  2. That's one of my fantasy replacements for political debates: 10 hour congressional hearings. All the rules of an under-oath hearing, panel of congresspeople chosen by the opposition.

Hillary Clinton pulled it off, all potential Presidents should have to.

(My others are poker night and blue book essay. Poker night is just the game, with a President table and Vice President table, bringing in third party candidates. Blue book has the candidates sitting quietly in a classroom with university blue books, answering essay questions. Halfway through they swap books and rebut. They can bring a cheat sheet, but the contents of the cheat sheet are published along with the essay responses)

Oh, and I had this big idea of making a little character sheet for each character, and grossly underestimated the time required. Here is what I did get done. I'll see about getting some more today

  4. I may not be on the list but my friends are. Perhaps you know them? Franklin, Grant, and Jackson! It's time for the 2021 Master List Superdraft!

    CmdxBmfWYAAClJX.jpg

This draft is a superhero draft of the kind we have seen often on this forum. This particular draft seeks to maximize the event of one player 'sniping' another. To do this, most of your picks will come from a small list that we will jointly create.

May 1: everyone drafts 8 characters. Some heroes, some villains, all characters appropriate to the superhero genre. We want everyone's list in QUICKLY, so it doesn't matter if there are duplicates. These characters are sent to me by PM.

You are answerable only to your own conscience. Once I vetoed a number of characters for not being appropriate to the superhero genre. (Elsa from Frozen, for example). Not this year. I ask that you please keep your nine submissions appropriate to the genre, but I won't arbitrate.

May 2-5: Stragglers enter their submissions.

May 6: NO NEW PLAYERS! I post the Master List: Every character drafted, duplicates reduced to singles. I will replace duplicates with a pre-prepared list of popular characters (there are three picks for Superman? I go to the top two on my list that haven't been picked, and I add them. Now the master list has one Superman and two other people). Players may draft their location at this time.

Thereafter: Draft Normally. All your "Character" picks must come from the Master List, and you can't draft anyone you originally submitted. (so, from the example earlier, none of the three players could draft Superman. anyone could draft the two people I replaced his duplicates with). "Option" picks can be anything, including characters not on the Master List. "Option" picks cannot be used for Master List characters.

Picks take place at noon Eastern Daylight Savings Time.

You can post your Location at the same time you post any Character pick. I just never care about locations, so I don't want them to interfere with the rest of the draft.

Options can be used to draft characters that don't appear on the Master List. Options cannot be used to draft characters that ARE on the Master List.

    Location

    8 characters

3 options (can be used for characters not on the Master List)

  5. Would anyone like another go at my "Master List" draft? Everyone drafts a list of superheros, then those lists become a common pool everyone drafts from? The first one we tried was great, the second sputtered out, but we could try again.

Or "you're doing Shakespeare wrong" each person drafts a Shakespeare play, then drafts characters to fill the roles?

  6. I'm amusing myself with ChatGPT hallucinations.

I am playing a tabletop RPG using Hero System 5th edition revised by Steve Long. I want my character to be fully invisible to the Sight Group. How many points do I need to pay for invisibility?

In the Hero System 5th edition revised by Steve Long, you can achieve complete invisibility to the Sight Group by purchasing the Invisible Power with the "Affects Sight Group Only" modifier.

The cost of the Invisible Power depends on its level of effectiveness, which is determined by the amount of Perception rolls an observer must make to detect you. To be completely invisible to the Sight Group, you would need to purchase Invisible with the "Affects Sight Group Only" modifier at its maximum level, which requires observers to roll a Perception check against a difficulty of 18- (i.e., they must roll an 18 or higher on 3d6 to detect you).

According to the Hero System 5th edition rules, the cost of the Invisible Power with the "Affects Sight Group Only" modifier at its maximum level is 30 points per level. So if you want to be completely invisible to the Sight Group, you would need to pay 30 points for each level of the power.

I am playing a tabletop RPG using Hero System 5th edition revised by Steve Long. I am using a 5d6 Energy Blast against an enemy with 8 points normal defense. I make my attack roll. How do I calculate damage? Assume we are not using hit location modifiers.

To calculate the damage from your Energy Blast attack in Hero System 5th edition, you need to determine the attack's base damage, which is equal to the number of dice rolled plus the attack's damage class (which is determined by the character's power or equipment).

In this case, you are using a 5d6 Energy Blast, so the base damage is 5 plus the damage class of the attack. Let's assume the damage class is 6, which is a typical value for Energy Blast attacks.

So the base damage for your attack would be 5 + 6 = 11.

Next, you need to compare the attack's base damage to the target's defense value. In this case, the target has 8 points of normal defense.

If the attack's base damage is equal to or higher than the target's defense value, the attack hits and inflicts damage. If the base damage is lower than the target's defense value, the attack misses and does not inflict damage.

In this case, since the base damage of your Energy Blast attack is higher than the target's defense value, the attack hits and inflicts damage.

To calculate the damage inflicted, you subtract the target's defense value from the attack's base damage, and then multiply the result by the attack's damage multiplier. Let's assume the damage multiplier for your Energy Blast attack is 1, which is a typical value.

    So the damage inflicted would be (11 - 8 )* 1 = 3.

Therefore, your Energy Blast attack would inflict 3 points of damage to the target.
