  5. Re: WWYCD: HE is not himself. Reading the post I'm not sure it's intended to be malicious. The first thing it made me think of was the Dark Phoenix Saga. That is to say you're character has been out there heroing it up and at some point was swapped by another entity that took their place. All the actions they've taken so far have been corrupting the dark intent of the doppelganger as the nature by the simple attempt to emulate your character they have essentially shrived for salvation. More interestingly, unlike the Dark Phoenix where Jean Grey was the original character has been active fighting the good fight while trapped in a hostile (,very) location. Maybe this appeals to the writer in me since it's left ambiguous and the poster left it open to tell a new story of the adventures of the original hero while in exile. Admittedly I am looking at this from a rather analytical viewpoint and may not have the emotional investment in the character another player may have. That said, I would be highly disappointed if this was the climax of the arc and there was no follow up. What I would like to see are stories trying to reconcile the hero with his clone and confronting the source of said clone. To use the names of the poster, taking on the newest doppelganger with his predecessor who had been a hero then later confrontation Asmodous with the aid of the reformed demon imposter.

  7. Re: The Namesake Thread Certified Background PT 1: Once a normal man like everyone else the man that would become Certified would first have to loose the two things he cared most for. Somewhere on the streets of Manhattan a couple drifts from bar to bar oblivious to the world. As the moved along an ally to a nearby club they were attacked. The man had phenomenal strength and speed smashing the man's body before taking the woman's life. Gnashing at her throat the night turned red as the assailant fed. Panicked her lover wasn't sure what to do. Smashing a bottle of gen across his back he set fire to the attacker using his lighter. The assailant fled into the night, but not before snapping the woman's neck. The police found them the next day. The man was catatonic wrapped around her. It was too years before he spoke again. Confined to a little white room the man was plagued by visions of that night. Slowly though they began to change, to evolve. Answers began to come to him when before there were none. From his cell his mind began to drift out through the walls into the world where he saw the world for what it truly was. Death had passed him by and opened his mind to new realms but he wanted none of this. Two years to the day he spoke: I'm ready to leave now. It was another year before the doctors believed him. On the outside he drifted using his new eyes to prove that his asylum dreams had been real. At each dark corner they proved to be worse than what he envisioned. With each revelation he could sense himself changing and this frightened him. Was it a madman's haze, coincidence alone could no longer explain the events that seemed to shape to his will. From the halls of academia to the receded stores of Chinatown Certified studied these phenomena he learned of traditions and rotes and a name for his will, an old name, magic. It was somewhere between a pint of bourbon and the Ars Magica he realized this was not his world and he could never return to the place he one knew. Consigning himself to death he began to study those what had taken his love. Again he finds the old names and the legends. Soon though he finds the place that would surely bring him a fitting end. A vampire bar on the coast overlooking the sea. here he could be done in and forgotten without a second thought from their clientele. this however was only the beginning of a new story.

In the heat of the night In the heat of the day When I close my eyes When I look your way When I meet the fear that lies inside When I hear you say In the heat of the moment Say, say, say Some day, some day, some day, Dominion Come a time Some day, some day, some day, Dominion Some say prayers Some say prayers I say mine
  10. Re: your pcs might be OVERPOWERED IF... You look at this thread and think: Amateurs.
  11. Re: your pcs might be OVERPOWERED IF... You have agreed to house rules that all their damage dice are counted as 2's as the standard effect rule was still too powerful.
  12. Re: your pcs might be OVERPOWERED IF... Thousands die as collateral damage form your low end attacks. Which is okay since you can simply bring them back to life on your next action.
  13. Re: your pcs might be OVERPOWERED IF... You have a belt pouch of mentors that enlarge to full size when you launch them. (I think that character was actually in the back of the 3rd ED Champions book.)
  14. Re: The Namesake Thread I think rewrites are cool. Updating characters after years of inactivity can be a nice look back at what major events shaped them. Some other people have posted that their character's were not originally for the hero system but other games. Post them anyway and maybe one of the creative minds here would be willing to take a crack at putting them in Hero terms. I mean the stories don't change just what the numbers look like. To that effect I originally started using the name Certified back when HTML chat rooms were were king. Unable to come up a good name I looked at my keyboard trying to think of something when I saw Windows Certified listed at the bottom of it. For whatever reason I decided that Certified sounded cool and that I would run with it, since almost anything or anyone can be Certified. The Character evolved from this. Also from the realm of White Wolf, not Aberrant like Black Ops but their main line World of Darkness. A chat room I had been visiting opened a role playing room and everyone seemed to be all about Vampire and posting absurd stats. So I decided to have a little fun and Certified became a starting level mage just to see how long he could survive in the proverbial lion's den. I had no clue that in his inception he would become both a regular patron part of the in crowd and completely loathed. Over the course of a couple of years the character evolved as they do into something that was fairly competent, but I'll put all of that in the bio when I finally finish the hero conversion.
  15. Re: The Namesake Thread This was tried before.
  16. It seems a lot of handles/user names on this board are based on Characters they currently or at one point played. So here's the thread. post your namesake character and bio you would like to include and lets see what comes up. Cheers!

  19. Re: Holding the end of the world Apollyon (Mystic): At some point this device was created so one must lean how to unmake it. Wrapping the shard to his chest Apollyon whould make sure he could sleep without fear of it coming loose then begin the long process of research, calling in any favors he may have earned from other mystics over the years. Fallout (Self Contained Ball of Living Radiation): Not understanding magic and not really having anyone to turn to for advice on the matter Fallout would place the crystal inside it's body then begin the slow journey towards the nearest black hole. This may take him several years and he may need some help to break away from orbit but not having any bodily functions it can survive in the depths of space. Hopefully someone smarter than him would find a solution long before he had to cruise through a black hole.
  20. Metahumans Rising has been chugging along for about a year and a half. Recently we've had several players leave for various reasons. This leaves me with four players and three players for the two teams. The first team the Defenders was intended to be a kind of Bronze Age, Golden Age revival feel but seems to have dipped into darker territory. This has cast a shadow over the campaign ever since. With the loss of some of our players I've taken a step back to try and reevaluate how best to moderate the campaign tone and feel without outright telling players: No you can't do X or you should do Y. The Defenders roster is comprised of four members currently: Hardware: Power Armored Brick and Energy Projector, Dorian an Energy Projector and Controller, Shadow Knight, ninja and a Mako: attempting to reform petty criminal Demi-Brick and Scrapper. What I'm considering is bringing in fifth character who can complement the team without stepping on does powers wise but more importantly is more idealistic when it comes to what heroes do and don;t do. Kind of a moral compass. This isn't to say they're a boyscout but someone who is a more classic hero persona. The other team: Project D is a government team who live n this grayer area. Where stories from the Defenders are intended to be heroic and larger than life, Project D deals with gritter scenarios and situations. Their roster consists of Freedom, patriot (in the vein of the Comedian) and energy projector, Thunderbird Native American Brick and Archer and Hound, mentalist and drunk. Here I think it would be good to add one additional player for balance, two if I decide to add a fifth member to the Defenders. Currently, the two teams are completely independent of each other. At one point I had a second GM to help me. Part of these long range plans does involve keeping the tones of the parallel campaigns separate. There are long range plans regarding the teams interactions but I'll keep those to myself as I know at least one of my current players and one former player posts here as well. Thoughts?
  21. Re: Whoops! Did I really allow that power? Okay the GM who allowed that one ... you know I don't think it even needs to be said.
  22. Re: Whoops! Did I really allow that power? I can only picture this once great sea beast fearful of tiny sea things... oh no it's a jelly fish... swim swim swim...
  23. Re: Whoops! Did I really allow that power? That's true but I think the League of Extraordinary Chickens should have their day.
  24. Re: Whoops! Did I really allow that power? Yep Facepalm... the only logical next action.
