I watched GLOW on Netflix..loosely based on/inspired by the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling of the 80s early nineties...

I really enjoyed it, which surprised me. The characters are flawed, very flawed, but not the level where I didn't care if they lived or died (Honestly at times fiction tries to push too hard for the 'flawed' where they become such colossal monsters I want them to die... in fire..and that's the protagonists) . Rather I winced, groaned, got invested, smiled at improvements, sympathized a little or a lot... and laughed at some of the comedy interlaced..which could veer towards dark and certainly crude. It has an excellent cast, and even the 'side characters' have moments that flesh them out beautifully.

Biggest thing I remember about watching GLOW in the 80s was one of the girls (Hollywood or Vine, iirc) trying to do a splash off top rope, but being very few had any real training, landing completely wrong and breaking her arm, clearly.

Since it is on right after New Japan Pro Wrestling on AXS channel, I am trying to watch WOW (Women of Wrestling). Not bad, not great. Probably more soap operaish then would like, also to much back story from before hit AXS with certain wrestlers and probably not as athletic as it should be. Not sure why a group like this can't get some of the really athletic girls that are castoffs of WWE and whoever else is out there.

Only a couple months left until we see if Western film makers can capture the feel of the kaiju genre....or if we have another dud. The trailer is extremely promising, but then...so was the trailer for G2014. I'm definitely excited to see it though. Can't get enough kaiju in my life....

I really liked the 2014 one.

  3. Saw Battle Angel Alita. Decent live action anime. From reading Wikipedia I get the impression they condensed a lot.

The previews showed Godzilla-can't wait, and apparently they are remaking dirty rotten scoundrels with Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson, though it is called something different. Also a remake of pet cemetery.

  4. I think would be interesting if you had Flash or Diana asking Afleck - how did you get started doing this and him telling the tale like a year one,  with a younger version of him during it. gives some continuity and lets them transition to new actor.

Having said that, them getting away from the Frank MIller stuff isnt a bad idea. I really liked his stuff, the returns and year one, but WB gets to fascinated with his dark morale versions of things.

Oh man, I loved that stuff! Johnny Quest is the go to for Action entertainment! I also like the Herculoids, the  Hoyt Curtin’s Music cues just shout “excitement!” To me.

Continuing in a cartoon vein.I have been watching Three Below”, the next series of Guillermo Del Toro’s Arcadia Trilogy.  A coup de etat occurs on a distant planet, The prince and Princess of the deposed aristocracy glee with their protector and the crystals of their parent, to a low tech back water called Earth. They crash land in/near the town of Arcadia Oaks, a town in the middle of the last season of Troll Hunters.  Meanwhile, the general that instigated the coup realizes he does not have the Royal Heirs, and so dispatches Bounty Hunters, The Zeron Brotherhood. To collect them. An acquaintance of mine, did the design of the Zeron Brotherhood, and when they are on scree, the show changes from a kid’s show, to an action thriller.

wait, the deposed aristocracy are a bunch of high school singing club? (yes, I know what you meant, but autofills make me laugh, one of the best parts of Ralph Wrecks the Internet is the over aggressive auto fill).

  6. I would also say that, and maybe this goes with the impatience, that WB never gave Johns the power Feige has enjoyed once Iron Man came out and was successful. As a matter of fact, they seemed to hand the reins over to Snyder instead. They didnt seem to learn that Feige may have been the big in charge, but he didn't direct/write the movies, but seemed to for the most part let the talent do what they do and made changes only for "continuity" for his plan rather then say, NO, DO IT MY WAY most of the time.

Ray Greer, said of him, while he negotiated the  cover for the Champions book, that George was a very nice gut to work with. And those issues of Teen Titans were some of the few DC titles we picked up back in high school. His positive attitude will be missed.

Yeah, he is one of the few I would look at a comic because he was involved.

Also, did George say how the rest of him was to work with, or only discussed things with him when they ate? (sorry, couldn't resist)

Speaking of which, the next installment in the DCEU has been announced--Speed Flash, a gritty look into the life of an angst-ridden superhero forced into illegal amphetamine use first to cope with his powers, then to keep them going.  The iconic red costume will be updated as a black leather S&M bodysuit with studs, and the soundtrack will feature a lot of thrash metal.

Of course I'm kidding... or am I?!

Wait, isn't that basically what Marvel did to Speedball following Civil War? Including the S&M suit.

  9. PKD may be one of the few that there has not been a faithful translation, though I would say the spirit was kept, and I enjoyed both the movies and the short stories they were based on (Total Recall (first one, not remake), Paycheck, Blade Runner, Minority Report, Scanner Darkly, Screamers, Adjustment Bureau). Its kind of a unique situation.

  10. Watched the most recent NJPW event from January. They showed 3 matches (Cody vs Juice Robinson for US Championship(iirc), Jericho vs Naito for intercontinental championship and Omega vs Tanahashi for Heavyweight Championship). The matches were good, but it became obvious by nights end that they were setup to dump the titles held by those joining All Elite Wrestling (which could be a really good federation, I just hated seeing NJPW use a MAJOR event to do this) to NJPW wrestlers, so Juice, Naito and Tanahashi all won. The one I was probably most disappointed with result was the last one. I fully expected a full circle of Okada regaining the belt with a new finisher and personally feel, as good as Tanahashi is, his time has passed and they were doing this whole storyline of him disliking foreigners, which is really unlike the character he has been. I assume sometime soon, he will lose to Okada.

Also, started watching Titan Games with the Rock. Is fun, kind of the anti American Ninja Warrior, more about strength and endurance then, for lack of a better term, mountain climbing hand strength. And Rock is great about making fun of himself, which works and the 2 normal announcers aren't overly annoying.

    Hitman agent 47

ironic isn't it how the character was portrayed by an actor named 'friend' when an assassin cannot risk HAVING friends

I actually liked both Hitman movies that have been made, but then Olga Kurylenko is a crush of mine and I like Oliphant (still wish they had done more with his Phantom) so the first might be because of that.

  12. Lets be honest, DC was on the wrong track as soon as Clark let his dad die instead of saying screw the consequences and saving him. At least in most histories of dupes, it's a heart attack that takes dad and part of his character is, I couldn't save him, but I will save everyone I can. Granted that was Snyder trying to change who Clark was in canon, but sheesh.

Comparing that to Spidey letting the crook go, I like to think if that crook had been putting someone in immediate danger, he would have nabbed him. Snyder's superman apparently wouldn't have if as a teen it would have given him away.
