The decision is that you would have to use another pick to make rivers sentient. It is like Nymphs and stuff.

    Very well:

    Sentient Life: Rivers

How do you communicate with a river? Their language includes murmurs, splashes, and knocking rocks.

How do you barter with a river? They are fond of cleaning services; they tend to accrue garbage as they meander so dredging out rubbish is welcome. Likewise weirs of activated carbon or highly vegetated land they can relax into marsh. They may also enjoy entertainment or religious services.

I'm angry at a river, or afraid of it. What are my options? Steep walls can dam them; they can flow uphill but they have limits. Hit both ends and you can trap it in a canyon. Another option is dirtying them up with excessive dust and sediment. Enough filth can make them sick or even kill them.

I've been one pick behind, so I should have one today as well:

    Animal: Wolves.

The wolves of this world will almost never attack children or infants. If they find one abandoned or neglected or abused they are perfectly happy to suckle them and raise them as their own.

    Looks like Fitz to me.

So DT, about the murder of a continent: where does this fit into the creation game?  Is this an Interference, or is it merely a provocation to get others to spend their picks to counter senseless mayhem?

Yes. Fitz means bastard. Fitzgerald means Gerald's bastard, for example.

Gift to Civilization: Monuments an Pilgrimage

The god of evil sneered at Fitz, surveying the lifeless continent. "Do you think you can undo this, little cast-off? All by yourself?"

Fitz turned. "Undo it? Death comes for the favored son as well as the unacknowledged, and I do not oppose it." He turned back to the wasteland. "Still, they are at greater risk, now, of being forgotten. I think I shall teach men to erect monuments, and to perform pilgrimage to those monuments, that these be kept in memory forever.

  3. I didn't see anyone take oceans or rivers? Did I miss it?

    Secondary Domain: Water

As the world broke, the ocean was no more. Fitz, god of bastards, saw the waters tumble into droplets in the elemental chaos, and would not have them forgotten.

He spoke to them, of the new world. He spoke of the gifts of intelligence and ambition and everything else he had seen.

    And the fatherless waters answered.

They seeped in through the cracks of the chimneyworlds, and as all bastards must ventured on their own.

They honored the edict of Multiplicity. The old world had contiguous oceans, but this world received rivers.

    Living rivers.

    Thinking rivers.

They did not hold to channels. They did not respect the logic of flowing downhill. They flowed where they chose. Some were a thousand miles long and took years to pass through. Some were mere creeks bartering with farmers. Some were murderous, crashing as flash floods through towns. Others loved commerce and took contracts as canals. "Lake" is a mean word for a fat lazy river with no noticeable flow.

Tldr, rivers are alive, they don't flow into an ocean because there isn't one, and they flow where they wish.

Death Tribble, I took this as a secondary domain so I could stipulate the nature of water, removing oceans. If you need me to spend my sentient life on them too, that is acceptable.

  4. Wagner took Voronezh. That puts them very close to able seize some nukes. Not able to use them, but I still don't like it. Makes my popcorn a little too salty.

Let's hope they don't actually do that and just proceed to Moscow. Although it would be a little funny if they seized the nukes and Putin petitioned NATO for help to secure them.

Okay okay I won't post on this again.

Does anyone know what Ukrainian forces are doing during this, if it's changed their plans for advance? I mean, retaking Crimea sooner rather than later might be possible?

The coup hasn't really changed the front line situation,  at least not yet. Russia is using their version of the national guard to stop him, as well as asking very nicely for Wagner to detain their boss. Russia has not pulled back troops to stop Prigozhin, so the Ukrainian forces aren't enjoying lesser resistance.

There is one thing they are doing on the front line:

  6. Remember when Zelensky said "I need ammunition, no a ride" and then stayed in Kyiv during the entire siege? Yeah? What a man.

Putin urgently leaves Moscow for bunker in Valdai – Ukrainian intelligence

Putin's special Il96-300PU (Control Point) aircraft departed Moscow for St Petersburg at 14:16 (Moscow time), according to FlightRadar data. The destination of the aircraft is not indicated, and it disappeared from the tracking system over the Tver area. One of Putin's residences is located in Tver Oblast. Equipment for the control of the Russian Armed Forces is installed on this aircraft.

  7. The thing is, I can't bring myself to hope for a Russian civil war. The war in Ukraine is bad. A Russian civil war would be worse. A civil war in a nuclear power compounded by several bordering states? That's a bad situation for the whole world.

Meanwhile, Wagner is definitely passing through Rostov. Here's a gas station.

Unconfirmed reports that Wagner shot down a Russian helicopter.

  8. Honestly, they haven't been able to put down the Free Russia Legion, which is operating in territory that is squarely Russian. Russia is already in a civil war.

I can see Prigozhin's opportunity. He's had a lot of good press. Putin will never be more militarily vulnerable than he is now with all his forces in Ukraine. Even so, he has no shot of a real coup. He could kill Putin and take the capital, maybe, but that doesn't make him the new boss. None of the remaining military would accept him.

Best case scenario, Prigozhin causes distraction and loss right when Ukraine needs it. Worst case, Russia descends into an age of warlord bandits.

So, are you just leaving the word out of the prompts? Also, which AI model are you using?

I'm using Midjourney. Here are my prompts:

Muscular man flying, cape, flightsuit --ar 2:3 --niji 5

Daring man flying, cape, flightsuit, zoom themed, by Jack Kirby --ar 2:3 --niji 5

But yes, I find it is overtrained in some words being more specific than they should. Like I ask for power armor and I get Fallout power armor, every time. I have to talk around it, and maybe put a small negative weight on Fallout

  10. AI is not bad when you aren't picky about the specifics. I am frequently annoyed by the things I can't persuade it to do. I had an idea for a fantasy landscape where the sun was a wolf or a shark. I liked the idea of watching it (with appropriate glasses) slowly stride across the sky. It might have been a fun option for the Fantasy Worldbuilding draft.

Except Midjourney was way to fixated on the idea that the sun is a circle. Naturally the answer is to not mention the sun itself. Just talk about how bright the shark is

Radiant FlareShark in OrangeSky, in the style of luminous suffusion, flying, landscape :: Sun CircleSun ::-0.2 --ar 16:9 --v 5.1

    Sociotard_Radiant_FlareShark_in_OrangeSk

I even tried getting a nice sunset from Midjourney, then photobashing it to make a Shark Sun. It didn't look great, but sometimes adding an image prompt helps Midjourney get the idea:

    Untitled.jpg

It didn't help! No sun sharks. Just flying sharks across the sun

    Sociotard_landscape_with_flaring_Shark_fhelp

I even tried testing to get a square sun, or any abnormal shape. Impossible! But any artist who could make a nice landscape could make a shark sun.

Some things have been tricky, but not impossible. Mysterious pyramids that float upside down in the air? It took a lot of work, but I got a couple. Not consistently, but I got them. A cyclops (monster not mutant)? Mostly fails.

And all this aside from the difficulty getting a consistent character. No, MJ can help a real artist get ideas. That's all.
