  1. Er, so you're saying that this dragon-folk person can hit me harder with their wing than they can with their arm?

It's not out of the question actually. The muscels that work the wing are in the chest. In essence, they flap with their pectorals. Think there's a lot of meat in a drumstick? Try a breast! I was reading an article on "what if humans had wings". They ran some rudimentary numbers, and figured that, in order to fly, humans would need a chest six feet deep. My angels won't be that busty. They just have super-muscles!

For Reference, Swans hit predators and critters that get too close to their nest with their wings. They can break a man's arm in one strike.

In case anyone was interested, here's my final writeup.

    Penna Albatus

Multipower (20 point Reserve -1/2 all restrainable:13 real points )

    1u Advolo Flying 10" (-1/2 Restrainable) 13 real points

    1f Praelabor Gliding 6" (-1/2 Restrainable) 4 real points

1u Advolo Pronus Flying 9" (-1/2 Restrainable; -1 Only to stoop) 7 real points

1u Penna Attingo Stretching 1" (+1/2 No End) (-1/2 Restrainable; -1/4 Always Direct; -1/4 No Velocity Damage; -1/4 No Noncombat Stretching; -1/4 Only to cause Damage) 3 Real Points

    Plus

Extra Limbs (-1/2, extremely limited manipulation) 3 Real Points

    Plus

    1d6 HA (-1/4 Linked) 4 Real Points

    Total Cost: 24 Points

Recomended: Power Skill (use Wings), to allow for various tricks.

By way of explanation, I always set HA as costing 5 points even (STR is 1.5 per pip). Also, while it's clearly against the rules, The Stooping can Add to the Flying (besides, 13 points plus 7 = 20)

All the languages in my campaign are just real world languages, saving effort on my part. I was going to make the Angels speak Hebrew, but I could only find dictionaries with the hebrew word in hebrew characters, so these angels speak latin.

Using this forum as an indicator, I better not use the sexless bit. my angles will be altered people, but will retain their bits and pieces.

  2. 30pts Dragon-Folk Wings: Multipower, 30 Point Reserve

    2u (1) Flying (3 END): 15" Flight, Restrainable (-1/2)

    1u (2) Wing Buffet: HA + 2d6, Hand-to-Hand Attack (-1/2)

Yes, but that HA has no range. I conceptualized these guys as having a 15+ ft. wingspan, so they have the equivalent of 1" stretching. Which is where my question came in. Good catch though, I'd forgotten the Dragon folk writeup.

This whole snipping of parts thing is pretty creepy. Now, are these people who are turned into angels? I'm getting the feeling this is creepier than all get-out. But you know, if they're passionless, maybe the whole Las Vegas thing has to go out the window.

Hmmmm, this is making a surprising number of people uncomfortable. Maybe I should make them people who went to heaven and come back through the corps, and are issued "passionless" bodies. When they feel a little anxious, they can go back to the divine realms and whatever significant other they have there. I'm not sure, but I'll give it some thought. After all, in the medieval era, this wasn't especially uncommon. In italy, they'd castrate choir boys so they'd never lose their angelic voices (they didn't have much say in the matter).

  3. I'm taking a lot of inspiration from the "Engel" Game that White wolf put out. I don't want to use the whole game, as the dystopia it depicted is just too gloomy for my gaming preferences.

My angles are people who, as children, were donated to the church (polytheistic fantasy campaign, btw). The ones who qualified entered the Angelic Choir. They underwent a series of surguries, giving them wings, snipping their parts and passions, and granting them immortality and other divine gifts.

  4. I don't think that Hollywood is a good place to look for angels. I think those movies probably feature angels with their johnsons intact. But if that is the kind of angel you are trying to model, then definitely add something about Las Vegas shows, since at least some of those movies feature angels doing a dance. Maybe even a PS: Dancer or KS: Dancing and an AK: Las Vegas

No, its not, your seduction bit just made me think of those movies. I don't know if they'd have a dancer skill. They would have a singing skill, though I'll leave that under 'recomended' for any players taking it.

Come to think of it, The jehovahs witnesses talk about some angels that came down and impregnated a bunch of women. I don't really buy that line, but then I'm not a Jehovahs witness.

Not sure how this jibes with the whole "Holy" thing, but there's gotta be a way to model it in the package deal.

Again, "Distinctive Features". Come see the angel, what a spectacle! He has features! and they're distinctive!

  6. Nah, that's not nearly strong enough, you have to make sure they don't date or anything too. I mean, they're angels. What are they going to do? Try to convince a woman to go to second base?

Ever seen "City of Angels"? Or "The Preachers Wife"? Or "Dogma"?

  7. *thinks of things wings can do* How about using it like a an umbrella to repell sun and rain? Sounds like a variant of life support. Usable by others so earthly companions can stay dry too.

It may be prudent to advise players to take a power skill for that very purpose.

  8. I was making an Angel package deal. Among other things, they have wings, so I slapped on the Wing multipower used on raptors in the bestiary (Gliding and Flying). Now, those aren't bought as extra limbs, although they do have limb special effects and a restrainable dissadvantage.

Looking at the construct it occurs to me that these angels have at least a 15 foot wingspan, sometimes more. If I had wings like that, I'd make like a swan and hit people with them. Now, for long limbs, its recomended we use stretching, inherent and always on. However, that applies to limbs bought as limbs. Is it applicable to powers with a wing special effect?

While I'm on the subject, what other wing based powers have been concocted? I might as well make good use of the multipower.

  9. Nice idea Chuckg (the transform)

The fiat thing would work, but then how many points would a cleric have to spent to take it? (he writes scripture for everyone. Sort of the opposite of medieval bibles) The transform does have a point worth, so I'll go with it.

  10. So Emergency Rations have a required Ego Roll to ingest initially, and a Constitution roll every hour to keep down. Fun.

You forgot one of the benefits of the MRE's. If you know what you're doing, you can turn the heating pack into an explosive. Not extremely powerful, of course, but we all know of applications for small explosives in just the right places.

  11. They could be the ultimate 'Cranky Old Lady Next Door'!

"Keep those thrusters DOWN! We're trying to keep cool!"

"But we're a full A.U. away from you!"

"Why you disrespectfull . . . Fire up the Mag-Cannon!"

  12. This sounds like an object that would use the independant disadvantage, unless the talisman can be recharged.

Is its fade rate based on how much it is used? If so, throw on an edurance reserve. If you want use of the talisman to tax the operator, add a limitation that says it taxes both the reserve and the operator equally. You could, of course, use the X2 END limitation, With an advantage "Half is paid for by end Reserve" but the first option seems more elegant.

If it is simply a matter of time before it runs out, (this will have power for 1 month. each day it will grow weaker), it sounds like a job for the time chart. If the talisman is only good for one phase, its a -2 limitation. It is worth -1/4 less as a limitation each move up the time chart. make the fade rate work like Gradual Effect, only backwards.

  13. Star Hero might help you. It specified other possible chemistry that might be present in other life forms, as opposed to our hydrocarbon base. Several of them might be of help, Such as Liquid Helium. *Thinks* Actually, I'm not sure if pluto is cold enough for liquid helium. I'll have to check. It also mentioned liquid methane base, and an ammonia base. I think. Star hero is at home.

  14. How would you create a text which is Readable by Anyone. Never even mastered the alphabet? Not a problem! Speak a non-indoeuropean language? Not a problem! As long as people can percieve the text and recognize that it is writing of some sort, they can read it. Some sort of Universal Tranlator, without the Detect part? Cryptography, usable by other?

  15. I read through the linear progression bit. Regardless, I would allow this, but remind the player about the "characteristic Maxima". A Str 20 character could buy Musclebound, but it would not be a 0 point option anymore. Plus, in my heroic campaigns, STR costs 1.5 points a pip. It'll get real expensive real fast.

  16. Yuck. Tailgaters beware!

So, are the explosions continuous, making it look like a rocket, or do they have to prepare and position each bomb? If they have to prep it, I would advise you to use the optional unlimited speed rules in star hero (keep on and on accelerating). There should be an extra time limitation to reflect getting the bomb in the magnetic chamber.

  17. I wrote up porter Rockwell a little while ago. His talents (recieves divine protection from bullets and knives, as well as clairsentience level tracking) make him border on superheroic. But then he's my favorite old west icon. Too bad most movies featuring the Avenging Angel aren't very good.

I guess this could be a great opportunity for 'Tall Tale Hero'. Paul Bunyan, Davy Crocket, Pecos Bill, John Henry.

Any book of this nature would need plenty of setting information. List a few indian reservations, forts, etc.

  18. Okay, If I'm going to play as someone (vaguely) based upon myself. I would have stats something like

    Value Attribute Cost Roll Notes

    8 Str -2 11- Lift 75 Kg, 2d6

    15 Dex 15 12- OCV: 5/ DCV: 5

    18 Con 16 13-

    13 Bod 6 12-

    15 Int 5 12- Per Roll: 11-

    10 Ego 0 11- ECV: 3

    16 Pre 6 12- Pre Attack: 3d6

    16 Com 3 12-

    4 PD 2

    4 ED 1

    3 SPD 5

    5 REC 0

    30 END 3

    26 STUN 1

    8†Running 4

    1†Swimming -1

    2 Leaping 0

    Total Characteristic Cost: 61

Although that’s probably vanity talking. I haven’t been sick for a long time, so I thought I’d have a good constitution score, the strength is based on how many dog food bags I could pick up (straining) at my old job, but the rest is vanity.

    Okay, skills next.

14- Animal Handler (Reptiles & Amphibians, Dragons, Canines) 8

    12- Acting 3

    12- Climbing 3

    12- Concealment 3

    12- Cryptography 3

    12- Gambling (Dominoes) 3

    12- Languages 3

    12- Oratory 3

    12- Persuasion 3

    12- PS(Alchemist) 3

    12- KS(Alchemist) 3

    11- SS(5 Alchemic Formulas) 10

    8- Riding 1

    12- Stealth 3

    … Wrestling (FREd page 267) 24

    Total Skill cost: 76

I’m studying Chemical Engineering, so I suppose Alchemy would be the fantasy equivalent (I used Herolovers Alchemy system). I speak Spanish Fluently with accent, but that wouldn’t be used in a fantasy setting, so insert a whatever language would be. I’m not very good at wrestling, but I would be in fantasy land.

    On to Perks

Fringe Benefit: access to Chemical Stores and Labs at university 2

Reputation: Honorable Man and Scholar 1

Follower: Iguana with extensive training, such as attack. 8

    Total Perk Cost: 11 points

Okay, that was inflated as well. Gojira doesn’t have attack training, but he’d be even cooler if he did, so I added it. He has 50 disadvantage points. And I don’t really have extensive access to dangerous chemicals (except on Thursdays), but I plan to one day.

    And Talents

I like Spicy Food! 2 points flash defense (taste group)

Okay, here’s my story in fantasy land. I’m studying to be a great (and wealthy) Alchemist at a public university. I learned to wrestle as a youth, but don’t do much with it now. I have a pet iguana which keeps me from being lonely, even though lizards appear to be incapable of returning affection. In fantasy land, this also has lead me to gain an understanding of dragon-kind. Why am I sitting in a dark inn, probably about to be talked in to hacking some orcs and stealing their loot? I'm studying. I'll go along because the university ain’t cheap. No no, it ain’t cheap.

  19. That won't make it stop. It will never stop. Not until every cartoon network and disney chanel broadcasting dish is in flames. Hmmm, the complete anhialation of childrens progaming. Sounds like a great idea for a dark champions campaign.

  20. Heh-heh, I just fried my brain a golden brown on my chem final. In said state, I thought I would post an Iconic fantasy potion. Here ya go.

    Gummi Berry Juice

Leaping +30†and Damage Reduction (PD 50%) (50 AP); OAF (Easily diluted or spilled, difficult to obtain new focus; -1 1/2), Only affects Gummi Bears (-1), One Continuous Charge (5 Minutes; -3/4) 12 Real Points plus

Strength +30 (30 AP); OAF (Easily diluted or spilled, difficult to obtain new focus; -1 1/2), Only affects Humans (-1), One Continuous Charge (5 Minutes; -3/4) 7 Real Points

    Total Cost: 19 points

It wasn't supposed to do anything to Ogres was it?

*Finals induced delirium continues. Begins singing crazily*

Dashing and daring, courageous and caring

Faithful and friendly with stories to share

All through the forest they sing out in chorus

Marching along as their song fills the air

    CHORUS:

Gummi Bears, bouncing here and there and everywhere

    High adventure that's beyond compare.

    They are the Gummi Bears

Magic and mystery are part of their history

Along with the secret of Gummi Berry Juice

The legend is growing they take part in knowing

They fight for what's right in whatever they do
