  1. Re: A nore reasonable option A hovercraft doesn't make much distinction between land and water. And more importantly, they're not known for braking performance.
  2. Re: A nore reasonable option In practical terms, I'd want a roll cage. I bet it's not terribly difficult to flip.
  3. Re: A nore reasonable option Oo, nice!
  4. Re: Parallel Universe Star Wars Depends on when he wanted to reveal himself. Of course with Bail Organa looking after Leia, he may well have gone into exile with Yoda and only emerged when she came of age. With Ob-Wan on the case, the ship may never have been caught. We never really got to see the old man in action. Leia's not the most patient person, either. I wouldn't be surprised if the extra power made her more rash.
  5. Re: Parallel Universe Star Wars That could be interesting. Anakin may have been hailed as a hero or condemned as an assassin, depending on whether the Jedi could convince the Senate that Palpatine was evil. With no Order 66, the Jedi would remain in control of the clones unless removed by the Senate. Anakin would rise in the esteem of the Jedi Council and perhaps convince them to remain in power? Then he seeks to control the Jedi personally, eventually resulting in an Empire with Jedi enforcers, while renegade Jedi oppose them. Obi-Wan goes into hiding on Alderaan? After her planet is destroyed, Leia is rescued by Kenobi. ANH plays out as before, but Kenobi fires the shot that destroys the Death Star. Then he trains her as a Jedi. Without the Tatooine connection, Han and Chewie remain smugglers on the run and Lando remains as leader of Cloud City. The Jedi Empire one is distinct enough to be entertaining, plus it's chock full of Force users.

  7. Re: More cross-genre goodiness: The Predator vs. a Jedi Depends on whether the Jedi guys have actual sticks to fight with, and whether the Predator guys are actually seven feet tall.

  11. Re: Physics of space battles - gizmodo article I'm pretty sure we're saying the same thing.

  17. Re: More cross-genre goodiness: The Predator vs. a Jedi I don't know about the average Jedi - General Grievous took out a few, though presumably with help - but I'd pick any of the hero Jedi over a Predator any day. The Predator might put up a good fight, but seriously, it's essentially a foregone conclusion.
  18. Re: Physics of space battles - gizmodo article A large missile leaving the ship, even slowly, imparts movement in the opposite direction.

  20. Re: "Neat" Pictures Man oh man, would I love to have one of those in my backyard! I'd pay hundreds for such a system.
  21. Re: Are single climate/habitat worlds really possible? So volcanism alone would create a more even heat distribution across the surface? That sounds feasible, though I wonder if a planet's internal heat by itself would be sufficient to put its surface (or near-surface) in a temperature zone that's amenable to humans. Isn't much of Europa's internal heat presumed to be driven by tidal forces from Jupiter? Maybe if it was young enough to retain the heat of its formation? You could also load its interior with vast quantities of radioactive material. I have no idea how those numbers shake out.
