Needing a bit of help with this group...

I'm putting together a hero team for my campaign. I have the basic ideas down, but I'm needing a hand with the specifics. You people here are always helpful with this sort of thing and brainstorming is always fun.

The idea is "stolen" from Cyberpunk and Shadowrun. In those games, there are emergency medical response teams that cater to the wealthy (because only they can really afford the services). In CP you've got Trauma Team Inc, and REO Meatwagon. In SR, there's DocWagon. Their job is to respond to their customers' medical emergencies in an extremely swift and decisive fashion. They'll even enter a combat zone and defend their charge if its neccesary, but they aren't there to fight.

I want a similar team in my campaign world. They are supers hired by an enterprising medical corporation. The first thing I'm needing is a name for the team.

What I also need are character ideas to fill out the team. I'm thinking a brick, a force field guy, a medical/healing specialist, and such, but I don't have any concrete ideas down yet (I just came up with the idea yesterday at work). I'm not sure if I want the team to have a vehicle or maybe a hero that can teleport the whole team, or what.

I'd love to hear your collective ideas on this. Thanks! :)

Brick- "Strongarm"

Forcefield guy "Aegis" or if you feel punny and his powers are the right hue "Blue Shield"

Medical/Healing guy "Doc" (Sure, it seems short, but sometimes simplicity works)

You need a gate teleporter as well just easier than a quinjet type ambulance.

Team names hmm

Caduceus (the snake staff thing)

The Paean (Greek god of healing)

The Avalon group (after the island where king Arthur was taken to heal from his wounds)

You could develop quite a large organization specializing in meta-human health and rapid response crisis medicine.

traveling to disaster areas to tend the wounded and rescue people I can see cities taking out meta-human response insurance for major disasters. An orbital hospital base. A whole assembly of intrusting medical supers.

I can see some really intreasting npcs or characters

Specialist in mystical maladies

Duplicating paramedic

Healer gods

Telekinetic rescue worker

Kitty Pryde turned field medic

A lot of supers might work there pro bono to get access to there labs and peers for assistance with there own medical problems (think Bruce Banner he’s a specilaist in radiation illnesses).

Might be worth being on call for emergancies if that gets you free insurance as well.

DC's shortlived take on this was called "Powerhouse" they were a corporate sponsored team who answered calls made by subscribers. They were a combination rescue team/security guards. The set up was the subscribers paid a monthly fee in addition to a per call fee. Only the wealithiest people could afford the service and those same people often needed rescued from problems more moral behavior would have avoided. The team had to do a lot of soul searching as I recall.

I have a villain group with a medical theme, all the result of medical experiments:

CRITICAL CONDITION

Fracture (brick)

Trauma (Wolverine-ish - bone claws, regen)

Cast (Iceman with cast-goop instead of ice)

Cardiac (decent fighter, can cause heart attacks with a touch)

Coma (leader, mentalist whose body is comatose, so doesn't see much field work ;) )

Good ideas, and thanks for what's come so far. Further comments and questions...

1. I like the name Shield for a force field slinger (whose fields, coincidently, are bluish in color). His job is to protect and defend while the others do their work.

2. Fracture may be a neat name for the brick, although it might have too much of a negative connotation to it. His job is heavy lifting and other strength-related tasks. Any other suggestions for a name?

3. A long time ago, someone on these boards (speak up if'n it was you) was discussing a power-suited hero whose powers and abilities were all medical and first aid based. I really like that idea. His suit is sort of a mini trauma center worn by a paramedic. This guy is definately on the team, he's their chief med tech. What shall we name him?

4. I definately prefer a teleporter to transport the team around rather than some sort of vehicle. Its cleaner, faster, and lends more to the fact that the group members are supers rather than well-equipped normals. What's her name?

5. Should there be an offensively-minded member on the team? The group is never to engage in combat unless it is absolutely neccesary to rescue the customer. That would tend to result in defensive tactics and strategies. But sometimes having a solid offensive capability may dissuade attacks. On the other hand, having a solid offensive capability might fuel detractors and take away from the defensive/rescue nature of the company. This is a good topic for debate I think.

6. I also like the name Avalon Group, LLC for the company. But I'm also considering Meta-Vac, Ltd. Which do you guys think is better? The group's name could be a derivative of the company name: something like AG-1 or MV Alpha might work.

As a note, I'd like to shy away from Greek terms and names on this one. Too much of that and the gimmick goes stale.

I'm pretty sure you're talking about K.A.'s character Evac.

You could swap names around and name her Evac, and call the power armored paramedic Triage.

Depending on what kind of situations you plan on getting them involved in, someone who can set up a secure perimeter may not be a bad idea. If they're regularly expected to enter into "hot zone", then someone who can keep the other side busy is an absolute must. On the other hand, if all they're dong is getting in and out fast, having someone create an unsafe condition, appear threatening, or just plain attract attention becomes a big liability.

On a side note, you might want to add a little flavor to the group by giving them a few maneuvers/code phrases like "Tag and Bag", "Surgical Strike", and "Clear!".

You've got Shield to defend the team while they work. But I agree that sometimes the best defense is convincing anyone thinking of attacking you that such a course of action would be a very bad idea.

What you would want would be someone very intimidating, but without using guns, knives, or other offensive weapons. How would it appear if an EMT team started shooting/stabbing/etc. people to rescue someone? My recommendation is to find someone with an incredible rep that's tired of working on his own, the sort of person anyone who had heard of him would know not to mess with him if they value their own health. It wouldn't really matter what his powers were, or how powerful they were, he would make anyone thinking of attacking think twice, which should give the team enough time to finish up and get away.
