  1. Re: Shoujo Ninja Hero True, but lots of anime and manga takes the gender-barrier and does terrible, Cool Devices-esque things to it. For example; X (a.k.a. X/1999) is a shoujo manga often mistaken for being Seinen in America because of its violence and gore levels. As I understand it, Shoujo is ultimately more about thought than action, the emotional development over the physical. Admittedly, I was kinda hoping Susanoo might be able to give some advice. Anyways, thank you for your suggestion.
  2. Re: Genres HERO GAMES may want to avoid (intended to be humorous) Back Pain HERO
  3. Re: When the good cosmic being motiffs are taken I might want to yoink that one for a game sometime. It's just too funny to pass up.
  4. Re: Cable TV Show Demonstrating Martial Arts I've seen some episodes of Human Weapon. It's quite interesting. Fight Science might also be worth watching. How much did it cost at the Discovery Channel Store?
  5. Re: Genres HERO GAMES may want to avoid (intended to be humorous) Oops. Well, at least the rules I presented will by no means replace real life women, unless you play Rolemaster or love Palladium's character creation systems (i.e., have a dice rolling fetish) Back on topic: HERO 9 from Outer Space.
  6. Re: Genres HERO GAMES may want to avoid (intended to be humorous) Well, do we really need detailed rules for sex? Admittedly, I can see where some folks want to incorporate sex into a game, but most gamers are heterosexual males, so going into detail is guaranteed to be awkward. Even if the whole group is gay, it'll be awkward because we're all taught socially that sex is naughty. This is why so much of our humor revolves around sex; because we are socialized into being uncomfortable with it. So any sexual rules should be sketchy IMHO. And here's an approach for those who want it: Costing much like a Professional skill (heck you can even replace it with a PS like "Prostitute" or "Porn Star"), Sexual Performance (CON based skill) is an 8- everyman skill for all genres (unless the character is geared to not be sexually chapable, which would be a physical limitation in this kind of game). Rolling for this skill only involves the following question: Was it pleasant for your partner? A successful roll says you managed to provide a good experience. A failed roll simply means it wasn't thrilling. A really bad roll means it was a painful experience, causing damage (usually 1d6, not applying PD as it's internal damage. This can change depending on size differences or the careless use of certain implements.) This is just a simple thing I thought about in terms of how to work it in there. (stop snickering...)
  7. Re: Soundtracks? I remember putting up that thread.
  8. I had a thought that's been going through my mind for a while, and it kinda goes like this: The Heroine is in her first high school year, and she's a martial arts enthusiast of a sort. When she gets invited by a friend to join the school's martial arts club, which celebrates the arts as a way of life and as a way to fight. When she comes in, she finds that the club members are all warriors of a sort, each with a reason to study the martial arts and the techniques of their style. The burning question throughout the series, with the various characters is; "Why do they fight?" I understand the question came from the otherwise attrocious Street Fighter Alpha anime (Watch Street Fighter II The Animated Movie or Street Fighter II V if you want good Street Fighter anime.) However, what advice would you give for running such a series/campaign; a shoujo-style martial arts tale. Titles I am aware of and seen/read: Angelic Layer Samurai Showdown (Not as dreadful as others claim, but it is rather shonen) Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie (Seinen film) Street Fighter Alpha (Seinen) Battle Arena Toshinden (Seinen, maybe Shonon) Parts of the IMHO awful Dragonball Z (Shonen, you'll notice there isn't much Shoujo martial arts that I am aware of) Fatal Fury (15 minutes of content stretched out to nearly 2 hours) Titles I am merely aware of: Real Bout High School (not sure, but it sounds Shoujo and MA) Any other titles you'd reccommend that would suit martial arts and (preferably) Shoujo? Any suggestions on emphasis or tone? Any advice at all? (Aside from obvious ones like "keep the game going," which I confess is infinitely easier said than done) Thank you for your answers.
  9. Re: When the good cosmic being motiffs are taken Or Particle Man, for that matter. Though nothing happenned to Universe Man, the guy with the most complicated watch ever.
  10. Re: When the good cosmic being motiffs are taken Cosmo, the cosmic puppy is not exactly the kind of godling people really give a care about. That is, until he gives the big sad soulful eyes that make your soul burn with agony and drives you utterly psychotic. Ambrosia is the lord of drunkenness, capable of rendering anyone in a drunken stupor.
  11. Re: FFN: Super Bloopers Not a bad amateur video.
  12. Re: FFN: Super Bloopers Somehow, I like the idea of a film on super-bloopers.... I don't know why, but it seems funny to imagine Batman slamming the door on his cape a few times. Or the Flash getting a speeding ticket. Or Doctor Doom forgetting his lines and cracking up mid-sililoquy.
  13. Re: WWYCD: Fans and cons Previously, I mentioned cons with Lab Rat... If Reinard had the resources, he'd be bribing convention officials not to invite him. He's on Earth to do a job, not to become popular. And furthermore, he sees fame as one sure way to go down a terrible path. You'll never see a more graphic example of this than having had to take down a publicly drunken Dumbo. Sonic Eagle would be told to go the the con to cover the events. The fact that he's the newspaper's own superhero would make him fit right in. Interveiwing fans of other heroes would be his top priority, and he would do best to let April Lane interveiw the fans of Sonic Eagle, until a supervillain crashes the con, kidnaps April, and it's up to him to savew the day, which would be a blast at the con. Kitsune might attend just for fun and see what particularly geeky humans do when together. She might even join some of the seminars just to learn. Yeah, the Inari shrine she holes up in would be kinda empty, but the preisthood can manage.
  14. Re: Strange Hero Concepts: Discuss Your Own! Well, if I were to get into any discussions of strange hero concepts, I can't ignore Renn "Reinard The" Fox, who could best be described as having the mind of Batman and the body of Roger Rabbit (though, actually, he's a fox, but you get the idea) Another brainchild that my brother put into stats was K. Dogma, originally a mutant canine M. Bison (a' la Street Fighter). This one was a villain, however. And then I have Lab Rat, who while far from strange in concept (a genius genetic throwback who resembles a Kangaroo Rat and has the powers of infosponging and invention), he certainly could be considered wierd for the ways his geekiness comes into his gadgeteering, like a Nintendo Wii-mote becoming a lightsaber, The Powerglove becomming a telekinetic device ("I still gotta work out some flaws." "Flaws?" "Yeah. It's still crap for games.") and the fact that the pestbots are stored in devices that look uncannily like pokeballs. And soon, he may be converting a Robosapien into something. That's all I have to say for now.
  15. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... That must have been one dull axe. Classic joke. Reminds me of so many other gamer stories...
  16. Re: Genres HERO GAMES may want to avoid (intended to be humorous) DNPC HERO-- be a DNPC! Wraeththu Hero, based on the setting reveiwed here (as opposed to the actual books): http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=244590 Ribaldry Hero
  17. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Those are purely classics. I wonder, did that GM ever learn? Not familiar with Hermoine Granger, but this is a hilarious quote.
  18. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... I understand that I removed the contexts for the sake of brevity, but this is what I call "Champions Blue."
  19. Re: Genres HERO GAMES may want to avoid (intended to be humorous) Soap Opera HERO: The Complete Series, featuring all of your favorite episodes including the never-seen-before "All My Champions," Where Nighthawk discovers that Doctor Destroyer is really motivated by love, wishing to "Give the world" to his octogenerian girlfriend.
  20. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares LOL. Champions, the Rock Opera. At least, it would be a nightmare if I wrote the music for it. F.A.T.A.L. Attraction QBASIC Instict
  21. Re: WWYCD: "I Am Doctor Destryoer!" That could be an amusing scenerio.
  22. Long ago, I posted a joke WWYCD where your character's mind was swapped with Foxbat's for some unknown reason. Here's a redux of that situation, made more seriously: After a long fight with Doctor Destroyer, you discover that your mind has somehow just been swapped with Doctor Destroyer, but you only have a fraction of his power, while Doc D has seem swapped with you and given greater power. What would you do with Doctor Destroyer's body and what would Doctor Destroyer do with yours? [Note: keep in mind that the powers have just gotten scaled down to the point totals for the mind.]
  23. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Yep. Profiling: Enforcing stereotypes one descriptor at a time! :-p
