Pariah
I have now officially survived three days of the Professional Learning Communities conference, as well as two days of parent-teacher conferences, including those for my own two kids. Now I have a 3-day weekend ahead of me. Life is good.

Pariah
There's a local ice cream maker called Farr's whose products are of similar quality, but at a much lower price. Tillamook also makes really, really good ice cream. For root beer floats, though, the store brand is generally quite sufficient.
L. Marcus
... I'm not sure that I'd ever want to try a root beer float. Sounds like Instant Diabetes.
Cancer
Every European I have known who has tried root beer has gone into seizures about it. It's kind of like how Americans are about lutefisk.

Cancer
Here I was trying to set you up for a comment about the Finns.
Bazza
I think that Finn-ished him.
L. Marcus
I am half Finn. Probably more, if one goes back far enough -- before the 14th century, this was a pretty solid Finno-Ugric speaking part of the world. Then the Swedes decided to colonize. Cancer
I obviously do not have my head wrapped around the Swede-Finn social dynamic yet.

Cancer
I should pass on to you some of the old electronic football chatroom transcripts, which are heavily populated with Swedes and Finns. But, that chatroom has been gone since 2001....
L. Marcus
Queer Swedes and knife-nut Finns, is that it?
Cancer
No ... the Finns tended to be a little manic, while the Swedes were generally morose and depressed. Though a Finn posted from a list of Signs You've Been in Finland Too Long, which included sorting your old plastic bags to decide which could still be used and which could be disposed of as garbage, the phrase "religious holiday" means "Let's get pissed", and closed with "Your bad mood has become your good mood". L. Marcus
Very much like here. The man once said "A people's mentality can be described as a landscape. Ours is a damn great wet bog. Once, up in Luleå, one lady started billing herself as an optimism consultant. I don't hold with it. If our inner landscape is a damn great wet bog, no f-er ought to drain it!" Cancer
Scandinavian commonality, I guess. I imagine probably the comment about religious holidays is another point in common.
L. Marcus
More so before now, but it's still a binge-drinking culture around here. Downtown on Friday and Saturday nights can get pretty rowdy.
