  1. This is the DC thread in OUR universe. We're just getting cross posts from LL in the Hero Boards AU.
  2. Seems like an extreme level of sarcasm. Also about as bad of an idea as making bomb jokes at the airport.
  3. Not quite 'right now,' but we got back from a Joan Jett concert at the state fair a little while ago. She sounds exactly like her old recordings. Was a pretty good show.
  4. Had to google it: a lakh is 100,000, making that "precarious" the understatement of at least the week. Yipes.
  5. So, basically they went from a literal concrete jungle to a swimming pool as a result. Ouch.
  6. Dr. Janet Fraiser Battle of the mighty mites: Atom Ant vs. Mighty Mouse
  7. I don't think the penguin has quite given up yet. Gun control was front and center on the Democratic platform in 2016. The cartoon seems more appropriate for the Obama administration, when the issue was somewhat back burnered for the party. (Though not entirely.)
  8. We had a double feature yesterday due to a Redbox promotion: GOTG2 and Logan. Liked both. Minor nitpicks were GOTG being a bit too obvious with the funny dialog this time around, some of it seeming forced, and Logan looking like it was shot on high definition video tape with really excessive lighting.
  9. I haven't seen the Netflix version, but the anime or Japanese live action adaptations are both worth watching if you don't mind reading subtitles. They were very clever in using the notes and the cat and mouse game with the investigator (L in the anime).
  10. Interesting! I wonder if you have to have the first expansion to get the new one... Also in the news, Patch 7.3 is supposed to be dropping today in WoW. I really need to pick some more flowers before heading to Argus, though. Token prices are still a bit inflated due to Destiny release.

    Taser

OK. I didn't realize they had such a high failure rate outside of failing to make contact with both prongs or where clothing interfered.
  12. OK, gotcha. I was just thrown by the JL comic reference, so wasn't sure we were on the same sheet of music. As far as Wonder Woman, I didn't really have any major (and not really any minor that come immediately to mind) issues with it and thought Gadot was amazing in the role. To each their own, I guess.
  13. I think you have an antecedent problem with "they're" in your second sentence. As written it's indicating that you don't think the NRA is powerful enough to represent a threat to our democracy, which isn't what I think you meant. If I'm correct in thinking that you meant to refer to the gun control lobby, I'll have to disagree with your assessment of their relative power level (to the NRA/pro gun lobby) and point out that "threat to our democracy" is too vague to address. In fact, it's one of the types of emotional catchphrases that clouds the issue. Let's break those two things down: Relative power levels: I don't honestly know the best way to measure this, but my take on it is that you need to be heard first. The gun control lobby is easily the superior side here. I hear gun control messages constantly in the mass media, including straight political commercials, while the NRA tends to preach to the choir by occasionally pestering me with a fear mongering phone call that gets derided and hung up on. (The last one was that I needed to send them money because of the imminent threat of a Constitutional Congress being called to eliminate the 2nd. I asked the moron on the other end if they understood what was required for that to happen, called him an idiot and hung up on him.) The gun control lobby is a lot more effective at spreading their message and packages it better IMO. Threat to out democracy: IMO, it's a bit silly to tie gun ownership to defending our democracy. Sure, the connection is there historically, but at a practical level, nobody is going to overthrow our current government with small arms. IMO, bringing any form of weaponry to a gathering to intimidate the other side invalidates your right to peaceful assembly as well. I suppose that some people could point to "successful" uses of violence or threat of violence to settle disputes between our government and its citizens, but those cases usually boil down to the government side exercising restraint to avoid bloodshed.
  14. The gun control lobby isn't exactly without influence, either. Both sides are guilty of clouding the issue so much that it's nearly impossible for the average voter to make a rational decision, which is what they want. It's easier to use emotion to manipulate voters than it is to use reason. There have been plenty of studies pointing to people making major decisions being driven by emotional needs more than logic.
  15. I'm not sure if we're talking past each other, so apologies in advance. To clarify what I was saying: In the CW DC Universe, there are two Vixen characters. The one who is in Legends of Tomorrow is portrayed as a member of the JSA and is the grandmother of the modern day Vixen who appeared in Arrow.
  16. That's not present day Vixen. She's from the JSA. Besides, the two aren't connected anyway. They've used several characters currently in the TV shows in the DCEU movies.

    Taser

When you say "taser" do you mean the Taser brand device that shoots two prongs into someone then incapacitates them with an electric charge, or those sparky "stun guns" that have two electrodes on them that you touch to someone?
  18. Thanks for clearing that up. I know there are specific ways some phrases are to be read, so that's what I was wondering. In that case, doesn't seem like they did too bad of a job on outlining how the law is to be applied.
  19. This law is more about family members and others being able to have firearms removed from unstable individuals. In theory, it could save lives, but the drawback is that it could open to abuse. Section 2 (4) of the bill has a list of factors the court should consider, which seems reasonable. The PDF is here. I'm not sure if "shall consider" is the same as "must meet one of the following conditions," though. Granted, the latter is too strict, but could be worded to allow for some discretion on the court's part, I think. Wife's bugging me, no time to read the entire thing. It certainly seems like a good idea and well-intentioned, but also worth serious vetting.
  20. Perhaps "childish" would have been the better word. When our politics is one step short of monkeys flinging poo at each other, I worry a bit for our future.
  21. I should probably point out that I don't condone the idiocy in the article, and that I was mocking it. And that I can't resist a bad pun.
