Cancer
Considering the reference is to my institution's IT department, "clown" is correct. Pariah

Cancer
IT buffoonery is a recurrent theme in many places, here in particular.

Cancer
How often have you yngvied things up so completely that your employer went three days plus entirely unable to accept payments?
L. Marcus
... That's pretty bad.
Cancer
And that is among the things that happened here late last month. It was induced by a power outage (which is the only thing they were not responsible for); it seems clear they used their battery backups improperly, and when those ran to exhaustion they didn't bring things down gracefully, and they had only a rudimentary power-back-up protocol prepared. Each of those are individual indications of incompetence and grossly neglectful management.

Cancer
They have slowly been eliminating troubles, but I suspect the root cause remains unaddressed. A bunch of people got spam yesterday from a little-used system, and the last time that occurred we got a "never mind" email promptly. Still waiting to see if that happens again. Pariah
I can't imagine how you all are dealing with this. If the server goes down in my district for half an hour, it's like the end of the world as we know it.

Cancer
Well ... in general, I keep my working data local, rather than on the shared drives. I am dependent on the DFUAs for email, phone, printers, and internet. Those first two aren't crucial to what I have to do. Printing sometimes is, and I have had the incestuous coprophages render every printer on campus inoperable the morning I was to give my final, which is pretty much the nightmare scenario. Internet is a distraction, but one I enjoy. The liberal arts types generally don't realize how abjectly bad our IT is, and that's the only reason things are the way they are. Cancer
I seem to be more than averagely judgmental this morning, even for me.

Cancer
Any major whose name includes the word "science", but the major requires no math to speak of. There's four of them, though one has been closed (though a few students are still in the pipeline under the old catalog).
