  1. Investigators did DNA tests on herbal supplements from assorted vendors (Wal-mart, Walgreen, etc) and found that only 21% contained the plant they claimed to. It was mostly just vegetable matter. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/herbal-supplements-targeted-by-new-york-attorney-general/
  2. Utah Republican wonders if it’s OK to rape an unconscious woman as long as that unconscious woman is your wife it kind of reminded me of that one controversial case in Canada

  5. http://tmblr.co/ZhC7Fy1ZzdTxc I think there are some people criticizing this post who are missing an important point. It’s not dismissing inappropriately objectified women in art, it’s informing how we have that conversation. The honest truth is that “practical” doesn’t have any value in comics at large, especially superhero comics, and saying something is “impractical” or “impossible” isn’t going to sway anyone. If you want to adequately criticize objectification with regards to a pose, you need to show where there is a double-standard and why. Saying “this pose is awkward” is a terrible foundation for an argument about this subject, because people can readily challenge it (like in the OP). Showing trends of sexual objectification on covers and the wide gap between how women and men are portrayed- that’s where you need to start. Pointing at a drawing and saying “bodies don’t do that” can be amusing, but it’s not substantial. The same goes for “impractical” clothing and the like. You can’t just say something isn’t realistic, you have to show where the gender disparity is. Only one of several photos placed here. Click the link for more.
  6. I was curious, so I looked at the Gamergate article on Wikipedia, and I honestly don't think it is too bad. The first paragraph, as of this posting: That looks fairly even-handed to me.
  7. Well, this time around the US seems to be at least trying to earn the "it's all their fault" designation, with our sanctions decrying anybody else's military imperialism.
  8. I'm sorry, Vondy, no offence was intended. I was afraid that if I specified the target was Orthodox Jewish it would come across as anti-Semitic or something. I apologize if it came across as defaming Israel in general.
  9. But my maltezers! They're so much better than Whoppers.
  10. Just pasting in a url does not embed the video. I'm not sure why. Anyway, in the great state of Mississippi, it is illegal to demonstrate how to properly apply a condom or other contraceptive. No putting one on a banana. On a completely unrelated note, Mississippi has some of the highest rates of teen pregnancy and HIV contraction in the country. Anyway it is not illegal to demonstrate how to apply a sock. He doesn't care if you plan to insert your foot in an athletic shoe or a dress shoe or whatever, but before you insert your foot in any kind of shoe, he want to make sure your foot is protected. One presumes Don Johnson is not welcome in his class. www.youtube.com/watch?x-yt-cl=84503534&v=06kT9yfj7QE
  11. Ooh, that is . . . disappointing? Frustrating? Something. I've always been a fan of Wikipedia, and donated when they did their drives.

  13. An Israeli newspaper showed pictures of world leaders marching in a Paris solidarity march, and photoshopped it to remove Angela Merkel and other women leaders, purportedly for modesty reasons. See the guy in the middle with the blue suit, balding with some brown hair? See the guy next to him with white hair and less balding? Merkel was between them. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-politics/11342250/Charlie-Hebdo-Women-Photoshopped-from-Paris-rally-picture.html
  14. Interestingly, if a super uses their powers, they automatically become egotistic, selfish, and lacking empathy. They become villains, every last one, unless they abstain. Very fun idea for a world. It'd be awesome to run as a dark champions game.
  15. At first I wondered which of the Romanovs was severely disabled. Evidently, that is anastasia, goofing off and putting somebody else's dentures in her mouth.
  16. Saw this, and I just had to shake my head at how tone deaf it seemed. What about telling them to be careful about keeping their hands empty and in full view with no sudden movements so you don't just shoot them, officer? should we tell them that?
  17. Unless time travel happened, which given Gru, I wouldn't rule out.
  18. I thought the lady Minions were annoying. Not that they were female (kind of a miss for the movie to have none, really. They can't have just been androgynous potato people. One of them hit on a fire hydrant) It was just annoying because they were made "sexy", instead of pill-shaped with irregular numbers of eyes. But most of those genderbends were fun. The Harry Potter ones were posted here before, I think.
  19. Brown was shot the first time because he wrestled and punched a cop. Why was he shot after stepping away from the vehicle?
  20. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/dec/26/estonia-offers-e-residency-to-world-what-does-it-mean Estonia will offer e - citizenship to people around the world.
  21. Yes, but a grand jury doesn't fine the defendant or send him to jail. It just permits a trial to go forward, and real trials are not rigged too much against defendants. As such, I have no trouble letting the indictment process be a little aggressive.
  22. The FDA to lift lifetime ban on blood donations from Gay men. In 2015 they will be able to donate as long as they haven't had gay nookies in over a year. Small Steps. http://news.yahoo.com/us-lift-lifetime-ban-blood-donations-gay-men-192510074.html
  23. Well this took an ugly turn Two police assassinated in their patrol car. The shooter had recently shot his girlfriend and said that he wanted to be sure he was remembered for doing something right, then said they killed one of ours, lets kill two of theirs. He was black. In a little twist, neither of the men he shot (5 days before Christmas) was white. Oh, and one was a newlywed. When the mayor gave a press conference on the subject, the police turned their backs to him.
