1. I was thinking it would serve as a good general sensor, at least for a technological area. Always open to new ideas if ya got some.
2. I've got a vehicle with a sensor array I have defined thusly: Passive Sensor and Communications Array: High Range Radio Perception (Radio Group), Concealed (-4 with High Range Radio Perception PER Rolls), Discriminatory, Telescopic: +1, Tracking, MegaScale (1" = 1 km; +1/4), Usable By Other (+1/4) (40 Active Points); Nonpersistent (-1/4), Physical Manifestation (-1/4), Extra Time (Delayed Phase, -1/4) My question is how I might access these sensors if I am not in/on the vehicle. I am thinking the physical manifestation would be a device I carry (or is part of my equipment) that isn't a target OIF. However, I wanted to check with everyone here before I proposed it to my DM. If this doesn't work, how might I lay out a device I can carry with me that can link into these sensors, or sensors of select other vehicles/bases/equipment etc.
3. I've looked, and there is a serious dearth of vehicles on the board. No love? Vehicles have always been equipment for me, but I've been thinking that there is plenty of room for a character who has vehicles as part of "the package". I've been working on a hover bike for a character, based loosely off the ossum hoverbike used by Darth Maul in one of the Star Wars movies. Here's what I have: 25STR, 14DEX, 20BODY, 3SPD 29 Gliding 24", x4 Noncombat, rapid Noncombat movement (+1/4), No Turn Mode (+1/4) (43 Active Points); Ground Gliding (-1/4), Physical Manifestation (-1/4) 30 Armor (8 PD/8 ED), Hardened (+1/4) (30 Active Points) So, it's fast and maneuverable (100mph noncombat over any terrain I can reasonably predict) with some reasonable defenses. However, in a SF series just being transportation isn't enough. So in that mindset, please help me pimp this hoverbike up a bit. I'm thinking a 200pt bike all in all (give or take), so how might you improve this bike? A large Detect (passive) for a sensor net? Endurance battery to power other goodies? A couple of drones that can be dropped off while traveling to provide triangulation for targets? Ways to "stealth" the craft so it doesn't appear on sensor nets? Help me out here. Hero Designer format is great, or run what ya brung.
4. The Inherent issue isn't an issue. I was flip-flopping between having a foci (something removable, perhaps) or something permanently connected.
5. Sorry. They are a single arm with the Duplication power. Got the idea in one of the threads here.
6. The +23 strength would only apply to my mechanical limbs. My normal 14 STR would apply to everything else.
7. I like extra limbs. Here's what I'm working with in 5e (if that matters): 21 Extra Limbs: (Total: 35 Active Cost, 21 Real Cost) Extra Limbs (2), Inherent (+1/4) (6 Active Points); OIF (-1/2) (Real Cost: 4) plus +23 STR (23 Active Points); Only w/ Extra Limbs Power loses about a third of its effectiveness (-1/2), OIF (-1/2) (Real Cost: 11) plus Endurance Reserve (55 END, 1 REC) (6 Active Points) (Real Cost: 6) Some benefits I have thought of might include: 1: SLs with Acrobatics, Breakfall, Climbing, Fast Draw, Hoist, Rapid Attack 2. CSLs with heavy weapons (aka the BFG), grappling, HtH damage (or OCV to reflect more opportunities) How might I bundle some other powers into this? I was thinking of a MP with common limits OIF and Extra Limbs Only but I'm open. I was wondering if anyone had a better idea? For that matter, I was wondering if anyone had more ideas for the benefits of having some extra limbs?
8. You made an excellent point. I had just been thinking about vehicles and how they might hide. Using your notions I could use Stealth as a "stealth system", or concealment to make that vehicle look like some other type of vehicle. That's interesting..
9. Good points. 25 Increased Arc Of Perception (360 Degrees) with all Sense Groups 06 Naked Modifier: MegaScale (1" = 1 km; +1/4) for up to 25 Active Points 06 Telescopic +2 versus Range Modifier for Sight Group and Hearing Group Something like this? Havent' stuck in limitations yet, which are substantial. This is essentially like a Jedi searching the area for dangers, or Darth Vader reaching out to locate Luke.
10. I've got this idea for a sensory power. Essentially, I extend the range of my senses, but entending them as an AOE. I want to be able to extend my senses so all my senses apply out to a range of a mile. So essentially I can see/touch/taste/etc everything in that range. I can quickly locate any particular individual in that range (barring powers, darkness or other factors my normal senses cannot perceive) and so forth. The potential to add new sensory capabilities easily into the power to "expand" it later might be a worthwhile consideration. I thought a naked advantage, but I don't see how. Any suggestions on how to build this?
11. At the risk of oversimplifying, I submit that following this train of thought Transmit (Senses) is analogous to Images corresponding to a sense group (albeit with a "we know it's a transmission and not reality" limitation for the recipient as well as the requirement of requiring some means of receiving those images. Unlike Mind Link, communication is possible but only indirectly, due to the "sending" being one-way and limited to visual imagery (or whatever is analogous to imagery in various other sense groups). I am curious what you all think about how this sending is accomplished. In the event of noticing a bunch of mooks coming up from behind, our hero Transmits this to his party. Does this work as: 1. Visualize a short note "group of mooks coming up from behind" that someone could "see" and understand, or 2. Show them your visual feed of mooks approaching from behind, hoping the others in your party who can receive this imagery can interpret it 3. You send them the summary impression of "mooks coming up from behind" I personally
12. The effect is certainly "this is what I'm looking at right now", or "this is what I'm listening to right now". It's a TV broadcast of the senses, not a two-way street. In the real world, special forces throat mikes and such would do this. Our Abrams battle tanks can look through the senses of another vehicle or even control that friendly gun and hit targets they don't have direct sight to. The idea of a focus of some sort makes sense.
13. "I am thinking a form of Cumulative mind control, probably with some Extra Time, is the best representation. I am also thinking, from the GM perspective, that a character who gradually takes over complete control of anyone he's able to spend significant time with may be problematic in-game." Now that is a wonderful, amazing, terrifying idea.
14. Actually Lucius, those are particularly cool. I like super skills and this was an unexpected use.
15. Which can be easily covered with a limitation "Only Affects vs My Character" (-1)
16. This is in many ways the mirror of the recent thread on "unremarkable appearance" pseudo-invisibility thread. The same essential conditions apply.
17. This is my take on Christopher's "Deep Pockets" from Pathfinder at http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/core-rulebook/pathfinder-chronicler Larceny Backpack: Summon 5-point Gear, Profession Or Skill Gear (+0), (0 END; +1/2) (7 Active Points); (Extra Segment, -1/2), OIF (; -1/2), Must Fit In Backpack, Under 2lb And 50gp (-1/2), 8 Charges (Recovers In Towns Or Armory; -1/4) Basically any mundane item you might have been reasonably expected to have been able to have had access to in town or picked up along the way you might have anticipated a potential need for or just stuck in "just in case". And some charges so when you run to town you spend cash to replace those charges. Does that seem balanced?
18. I hear that. I'm trying to address that very issue on the discussion board. The problem is avoiding having to bring a separate equipment sheet.
19. I like the PF "Deep Pockets" also. The only way I could think of to model it would be to assign a lot of charges, a limitation those charges have to be replenished in town. I can't think of a way to make that work right without having items discorporating after a given interval, but I'd love to see your thoughts on it (I'm 5e but whatever you happen to be running). You'll note that I dropped the notion of bonuses to gear to keep this simple and focused on "stuff" rather than bonuses. My VSFX of "With the VSFX being for his Skills, Profession Or Reasonably Forseeable" is my initial thought on how to keeping this from being and endless Bat-Bombs and Bat-Lawnmowers and such. Love to see another way.
20. The effect of this spell is not that the no-sound zone prevents the spell working because those outside cannot hear it, but because the words weren't spoken at all. That being said, I'm not sure how IPE will prevent that enemy caster (and you) from noticing somehow that his spells aren't working. A 1-minute limit is really saying "shut that caster down for the entire combat" and that's cool, although I would probably do it with continuing charges if possible. The really intriguing part of this spell is the secondary effect. That enemy caster is obviously going to realize his spells aren't working, and will therefore concentrate his efforts of dispelling it. Whether he cannot dispel it and is powerless or whether he spends time trying to dispel it (and not attacking you) still leaves you with the net effect of nobody is trying to fight you. Heck, even allied casters of that enemy mage will probably be spending Phases attacking that silence spell and not you.
21. You got it all wrong Hugh. It's not about being Batman. It's about not having to maintain an equipment list. But I must admit I've come to the conclusion the VPP isn't the way, or at least the way I put it up. I can see what Hugh is talking about. Power creep. I'm looking to reduce "stuff" to SFX. Thanks for helping me clarify to myself what I'm trying to model. "Reduce gear and equipment to SFX with the understanding that any gear that his skills and profession might require and any special gear that may be reasonably expected to have been anticipated as potentially necessary is packed and available" Neztilla's suggestion is short and sweet, and I do like it although since I am going with a broader definition of skill equipment than I am aware that the rules go I don't feel comfortable with going that way. I also like the "Deep Pockets" from Christopher. They are the basis of the clarification above and the inspiration for Comprehensive Gear: Summon 5-point Required Gear & Equipment, VSFX (; +1/4), (0 END; +1/2) (9 Active Points); OIF (; -1/2), (Extra Segment, -1/2) (With the VSFX being for his Skills, Profession Or Reasonably Forseeable) Yep, I've heard the arguments about Summon both ways. It works in 5e although I understand in 6e it doesn't. The 5-pt amount is a more or less arbitrary choice in line with eepjr24's thoughts. But always looking for more ideas
22. All 3 are good ideas. I'm still leaning toward the VPP but I think the feedback (overt and implied in the VPP writeup) has considerable merit. Larceny Backpack: VPP (Gadget Pool), 5 base + 2 control cost, Full Phase Action (+0), No Skill Roll Required (+1) (9 Active Points); OIF (; -1/2), All items must fit inside pack (-1/4)
23. Both approaches work. Regarding matches and other gear that don't fit 14th century technology, we have access to alchemical items from Pathfinder (which includes matches) if you were wondering how that appeared. I'm just trying to keep it simple. Stuff like matches and gear we tend to view as SFX.
