  1. He could be charged with involuntary manslaughter in court which would be months away from an actual trial and his lawyer could present a defense of self-defense on behalf of another. It depends on how your state self defense laws are written.

If he or the team are locally popular the District Atty.'s office may plea bargain it to some form of Probation (a new Watched) and community service working with the State Police.

I watch a LOT of Law & Order.

  2. I always wanted to see a Quantum Leap movie where Sam leaps into Thomas Magnum (of Magnum PI), imagining it as Magnum helping Al solve a murder or other crime at the Quantum Leap facility while Sam works with Rick, TC, and Higgins to solve a crime in Hawaii.  Since both series were created by Donald Bellisario, I thought it would be a natural pairing of shows.

There was one in planning before QL was cancelled. Sam would have leapt into Tom Selleck during the filming of a Magnum P.I. episode.

Also the character Selleck played on two episodes of The Rockford Files, the annoyingly perfect Lance White was a major help for him later landing the role of Magnum.

  3. None of those is a name for a campaign. Those are description of styles.

George Lucas didn't call his movie Sci-Fi with elements of Aurthurian legend and '30's serials. It was "Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope". Gene Roddenberry described his idea for a new TV series to NBC execs as "Wagon Train to the stars" but he named it Star Trek.

Decide what the basic elements of what will bring these different characters together are. Is it fighting an evil empire, establishing a benevolent empire or federation? Maybe it's loyalty to the ship that's both their way of making a living and their home?

In Comics both the books and the Games it's easier, the name of thing in question is generally the name of the team. X-Men, Fantastic Four, Avengers, Champions, Strike Force, etc. With Sci- Fi it's a little tougher but think of your game as if it's a movie or show. What would the name be then?

  4. If you're looking for an episode to try out the training wheels so to speak, I've always been partial to the local bank being robbed. Either by out of the book villains or a team of normals. Late night break in or daring daylight hold-up depends on what you have for Heroes. It's an easy scenario to get across, not much in the way of pre-game explanation needed. A nice mix of Secret ID's stopping at the ATM and Heroes on patrol gets everyone in quick, and basing the interior/exterior of the bank itself on a real location somewhere local will help new players picture the environs in their heads and help with player immersion in the action

All in all a nice little training room session or the origins of a team, either way try and have a good time. Good Luck!

  5. Sounds like something that would be Jammed with Spells...  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

    Chris.

That's the first thing I thought of. You beat me to it.

It's not your fault Tiger, the ancient Romans had the saying that " there's nothing new under the sun." So if they were tripping over each others ideas.... Just remember the words of Robert Heinlein, "Steal from one source it's plagiarism, steal from three or more and it's research."

Check out the references above, hit the libraries & bookstores, don't forget the History Channel and come up with something more detailed and more about the historical/fantasy elements that make you excited about the idea of playing in that world.

  6. I figure "Man of Steel" either the movie or the John Byrne series is around the 1000-1500 point area. The full-tilt-boogie Silver Age drawn by Curt Swan version is more of a throw out the calculator and just write down powers till the ink runs dry kind of thing.

There are a number of great write ups done by people on this board at many different levels.

  7. I've come across this in a Star Wars campaign I played in. Like the real world, it's common for people to speak several languages but only read one or two. The basic trade languages are Common with Aurebesh as the written version and Huttese.

Han Solo in the movies speaks Common, Huttese, and Wookie. In the novels he can fake his way through a number more. In the real world, it's like someone who can make himself understood in Japanese or we call "Chinese" but is really Mandarin or Cantonese without being able to read a menu in those countries.

  8. It all depends on what your looking for. A contact can either be a nameless, faceless vending machine or a character that enriches the game. Ben Urich for Daredevil, Microchip for Punisher and the Comissioner for the Bat are all interesting and fleshed out characters in their own right.

A GM and Player should get together and talk about what the game and the people involved want. A GM issued a a contact to play that they don't want won't get much airtime. Conversely, a GM telling a player they have to spend points for a contact they don't like or think isn't useful won't be appreciated, and may actually be resented.

  9. Over in the Fantasy Hero thread a GM was concerned that all his players wanted to be Swordsmen, and I replied something to the effect that if you have a group consisting of Conan, the Grey Mouser, Gomez Addams, D'artaignian and Luke Skywalker that you'ld have a hell of a game.

It's about the characters not the write-ups. Same thing for the Defenders show, as long as the writers create interesting scripts and the actors make their roles come alive the show will be great. If not than the most different power sets in the world won't save it.

  10. All the domestic abuse stuff is deftly avoided in the MCU by making Steve Lang the Ant Man, and relegating Hank Pym to the role of charming father instead of abusive husband.

In the Ant-Man film Hank briefly mentions that not having the proper shielding in the helmet affected his brain chemistry. This gives the MCU an out about any audience perceived behavior.

I always thought the comic character Hank Pym took a bad rap for what was a screw-up by the Marvel staff. The writer of the issue in question wanted a panel where in a fit of rage Hank turns abruptly and accidentally pushes Jan backwards a few feet. A miscommunication to the artist led to a panel where he instead backhands her to the floor. The writer didn't see the change until the book was on the stands and to late to fix.

From Silver Age hero to wife beater in one move. I agree that the character can never be forgiven by the public and those actions in the real world must never be ignored but to have this not as a planned move of the editorial staff but from a mistake in a memo will always bother me.

  11. I tend to like quick & dirty solutions so as not to slow the game down. Check the game sheet of the player who got zapped and a couple of dice.

Roll 'em and count down that number of powers. That's what got affected.

It's truly random and there should be no way a player could think the GM was being unfair.

  12. Alas, I am winging a lot of this so planning may not be my strong point. I have only a few rough general ideas.

Thank you. Ego boosts are always welcome, I am shallow like that.

While I'm not that tech savvy myself so the villains may suffer from the short coming of the guy writing them, I do hope to touch on some of that.

    Darn it, Channel 3!

Yay! I am too actually. Some of the supporting characters are forming up in ways I didn't expect which is a pleasant surprise.

Great minds think alike... :) Though I was thinking of having Pinprick or Tornado beat him to it. How Arctic Fox will react to that...well, I suppose I best see how that goes down.

Classic moves.. Fliers always think swimmers cheat when they take it below ;) Love you, Wondy, but sour grapes.

I'm very flattered. But no, not for a long time, unless you count some blabs on some of the past superdraft selections on these boards.

I'm actually a bit afraid to try fanfiction, friendships have gone south if the "wrong" star fleet captain wins :)

I've read some wonderful stuff on FF.n and I certainly think you should post this, but it's your call. Keep up the great work.
