  1. Re: Royalty Character Much depends on how much one's setting resembles the real world. In the real world the Head of State is simply not going to be free enough to go "superheroing". However, members of the royal family very well migh be able to, especially if they are no closer to the monarch than second cousin. For less realistic settings, do as you will.
  2. Re: What happens when a new GM doesn't understand game balance
  3. Re: WWYCD: Magic Fishnets? What makes it worse is that the fishnets must be visible. That would make for.....interesting.....powered armor.
  4. Re: No Horses For You If one wishes to use explanations more exact than "It's magic," one should be careful the explanations do not demand explanations themselves. E.g., I once had a GM who said "elves are hurt by iron because it's at the bottom of the fraction packing curve." Naturally, we all asked why elves were sensetive to such a thing. "Hilarity ensued."
  5. Re: Classic Fantasy Settings: A world whose overall geography is different from Earth. E.g., a flat plain or group of flat plains of irregular shape floating in midair. A flat disk on the back of four elephants standing on the shell of a turtle (NB: Pratchett did not invent this idea). A world smaller or much larger than Earth. A world where the godlings that run things (weather, streams, etc.) are not only real, but entirely visible.
  6. Re: Superhuman Bender Firstly, such a "right" exists (in the USA) only in "community property" states. In other states, no such "right" exists. Secondly, exercising such a "right" requires divorce proceedings, or a court order at the least.
  7. Re: Meta-Backgrounds I do not mean to insult, but for goodness sake------why? Why do such a thing? There is enough difficulty in we, of the real world, role-playing a character who is, in a fictious world, real. How would one play a character who is, in a fictious world, him-/herself fictious? Secondary creation (to use Tolkien's term) is difficult; what you are suggesting is what I would call tertiary creation. What I create is a secondary creation. That is, a person who is real, within the bounds of the fictious world s/he lives in.
  8. Re: Reduced Endurance and Active Points Caps (Thread Split) My GM gave up on AP Caps for this very reason. As well, DC Caps did not work very well. My GM's idea: Base Point HARD Caps, Active Points Guidelines with "trade off". I.e., you could have a Power with an AP higher than the Guideline if you had another Power with an AP lower by the same amount, if the GM agreed. It is not necessary for the Powers to be related whatsomever, though being related can help.
  9. Re: WWYCD Political chaos! Not all of my current, active PCs exist in a setting where this could occur. However, I will respond as if they did. Caliente: In situations 1 through 3: hand over to the proper authorities the information she has. If situation 4 involves a crime the candidate was not arrested for, turn over the information to the proper authorities, if it does not involve a crime, or if the candidate was arrested for, destroy the documents. The Blaze: In situations 1, 2 and 3: would hand over the evidence, but would do so either immediately, after the election but before the Inauguration, or after the Inauguration, depending on what would do the most or least damage to the candidate (which in turn depends on whether she approved or not of the candidate). Situation number 4 she would ignore (unless it was a crime the candidate had not been arrested and tried for; if that were true, she'd treat it the same way she would treat situations 1,2, and 3). Lana Wanna: In all situations; figure out how to use the information to do the most damage to the election process. If damage cannot be done, hold it up to ridicule. If that cannot be done, ignore it all.
  10. Re: How Would You Make Green Lantern? "How Would You Make Green Lantern?" Lana Wanna would make him with a wink, a wiggle of her hips, and a long slow lick of her lips. Perhaps with a low, throaty "Well hello there, handsome." If he's good looking, she might expend more effort to make him. Oh, that's not what you meant. Sorry...
  11. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... This is not from the last week, nor the last month, but it is so characteristic of Lana Wanna it has gained fame among those who know her. Introductory information: Lana Wanna was wearing a vest, with nothing under it, with a very deep and wide neckline. It was made of leather that would usually be used in making the finest of gloves, yet it provided spectacular lift to her very sizable bosom. She noted the large number of people ogling her at the bar she and a friend were at, and turned to said friend. "Some guys like 'em full, other guys want 'em firm, and a few guys care most if they're round and well formed." A long pause followed by an extreme shrug that caused "jiggling." "But I don't care for apples all that much." The laughter stopped the game for 10 minutes, the OOC chatter that followed stopped it another 30.
  12. Re: No Horses For You For a "no horse" fantasy setting, where the GM wants a high degree of verisimilitude, I would recommend camels and similar creatures. A camel-like creature that evolved to tolerate humidity, or a larger cousin of the llama would be good. As well, one can imagine the evolution of a smaller elephant, or a larger tapir. Indeed, the megafauna of the Pleistocene are a rich source of ancestors of imaginary riding animals.
  13. Re: No Horses For You Oh no; the witch-water myth is millenia later than the elves-iron myth. It is a specifically christian idea: the water of baptism will reject one who has rejected the connection to god that baptism formed. The witch does not use magic to prevent drowning; the priest uses the magic inherent in baptism to show the witch has severed herself from christendom. The ides is still garbage, but a significantly different sort of garbage.
  14. Re: Classic Fantasy Scenery and Magic: There are areas where the "mana" level is very high; magic done there will go out of control. Similar idea: there are areas where one or more magic spells are still going strong, centuries after they were cast. Yet another similar idea: there are areas where magic effects are random, continuous, or both. Such areas are usually portrayed in fiction as the sites of major magical battles or wars, long, long ago.
  15. Re: No Horses For You Amongst dinosaurs I would suggest Iguanadon, or other herbiverous, herd-forming creatures of moderate size. I remember a game where the lizardmen (not called that, but effectively they were) rode Komodo dragons. My disbelief was hung, not suspeded, as Komodos are utterly fierce and utterly fearless. Taming them would be impossible.
  16. Re: Fishy, Fishy, Fishy, Fish! The Hero System Bestiary has Barracuda costing a total of 44 points. A barracuda is a predator, and I imagine edible fish cost much less. Indeed, an eel costs -38 points+++yes, that is a negative number. My suggestion would be to consider edible fish as costing 5 points in and of themselves. Thus Summoning one costs a single point, and Summoning 1,024 costs 51 points before Advantages and Limitations.
  17. Re: More fun with Morty the Incompetent Mugger Caliente: Rolls a 5. She would laugh derisively at Morty, and make no move to apprehend "Granny". She would take Morty's gun, and frisk him for other weapons, and then determine how much stolen money he had. If none, she would leave Morty there. Otherwise, she'd call in the police, to apprehend Morty. The Blaze: Rolls a 5. She would stifle her laughter, and try to talk "Granny" into going to the police and pressing charges. She would frisk Morty and remove any weapons (including the gun, naturally). She would then transport Morty to the police. Lana Wanna: Rolls a 1. If the cop is good looking, Lana will give her/him a way to make contact (email is far the most likely method), and make her interest obvious. However, Lana will be sure not to interfere with, or slow down, the officer.
  18. Re: The Cosmic Reset Button: Destroying the World Depends: how do YOU want your game to go? Depends: how do YOU want your game to go? Depends: how do YOU want your game to go? In other words: there is no, there can be no, "correct" answer. Set up your game world howsoever you wish.
  19. Re: WWYCD: Magic Fishnets? Caliente: She might use them. She'd appreciate that the would not be destroyed by her firey nature. The Blaze: She would greatly like them; she could use more MA ability to go with her speedster nature. Lana Wanna: She would LOVE them; she is deficient in HTH ability. She would regret having to cease wearing her favored thighboots, and would seek a method whereby she could wear both.
  20. Re: WWYCD: Magic Fishnets? Caliente: She'd give them a trial; it's nice they wouldn't burn up, and some MA would be good. I'm not sure if she would retain them, however. The Blaze: She's like them greatly; more MA would be highly usable with her Speedster powers. Lana Wanna: She'd LOVE them; she's deficient in HTH abilities. She'd regret they are incompatible with her thighboots, however; OTOH fishnets are sexy, so that would compensate in part.
