  1. Re: Surgical Sterility Field

    I first thought of CE actually. But Change Environment only provides penalties. What would I penalize to create a sterile field? "-4 to bacterial growth"?

    good point

    LS: Diseases works as medications, but if it's only in a hospital room (Area Effect) the character's illness will return as soon as he leaves sick bay. Furthermore, an bacterial or viral infection is not a disease and I see no reason LS: All Terrestrial Diseases will prevent that.

    Isn't that the point? It's a sterility field to create a clean surgical/treatment area, right? LS: All Terrestrial Diseases includes viral or bacterial infections, don't get too caught up in word semantics.

    Changing my version to "Only Effects Harmful Bacteria and Germs" is a good idea; although I thought it would clearly affect surface germs anyway. If it can't penetrate the skin of a human it obviously can't kill bacteria inside.

    Thanks for the input. :)

    The problem I have with this, unless your game differs here, is that most diseases in Hero are created not as creatures with BOD stats but as Drains. In which case, a RKA will not effect them.

    What about a Dispel vs. Drains, Only Against Harmful Bacteria & Germs?

  2. Re: Computers In Star Hero

    I'm not a big fan of the VPP for a lot of things

    I like the idea of a multipower with set slots for the programs you have loaded

    so there are limits on just how much you can have running at once

    even an AI has its limits, at least in my universe.

    It is an interesting approach depending on what type of tech you want

    I also dont allow VPP for sensor arrays, they are hardwired and installed when the ship is built, but you cant just decide yesterdays meson comm link is a tachyon beam dictator or Hyperpulse generator.

    but I grew up with old school traveller and space opera, and old habits die hard

    Then what type of sensors do you use, since each ship is limited to a set list?

  3. Re: Non-standard mythologies

    Versions of the greek and norse abound, but they are easy to identify.

    Major personality traits, rough powers/abilities, and spheres of influence of the Greek or Norse gods are easy to find.

    Making sense of the names and spheres of influence of...the egyptian gods is harder. Horus, Ra, Amon-Ra, and Helieos are all gods of the sun.

    This is why you see less egyptian gods.

  4. Re: Non-standard mythologies

    Greek mythology has well documented spheres of control and personalities for the gods and heroes. it is very easy to find information.

    Norse mythology is a good runner-up on those points.

    Egyptian mythology has a lot of overlap between the gods.

    Celtic myth is hard to find useful information on. Pantheon.org requires a lot of footwork for a project like this.

  5. Re: Power Armor EC Question

    What is wrong with MPs or VPPs for magic or mystical powers? I would think they would be more effective. :drink:

    .

    I see nothing wrong with it.

    My take is:

    Multi-Power :: no restrictions on theme or power types, just so long as they can be "classified" as one power. Remember, MP's get dispelled as a unit. But Power Armor, Arrows, Optic Blasts, Fire Creation, Magic, Telepathy are all good MP SFX.

    Elemental Control :: must have a widely recognized list of powers. the powers in an EC should require no explanation as to how they fit there. Good examples include weather control, fire powers, ice powers, elemental, demonic, classic power armor, classic super brick, telepathy, telekinesis, or matter control.

    Variable Power Pool :: good for any SFX that can justify a sizable portion of the power list or vast reworkings of type and modifiers. Gadgeteer, Armory, Magic, Cosmic, Mimicry, and Metamorph are good examples

  6. Re: Blown Away...

    Boy, you guys are amazing. I Love this forum.

    Most other RPG forums I've seen would just tell the guy...

    "You're stupid. That can't work because blah blah, and blah de blah and blee de dee. Just sit down and don't make waves."

    While I certainly agree with Shrike, the Champions Universe is already an amalgamated DC/Marvel setting... very much so, you guys still never fail to come up with a whole slew of cool ideas.

    Just thought I'd take a moment to say that.

    Thanks...ZenStorm, however you are being ticketed for not giving humantorch101 or myself any helpful suggestions.

    And yes, while Champions Universe default does tribute DC and Marvel, many of the tributes are drastically altered. In fact, many heroes in comics proper are villains in Champions

    Fantastic Four = Terror Inc

    Professor Muerte = Reed as Dr Doom

    Giganto = Thing

    Feur = Human Torch

    Scorpia = Invisible Woman

    PSI = X-Men turned evil

    Viperia = Supergirl/Power Girl

  7. Re: Building a DC/Marvel Amalgam Universe

    For my own purposes i am gonna go through the published characters for 5th edition champs and state if they are being used and describe any changes made in basic terms.

    I'm doing this as well, for my Champions Universe setting. I'm also trying to mirror/tribute comic characters. I don't have the 5th Champions sourcebook, just the 4th BBB and Classic Enemies. So most of my heroes are new

    So far I have...

    Victor (Superman tribute)

    Nighthawk (Batman)

    Patriot (Captain America)

    Defender (Iron Man) from BBB

    Amazing Man (Elongated Man)

    Prodigy (Mr Terrific II)

    Phantasm (Shadowcat)

    Troll (Thing)

    Firehawk (Human Torch/Firehawk)

    Solitaire (Zatanna) from BBB

    Hercules (Hercules)

    Quantum (Firestorm) from BBB

    I'm not sure about the 5th Champions, since i haven't seen the sourcebook but I might track it down. Also not sure what other comic characters I want to tribute as heroes.

  8. Re: Power Armor EC Question

    What about Speed ECs? :jawdrop:

    If a player could give me a Classic Speedster list of powers. The two most iconic speedsters in comics, the Flash and Quicksilver have totally different powers. The traditional Flash power set is not conducive to a EC, I built him on a multi-power.

    I'd accept "Classic Super-Brick" with Strength, Constitution, Armor/FF, Flight, Energy Blast.

    Electrical Bob is fine. Mutant Bob I would say no. Mutant Bob, Master of Weather is fine. Mutant Bob, Master Of Electrics is a yes (can teleport by way of conductive surfaces ... sure, why not!). Battlesuit Bob in no. Magic Ring Bob is no as well. Magic Talisman Bob same as Magic Ring Bob. Technogeek Bob is no but should look as VPPs

    So what your really saying is that EC's in your campaign are not available for a good theme: classic power armor, classic super-brick, weather control, fire control, telekinesis....if the character wants to limit the EC via a focus?

    What is the difference between EC: Classic Power Armor, OIF (- 1/2) and Fire Creation, Not in Water/Vacuum (- 1/4), Activation Roll 15- (- 1/4)?

  9. Re: one question...

    well, any attack (eb, rka, ha, str) is just a means of delivering stun and body damage. i focus on what fits the character concept and i have my own range markers based on the 4th ed BBB commentary of the mechanics of combat and math of stats.

    For example, it stated that average defense should be 2x maximum dc and max defense should be 2 1/2x maximum dc. Thus in your game (9 DC max) the average def should be 18 and the max def should be 23. I run a 12 dc game with an average def of 24 and a max def of 30. These numbers do not reflect special attacks or defenses.

    As for spicing up the game....

    1) character -- villains and supporting cast don't die or disappear often. thus rivalries, fueds, and recurring characters are a staple feature. make your players look forward to crossing swords with evilvillainman again.

    2) continuity -- i publish a "newspaper" (which is basically headlines and 3-4 sentinces) so the major supporting cast and villains can establish a history, sub-plots can be introduced, and the campaign world can reflect on the characters. in one campaign, the editorial feature on our group was actually written by the secret id of one of the players (a shazam type multi-form); it created havoc when his id was exposed to the group. "you called me an idiot!", "what do you mean i have no sense of tactics?", "if you don't like my piloting, you fly the jet"

    3) nifty places to fight -- in super heroics, you can fight almost anywhere. We've pitched battles in city streets, undersea bases, starships in deep space, floating platforms high above the city, university campus's, and villain bases. be creative

  10. Re: Building a DC/Marvel Amalgam Universe

    You've Forgotten another team Archetype: the POWR PACK type team;

    consisting of preadolescent superheroes,preferably siblings of a family receiving powers from an dying alien.

    The "pre-adolescent" or "young hero" genre is typified by the Titans. Power Pack is not archtypical
