  1. Re: A "The West Wing" Secret Service question, version 2.0 Ahh, I was thinking the PCs were among the cast of characters already discussed. You're looking for plot ideas with this cast of NPCs then?
  2. Re: A "The West Wing" Secret Service question, version 2.0 Who are the PCs?
  3. Re: A "The West Wing" Secret Service question, version 2.0
  4. Re: A "The West Wing" Secret Service question, version 2.0 Unless there is credible immediate threat reporting, the First Lady and VP's wife wouldn't need to be wearing vests.
  5. Re: A "The West Wing" Secret Service question, version 2.0 Well Zoey would have a detail assigned, for sure. One agent would be by her side at all times, and ring/stage-side when she was performing. Abbey, being the First Lady, would also have her own detail with her, even while working at the hospital. The Secret Service would also have a detail for Maria. With Jed's condition, part of any travel would involve a specialist on hand, at all times. With suitable facilities either on hand, or on stand-by at the nearest hospital(s). If the farm is more than an hour's drive away from a hospital, there would be a medically equipped helicopter on hand. C.J, being the Press Sec, wouldn't have anything inordinate, possibly a detail assigned if there was any credible threat reporting. But being a Slayer she can most likely handle herself in most situations the Secret Service would actually be able to help with. I don't find a Kathy in the continuity site I found, what's her role in the staff? I also might think that being Slayers, if their combat skills were known, they'd be sent through the Service's Personal Protection course, and either become full or deputized agents. Carol, Bonnie, Ginger, Nancy, and Toby all have Secretarial positions, and would also only get a personal detail under situations involving credible threats to their person. If their magic was deemed a usable asset, they might be tasked to ward certain areas of the First Families' secondary residence, as well as the sensitive areas of the White House. They would probably also be asked to either train an agent or three, or switch careers... Protection, Detection, and Warding spells would be in high demand. Also, if the Secret Service had not been previously aware of these types of threats, Toby would find himself teaching an endless series of classes to educate agents on effective recognition and combative techniques against the various flavor of the occult. She would probably get her own detail as well, if anything just due to her nature as a magnet for Weird Things. Her Watcher would be brought into the fold as well, probably trained in Personal Protection. Anything I missed? I've never dealt with the Secret Service specifically, just the field, so I'm just making general guesses as to their MO. But I've studied PPD work and Executive Protection, and I've also seen the entire run of Buffy on DVD! Sounds like an interesting campaign.
  6. Re: Answers & Questions Q. Who put all these scratches in my new wooden floor?! A. Umm.....Steve did it....
  7. Re: The President has a cronic medical condition Executive Protection is a whole lot more detailed than most people realize. The Secret Service sends teams weeks, sometimes months, in advance to locations they know the President or Vice will be traveling to. They map routes to local hospitals, they visit those hospitals and interview emergency staff, they check the inventories on the hospitals to make sure they have the appropriate equipment on hand in case something goes down. They would make sure there were ramps into and out of every place he would be visiting, they would ensure the vehicles they were using would accommodate his cane/chair, to include rapid entry/exit. They would have helicopters standing by in several locations, all equipped to handle his modes of movement, i.e. ramps in place to allow quick entry. There would be doctors in both the lead and follow cars in any motorcade, with fully equipped kits in the trucks of all the vehicles. They would have specially dedicated stores of the presidents blood type stored in several locations throughout the area, local hospitals, on Air Force 1, etc. I could go on for pages and pages about the preparations involved in a thorough Executive Protection advance. But the short answer is, yes, they most definitely would make special arrangements for his illness, including some that would seem absurdly unnecessary.
  8. Re: Fighting Techniques of the Middle Ages: anyone read this? I lived in Harrogate for a while and really enjoyed visiting the different armories around the UK. Though sadly I never caught one of those displays at Leeds
  9. Re: Half-Move and Sweep Although Two Weapon Fighting doesn't actually reduce the time taken for Sweep. It just gives benefits to fighting with two-weapons. Rapid Attack + TWF is pretty nice though. It amounts to having a whole extra attack every phase, with only a -2 DCV penalty (down from the 1/2 DCV normally associated with using Sweep). Two Weapon Fighting Skill (5ER. pg 73) Rapid Attack Skill (5ER. pg 68)
  10. Re: Total Newbie Here; prospective HERO-er I've been lurking on these boards and learning the HERO system for a few months now and I have to say, Hero Designer was the best thing I could have gotten after the main rulebook. While it sucks it's the price of another whole book, I have found it completely invaluable in the conversions I've been writing and in playing with character creation to learn the mechanics.
  11. Re: Malazan Books of the Fallen HERO Definitely more like Black Company. It has a lot of High Fantasy elements that Song does not have. I have only read the first two, even though I own all 5 available in the States. They're a good read for any fan of the genre I'd say.

    Duo

Re: Duo There is a bit in UMA on page 119 about using the Aid power in an Array. Seems like exactly what you're looking for. Basically it's Aid bought with restrictions based on the proximity of the partner/group. The example they use is increasing Dex Only For Increasing OCV and DCV (-1/4) but with the same principle you could apply it to any power, even make it apply to a Multipower that they both take, to represent the powers they have that work best when together. Hope that helps.
