Re: The Perfect Alibi
If she's possessing someone else to commit these crimes, does she have any powers besides the skill and abilities of the person being possessed?Doc
Yes. Mental Powers have no range. You just need to be able to target. She has access to ALL of her mental powers while possessing a host.

Re: How to handle Posession as a power?
With a possesion power there are several effects which are often displayed, and could be incorperated as some kind of adder.I like the idea of adders. Let's consider this in the proper HERO frame of mechanics and effect. Possession often takes a few forms:
Type 1 -- Psi possesses target's body and own body remains in a coma-like state.
(this is essentially Mind Control with Zero DCV Concentration)
Type 2 -- Psi possesses target's body and own body merges with target.
Type 3 -- Psi possesses target's body and target's mind is transfered into Psi's body.
Type 1 would be typical of most telepaths using the astral form mode, Karma (New Mutants) is the best example of this.
Type 2 is what most of us are looking for, Jericho (Titans) is the main example
Type 3 is a rare spin, Dr Doom (FF) is a good example of this
So let's consider what i've labeled Type 2 and Type 3.
I) Psi gains control of target's body [given]
II) Psi merges with target's body, cannot be separately targeted [given]
III) Psi retains own skills [given]
IV) Psi is able to use all physical powers of the target [given]
V) Psi is able to use physical skills of the target [given]
VI) Psi retains own mental or mystic powers [adder +10]
VII) Psi suffers damage if the target does [feedback as per Force Wall?]
VIII) Psi is able to "ride" target, leaving target in control [adder +10]
IX) Psi can use target's INT skills [adder +5] and/or PRE skills [adder +5]
X) Target is/is not aware of actions while possessed (adds to target EGO when determining effect roll needed; as with mind control)
XI) Target is transfered to Psi's body (+/- 0)
Examples
The fallen, instant possesion supplants will with full access to skills memories and keeps his own abilities( and alot more ), no physical body dies if host dies.
VI, VII, IX, X
Vampire dominate 5, telepathy based possesion, possesors will suplants hosts no access to skills memories, .
VI
Jericho -- full access to all physical abilities of target, no mental/social abilities
VI, VIII
Doctor Doom -- body switching
VI, XI
Questions whose dex do you use, spd?
I'd use the target's DEX & SPD, but the Psi's EGO
My view is that possesion is sufficiently different to warent its own power with adders, alot of other builds mentioned seem clunky especially if they rely on Mental transform or edm ( though i can see lthe logic i just hate transform as a problem solving tool)
I'd agree. I'd say 10 pts per 1d6, with the above adders available. Feedback as a possible limit (including damage and possibly death if target dies while possessed)
Target can challenge each phase for control (Psi ejected if Target wins Ego roll or contest). +1/4 to move Breakout Roll down time chart one step
This power is stronger than mind control but not enough to justify 15 per d6

Re: Stretching Question
Spidermans webs are used for swinging, can he grab with these swinglines. he does this all the time as does batman, if not why not?Im hard pressed to think of SFX for swinglines that does not allow you to grab a target and pull them with your inate str.
If this has to be bought as limited streaching then whats the point of swinging?
Answers appreciated cos its bugged me for years
Swinging and Stretching are separate powers.
Spider-Man's web-shooters are far more than just swinging. Properly designed, they would be a multi-power including swinging, stretching, entangle, flash v sight, energy blast, gliding, and force wall
Batman uses several devices with his cable lines, some for swinging and some for grabbing. he also uses different types of line

Re: How to handle Posession as a power?
In the 5th HERO Beastiary, the Ghost write-up uses Mind Control with the limitation "Must Merge with Target" at - 3/4. I'm not sure if it is relevant that the ghost is also desolid

Re: Star wars Hero campaign thoughts
I'm thinking of starting a star wars hero campaign and was brainstorming some ideas:150 pt, 75 from disads.
seems good to me
The Force: A fixed slot multipower, no charges allowed
I use a multi-power, but allow some to be multi-slots. For example, telekinesis, telepathy, or lightsabre combat can be multi; but concentration (extra skill levels), running, or leaping are ultra slots, so i can limit the power levels there
Weapons: Blasters- straight EB's, bought with money
Slugthrowers- RKA's, bought with money
Lightsabers-EKA's with penetrating, character must pay points for, allowed to be used as a wepon element for Martial Arts
I use EB's of 4-7 dice for most pistols and hunting blasters; I use RKA's for military carbines, rifles, and heavy blasters to represent the seriousness of military hardware and the manner in which most people go down with one hit from a rifle or carbine in the movies regardless of location. Any blaster can be optionally made stun only (ANH: "shot to stun")
Hit locations used
I'll think of more...Thoughts?
I agree on hit locations, if you want, i can email you my equipment lists and alien species conversions. BTW, for lightsabre's I use a 4d6 RKA, No Range, x2 AP

Re: The Perfect Alibi
I look forward to subjecting future players to this.

Re: The Perfect Alibi
Or' date=' of course, just take bodyjacking with limitations to represent the limited range of people you can use this on. The latter two options are especially neat if you could "pass" yourself from one horse to another mid-heist.[/quote']Not a bad idea, of course I don't have the spirit rules. Although I noticed in the 5th Hero Beastiary the Ghost write-up uses Mind Control, Must Merge with Target's Body (- 3/4). Is this legal?
BTW, could a possessed person be convicted for actions performed under Mind Control?

Re: Other Super Hero RPGs as Sources
I just picked up the Algernon Files and I am using some of it. I need to track down Conquerers, Killers, Crooks though
-
Re: The Perfect Alibi
I've been leaning towards the followers, too. Just wasn't sure if this was the legal way to do it
-
Re: Villains, Vandals, and Vermin: Who should be in it?
I don't have Conquerors, Crooks, and Killers (or whatever) so I don't have a list of who is in there.
But of the names i've seen here Power Crusher and Rainbow Archer are must haves
-
I'm updating a mentalist for my Champions campaign. I want her to be able to avoid conviction by keeping a small group of conditioned people that she possesses when acting in her villainous identity. Thus, the actual villain is never arrested or put on trial.
Would this best be done via duplication? or possession and a number of followers.

Re: Lack of Power coverage
Absorption -- I've considered a + 3/4 advantage Defensive. I think buying linked armor (at now a - 1/4) a bulky way to do things.
Shape Shift -- the pay for senses thing doesn't strike me as quite right.
Instant Change -- seems bulky bundled into Shape Shift.
Possession/Bodyjacking
Clinging -- variable terrain; flight surface only is bulky to just be able to run up a wall or over water. +5 to 10 adder?

Re: The Harmons endure!
For such a long lasting family....what do we know of them? How many Harmons are there? Where do they get their money? What schools do they attend? Which megacorporation do the run the world through?

Re: Star (WARS) Hero?
The nutshell of what I did:
vehicle write-ups in short hand (that I am slowly converting to 5th rules), a weapons list, packages for 12 most common alien races, basic equipment list, cybernetic implants conversion, force powers conversion, rough templates for imperial soliders of all types.
I took a more realistic approach. Blaster Pistols/Hunting Blasters are EBs, Military grade weaponry are RKA to simulate the one shot fall effect best. Oh, and I went with Storm Troopers that can whup rear

Re: Star (WARS) Hero?
Yes....I ran a campaign for most of a year in HERO. What are you looking for?
-
Re: European Enemies...
I sift through all the HERO games characters in the books I possess and find uses for them or ditch them. I'll usually modify before using in 95% of characters.
-
Re: Scans
I want images of the characters I use in my campaign sans the write-up/label and was hoping to skip the money/effort of doing that myself. Was not thinking about posting rules. Oops.
Mostly common people...the Champions, many characters that were in Classic Enemies, the Zodiac.
But speaking of which....does anyone have a list of the side art people

Re: New PRIMUS teams
With the recent increase in metahuman crime, PRIMUS has been given permission to form superhero teams for all its bases. Four cities with PRIMUS bases have been chosen for the first teams. One is the campaign city. I'd love to use Pittsburgh, but I can't think of a good reason for PRIMUS to set up a base here. Any ideas? If I don't have a good reason to use Pittsburgh, I'll use Las Vegas.Good idea.
Would the team be based at the local PRIMUS headquarters or their own base?
Well...from a logical point, would the government find it easier to expand the PRIMUS base to accomodate heroes or build an entirely new structure? I'd say expand.
Would any agents be assigned to work full time with them?
Almost definately. Probably a liaison/team director, doctor, and maybe a dedicated field team.
If they have their own base, what, if any, support staff members would be from PRIMUS?
see above

Re: Bashing people with chairs, lightpoles, automobiles...
For example, let's assume we decide that an object has 6 DEF and 4 BOD, and adds 2d6 damage. If a normal human swings it, it will do 2d6 (10 STR) + 2d6 (object bonus). If Grond swings it at 90 STR, it will do the lesser of 18d6 (STR) amnd 10d6 (DEF + BOD), so 10d6, plus its 2d6 object bonus = 12d6. And the force of a 90 STR swong will break it. Swung at 50 STR, it will still do 12d6 - this is the optimal swing.right...and where does the 2d6 come from? is it a GM freebie?
SD: re paying points - I'm not sure whether I'd agree or disagree at this point.
One of my players has a habit (with several of his characters) of stealing other people's foci or grabbing items of opportunity (guns, bats, chairs, cars) and so I need to consider that.
Thanks for some great comments, guys. I need to remember to summarize this thread when it's over with so I have these comments for my campaign in future.
You going to post the summarized version so we can save ourselves the work?

Re: Building a DC/Marvel Amalgam Universe
I have a campaign going on this premise. We run off a 15 year timeline charting the most important characters and events involved. The major NPC teams have thought out line ups that combine universes.
For example, Captain Atom and Zatanna are Avengers. The Warriors are a team combining members from the New Warriors and the Outsiders. Give me a couple days, i'll post it
