    6th edition

Re: 6th edition Perhaps the biggest argument I have seen to play 6th over 5th is that Figured Characteristics are now decoupled. However; in 5th, if you want to play a character say, with a low DEX that is still combat effective can't you just take skill levels? I own the 6th ed core books and also just about every 5th ed book printed. Presently, I'm not seeing enough to make me want to make the change, or importantly, put my players through it. Some of them have had bad experiences with multiple versions of other systems and become sceptical of new editions.
  3. Re: Bushido Hero Having played a lot of Bushido over the years (I'm even playing in a campaign currently) I would really recommend just learning the rules. They work just perfectly for that genre. There is for example, the underlying thought that each combat that you engage in could well be your last, no matter how good you are. Its a beautiful little system, even after all these years. As for a genre book, pick up Sengoku as that is full of very useful info. For rules, stick with Bushido and you will be pleasantly rewarded.

    Map needed

Re: Map needed Sorry that was my mistake, by map I actually meant 'floorplan' - something that I can port across to a battlemap for the inside of the base. Maybe there are some RPG supplements that folks could recommend. Something that I could download in pdf format would be good. I'm never good at coming up with floorplans off the top of my head!

    Map needed

Can anybody point me toward map resources for a WWII era military (Nazi) base? I'm in something of a rush for the weekend's session. Thanks in advance!
  7. Re: As A Hero Gamer, Do You Use The Surbrook's Stuff Website? I pop along to the site on a fairly frequent basis (in fact I had just been there before seeing this thread) I almost exclusively use the character archive, especially for characters from other RPGs (Delta Green, Godlike) and movie/comic book adaptations. Seem to be on a power level that suits me just fine.
  8. Re: Why doesn't 6e use hexes as a unit of measurement? Probably because back when Champions first appeared most miniatures for roleplaying were 28mm scale and they fit well into the 1 hex = 2 m. Currently I'm using a mondomat with 1 1/2" hexes so that the Heroclix range of figures (38mm) work perfectly. Personally, I can't imagine a Hero combat without a battlemat. Not using it would simply add time to combat by requiring myself and others to keep track of where everybody/thing is in relation to everyone/thing else. Like another poster said, drawing up some fine detail on the mats or using the old Flextiles products adds a lot to combat, because people are often reminded of their environment (great for brick tricks requiring 'appropriate items of opportunity"). I can the logic of why 6Ed dropped hexes (allows use of other maps with square overlays; draws in D&D gamers etc) but I've stuck with them and converted people to their use.
  9. Re: Do you give differing accents to fantasy races? I wouldn't wish the Cockney dialect on anyone. Orcs, or Dick Van Dyke.
  10. Re: Spider-Man design question Yes, thanks for the input. That was how I was reading it. Just failing the DS roll wouldn't stop the Linked powers as DS is still 'working' its just that you haven't managed to perceive anything with it. I do see JmOz point though as this is (sort of) what deterred me from using Linked originally. Was the Danger Sense actually being used constantly in order to justify the Linked powers? So I took this version of Linked at -1/4 because the DS is 'Constant or otherwise likely to be in use all or most of the time' regardless of its success roll. I'm happy with that as the effect seems to give me what I want and the cost saving is about right.
  11. Re: Spider-Man design question You know, I think Linked covers it perfectly. I had initially dismissed it because I thought that the CSLs etc, should work without the need of a Danger Sense roll. However, if Danger Sense is bought to function as a Sense (i.e., its effectively always on) I think this works.
  12. I'm currently trying to build everyone's favourite wall-crawler. I want to tie some DEX, Danger Sense, Combat Skill Levels, and some Levels w/DCV into a "Spider-Sense". What I want to simulate is that if the Spider-Sense is removed then a lot of what makes Spider-Man his own unique self is also gone; namely a good chunk of his agility, combat effectiveness, and fighting style. What is the best way to go about this? At first it seems like an Elemental Control (although I realise that you aren't supposed to put things like CSLs and powers that do not cost END into ECs.) Or is it just something like a limitation: 'Not if Danger Sense is Suppressed or Drained', applied to the DEX and skills?
  13. Sorry Steve, this is also a 5E one... As Adjustment powers automatically work against all powers in an Elemental Control, would Dispel work the same way?

  15. Re: Hulk write-up from Game Trade Magazine 2003 Thanks guys, repped!
  16. Happy New Year Everyone. I was wondering if anyone still has a copy of this article stashed away somewhere? It featured four write-ups of the Hulk (under Champions, Silver Age Sentinels, M&M, and the Marvel RPG). It was available as a PDF file online for some time but I can't find it anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  17. Re: Phantom Steed Sorry; 5th (I have 6th but am continuing this campaign under 5th)
  18. I have a player who wishes to create a knight with a phantom steed. At its campaign introduction, it will have no game effect other than transportation; it merely serves as a spectral mount that grants him flight. So, standard Flight with the special effect that he rides a ghostly horse. However, he has also said that he would like one other person to be able to ride the mount along with himself. The second person should not pay END for this flight (only the knight, for the steed is a manifestation of his will). and has to remain in contact with the knight at all times. He thus flies wherever the knight does and if the knight is stunned or KOed for example, he is suddenly without a mount. This sounds like the Usable As Attack Advantage (with the defense that the recipient can simply 'dismount' and move away from being adjacent to the knight) but that Advantage would theoretically exclude the knight from using the power on himself at the same time. I say 'theoretically' because I could of course rule otherwise. I wonder though if I am just missing something glaringly obvious?
  19. Re: Sourcebook artwork Thank you kindly, sir!
  20. Can anybody point me to additional artwork out there of the various CU heroes and villains?
  21. Hi Steve I realise that I may not be too sure how Multiform works. Lets say I am generating a new character in a Low-Powered Superheroic campaign (150pts + 100 Disadvantages Max). I want to generate an alternate 400pt form for said character. How much of that form must be justified by Disadvantages? 250pts?
  22. What would be the best way to simulate the (Marvel Comics) Sentinels' adaptive algorithm that allows them to learn from their mistakes in combat? I'm thinking CSLs with limitations such as Extra Time (the time it takes to access the main database containing info on known opponents) and Only vs an opponent previous encountered by Sentinels (-1/4).
  23. Re: 5th Ed: Flying Dodge Dive for Cover has limiting factors and drawbacks of its own. As per the FAQ, this maneuver has none whilst also allowing the character to break a rule - No aborting to movement. Its in the FAQ. (my emphasis)
