Hero campaign seed?

  17. Re: The Ultimate Tragedian? (Caution: Long, maybe better for posting under GD)

Admittedly, I do not normally play "Tragedian" characters, but I have in the past, and I do have various concepts that also fit into the Tragedian setup.

Trelaine Harpwhisker was a really old character of mine in a furry fantasy RPG (oddly enough, one with no magic). He was a vulpine minstrel whose fiance, Arryanna Whitefur, was brutally murdered when he was away doing his job as a storyteller. The trauma of seeing his beloved dead in such a manner has effective driven him insane. He is locked in a very deep depression and beleives himself haunted by the spirit of his fiance. He even had spells where he beveived a comely canine or vulpine woman to be Arryana. He's basically a Survivor and a Romeo.

An unplayed character, Goate Manchessen, is also a tragedian-type, made for a furry fantasy setting (this one, with magic). He is a healer from a family of necromancers, with all the concerns of bad blood that come with it. He is terrible disturbed by the sins of the father and seeks to redeem himself. His destiny, oddly enough, is that he will eventually take up the necromantic arts and destroy his family. What a rough way for fate to work out! I don't quite know what type this will make him.

Although it would be difficult to classify Reinard the Fox as a Tragedian, his arch-nemisis Lyle Lynx was once a good friend of his. And let's face it, it's rough to see a friend go down a terrible path, and rougher still to have to do something about it. Is there a category for tragedians who must ultimately have to fight the ones closes to them? Lynx himself can certainly be made into one of the Fallen, at least in my mind.

And outside of my characters, The Joker can somewhat be seen as a Fallen character, if one reads "The Killing Joke."Afterall, it took "one bad day" to drag him down from a failed comedian to the psycho that he is today.

Or maybe I do not fully grasp the "Fallen."

But I normally don't play characters with severe issues. That little fact does seem to cramp my ability to make them interesting.
