  1. Is it okay to have a character who is weak in direct combat but loaded with skills?
  2. I also remember the Penance Stare didn't work on The Punisher because he felt absolutely no guilt over what he did. The player basically wants the stare to enfeeble the victim or perhaps cause them to be less effective in some way because of the shame/guilt. It only affects mortal beings.
  3. Our Priest character also wants to duplicate the a Penance Stare ability of the Ghost Rider. I still feel like a noob.
  4. I'm building a cheesy, stereotypical old school sleuth (trench coat, slouch hat and all) and I'm having trouble building him at the 250 point level. He doesn't have any real powers other than minor Danger Sense, some Mental Defense and a few other minor abilities. Thoughts?
  5. One of our players has a priest character (actually pretty interesting) and he has some questions about how to treat exorcism and turning undead/demons. Thoughts?
  6. Shadow over Innsmouth. Fantastic story.
  7. Years and years ago I had a suit wearing brick named Big Business. You're welcome to use the name if you like.
  8. I have a character who creates a blinding cloud of dust, debris, leaves in his power set. Would this be treated as Flash or Darkness?
  9. One of my players is interested in taking a turn at being a GM. She's pretty green but has a lot of interest and a great imagination. This means that I'm getting to play
  10. Hrrmfff... I may turn into a slow recovery INT/EGO transfer . I welcome all input but I do want to incorporate that attack mode and make it nasty. Is it acceptable to have two ability transfers linked to one attack? Thank you all for your wisdom.
  11. Perhaps Serpentine or Constrictor as I'm assuming he will be doing some constricting with his abilities in the future.
  12. I understand that not everyone likes D&D. I've played Champions since 1989 when the 4e rules came out (still using it) but D&D is still my choice for fantasy and I tend to have a stronger bond with my D&D characters after them surviving to medium-high levels because it felt like an accomplishment. Plus in D&D you have Raise Dead and Resurrection so there's really no perma-kill in D&D. I just wanted advice on how to treat that particular ability in Hero System. I have two races in mind for continuing antagonists- mind flayers and Cenobites (demons) to go with my villain with a god complex. I will also have a criminal organization of some sort. I've kinda gotten carried away creating villains, the party had better hope more than one Hunter doesn't show up at once
  13. Yeah. It's not for immediate use. They aren't ready for what is on the other side but maybe something else will step through to this side. I'm not going to do something that I'm uncomfortable with. I'm a new HERO GM but not a new GM. I'm setting up the pieces as it were. The puzzle box is basically the Lament Configuration from Hellraiser.
  14. I may be interested, I play 4e. I'll check it out
  15. After the reaction to my thoughts of bringing mind flayers into my game I feel a bit apprehensive about this next idea. Each character has a Hunted By and two have drawn the attention of something dark indeed. One of the heroes is a priest (complete with divine abilities) and he found an interesting little item. A beautiful cube made of mahogany and brass which appears to be a puzzle of some sort. It opens portals to other dimensions. He asked the gadgeteer to help him figure out how it works
  16. I don't want instakills but I do want them to be truly feared. I was afraid to go against certain creatures in D&D, villains in Hero do not have the same aura of dread.
  17. Someone did a study years ago and found that the life expectancy of an adventurer in D&D was about 3rd level
  18. Well in 2e all four tentacles have to hit in order to partake of the grey matter milkshake so it's not an easy maneuver to pull off. The prospect of dying gave you a closer bond with your beloved character I always found. D&D was my first rpg when I started back in 197(cough)9.
  19. Having your brains eaten would be pretty fatal as would drinking a bottle of arsenic. Don't like reality?
