Students lose SAN, the instructor captures some of it. It's not a completely efficient process (the instructor loses some to entropy when grading papers), but it does help a little in dealing with other SAN-destroying forces like deans and other administrators. I have suggested as a possible final exam question, "Discuss the ethical ramifications of cheating on your Ethics examination." When the student passed on that suggestion, all he got was a smile.
