  1. Re: Why do you like to play Super Hero Games? I loved superhero comics, and when the opportunity came to play a game where I got to create siuperheroes and live out their lives, I couldn't wait to sign up. Beyond that, see Louis Armstrong's answer to the queston "what is jazz".
  2. Re: Gestalt of the Week Grab your hammer and nails. The Construction Gestalt is the Gestalt of the Week.
  3. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Peace is Here - Jars of Clay
  4. Re: Best HERO system product Let's see. Sentimental attachment: Anything with my name on it. My wee baby bairns. ::sniff:: Barring those, and the core rules, Hero Designer, and Digital Hero/Adventurer's Club (all highly recommeded) Best utility player: Ultimate Martial Artist. I use this book more than any other. Best Genre Book: Pulp Hero. Lots of good ones to select, but this is my favorite, both in terms of preferred genre and execution. Best Setting: Hudson City, Strike Force (3e), Lands of Mystery (3e) (tie). Alll incredible stuff. Best Monster/NPCs book: Lots of good ones to choose from. I'm going with my sentimental choice and say the original Enemies, even if it's clearly dated. CKC is probably the real winner here. Best Adventure: Shades of Black. Dammit, I miss Allen's work.
  5. Re: Gestalt of the Week Updated with two more of the Hot Gods. Collect the set!
  6. Re: [Review] Gestalt: The Hero Within Here's a old thread where we previewed some of the art http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1318893#post1318893 Though we had to go black and white with the art on the main book, I think the conversions turned out pretty good.
  7. Re: [Review] Gestalt: The Hero Within Not a problem, Mike. However, if any of the proofers should post here and say "you should have seen the manuscript before we got our hands on it...", believe them.
  8. Re: [Review] Gestalt: The Hero Within I don't like to dispute reviews, particularly when it's a mostly favorable one. A number of authors have, over the years, made colossal asses of themselves doing just that, and I'm not anxious to follow in their illustrious footsteps. However, a few points: A number of good people did proof the manuscript over the years. The last group had a particularly tough job, as it's harder to proof a laid out book than a text block (and removing all of the text, checking it, and then reconstructing a 400 page book would have been too time consuming and wouldn't have caught layout errors). For the record, many of the errors that made it into the final book are solely my fault (for example. the decision to move the questionnaires to the Player's Guide download was a last minute tweak that was made after they'd proofed the section, which resulted in at least one major error). Derek pretty much hit the nail on the head about why I included the "how to get around it" info. There was some internal wrestling with including that section (as well as the decision to keep extraterrestrials, remove time travel, and describe the Gestalt Dimension in as much detail as it received). I understand (and sympathize with) the reviewer's objections about that section, but I've always seen the Hero audience as largely a group of toolkitters who like to see their style supported. Even so, I like settings with focus and I'd hoped the "how to get around them" parts steered the players back to characters who fit the setting. I'm hoping at some point to talk with Steve and Darren and make arrangemnts to sell Hero Designer versions of the packages and characters through this site. I have the files, but numerous small changes were made to the packages since those files were built, and they'd have to be updated. Anyways, thanks ghost-angel for taking the time to review this huge fricking book. Hopefully it might attract those who'd find the setting useful, and keep away those who'd be unhappy with the purchase (which are two of the things a good review should do).
  9. Re: Gestalt Now Available In Color Dr. Power and the Tyranny League weren't there because the book would have felt too "top-heavy"; it might have been less useful to GMs starting a campaign if the book only included the heavyweights of the campaign. Future books depend on the sales. If Gestalt manages to do really well over the next 3-4 months, I'll start commissioning some character art for the League, Power, and the others I have in mind for the book (plus anyone whom gamers would really like to see). If sales taper off, I'll post the stats on the BlackWyrm site.
  10. Re: Seven unusual propeller-driven vehicles Yep. And -- according to my brother -- a distant cousin.
  11. Re: Fairy Tale Challenges? The elves of Alfenheim will give you weapons to fight Loki(or banish him to Asgard adnd seal off the connection between Bifrost and our world), provided you can do one simple task: guess the elven prince's name. Oh, and they want the first-born from every member of your team if you fail.
  12. Re: Gestalt Now Available In Color Sorry Doc. That's a mistake. The questions were moved to the free Player's Guide download. That bit of text should have been excised.
  13. Re: Gestalt Now Available In Color Very cool, Derek! Just hered a friend tell me she picked up a copy at a game store today, so they should be on the shelves soon, if they aren't there now.
  14. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? I'm seeking out some Gabriel Faure pieces on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmgZHp4OkZc&mode=related&search= http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=US9U4aXCfm8
  15. Re: Best Published Superhero Adventure? While we're remembering DC Heroes, don't forget "Don't Ask", the wonderful Ambush Bug adventure. I also seemed to recall some dynamite adventure material in Ray's Watchman sourcebook, but it's been awhile since I looked at it. (I may be confusing it with Dan Greenberg's adventure).
  16. Re: DC's Captain Marvel: OIHID or Multiform? I suspect he (and maybe Thor) are probably the reasons OIHD exists in the first place.
  17. Re: Who Is... Your Favorite Villain? I don't mean to be contrary, DT, but the Protectors, splendid though they are, are the creations of Scott Heine and his gaming group. I had the privilege to run for three or four of the original players (including Scott) at Gen Con many years ago and had a blast.
  18. Re: [Review] Villainy Amoke I apprecited the review G-A. And for what it's worth, I wish the book had more (and larger) maps too. )Though in retrospet, I'm pretty happy with it.)
  19. Re: Champions of India Are you thinking of this thread? http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48823&highlight=Devi
  20. Re: COPS, CREWS, AND CABALS -- What Do *You* Want To See? I'd love to see a PRIMUS book written by Shelley. Barring Shelley (or Steve), I'd pay for one written by Hermit. Bob would be good too.
  21. Re: Gestalt is Online The Blood Ring King was originally mine; I know of one website that adapted him after the Gestalt files were posted on Red October, but I'm not sure if they were Worldmaker's. The name itself is probably inspired by Blood Red, one of the two animal followers of a character played by the late Elizabeth Wolcott (the other was named Bone White, and yes, the Bone White Queen would also be a cool villain name) in a Champs campaign run by Wayne Shaw in 1991/1992.
  22. Re: Quick thoughts on Gestalt I'm really glad to hear you liked the book, Mike. Editing mistakes get under my craw, of course; the fact that they're my fault make them a lot worse. If you feel so inclined, email them to me, and at some point, I'll see if a corrected PDF can be issued to those who bought one.
