Richard Logue
Yeah, I know... "You are not put on this Earth to get it, Mr. Logue." So, powers are generally out of the question in a strict Dark Champions setting? But costumes are okay? Batman is okay? Punisher? Taskmaster? Shadow? Cyborg? If you add powers into a Dark Champions settings it becomes DC:TAS and not Champions? what's the difference between DC:TAS and Champions? Impart thy wisdom upon mine doofus head. Eosin
Re: Not sure I get it... Flashy superpowers are generally out of the scope of DC but characters like Batman, Daredevil, Taskmaster, & Capt. America sure can fit in the genre. It just depends on how you want to set things up - we have run Stargate (Aliens & All), Several Chill & CoC type settings/modules, and low level psi-paranormal stuff (Firestarter, Deadzone, Buffy, Highlander, Crow, etc..) in DC and it worked just fine. DC: TAS IMO is more about a feel then about who has powers and who does not. If the backdrop is a world similar to ours and players aren't emerging supers then I think whatever you play qualifies in someways as a DC game. Legendsmiths
Re: Not sure I get it... *resonates* For powers in DC just avoid the flash. Many powers represent great ways to handle action-movie style abilities and prohibiting them outright is probably not the way to go. Of course, it comes down to the style of campaign. I would say the difference is that one (DC) is standard human vigilanties running around beat the crap out of, and shooting/killing, badguy. The other (DC:TAS) is a low-powered superhero game where characters are confined by normal characterist maximums and have a slightly darker tone than the standard four-color comic book. Killer Shrike
Re: Not sure I get it... An example of Action Adventure/Vigilante "Dark Champions" = http://www.killershrike.com/TheOmegaTeam/OmegaTeam.shtml (Eosin who posted above played in this campaign) DC: TAS = Batman TAS and Batman Beyond
JmOz
Re: Not sure I get it... Dark Champions= Action Movie (James Bond, Steven Segal, etc...) * Lots of killing DC: TAS * Very little killing My question is how do you handle Batman Comics, where the hero does not and will not kill, but the villain will

Captain Obvious
Re: Not sure I get it... I've seen several interpretations of Batman where he's killed, and presumably, not lost any sleep over it. Although, even at his worst, he doesn't generally intend to kill if he can get away with merely beating the living crap of the bad guy. Storn
Re: Not sure I get it... I think powers in Dark Champions is fine. But the majority of fights are going to be handled through martial arts (or fisticuffs) and guns. Powers that are not reliable or quirky are very Dark Champions, and then there are really powerful powersl like Ed Bruebaker's Sleeper, where the Hero feels no pain and regenerates like crazy... but ohmygod, is that a DARK, DARK Champions comic. The love interest gets stronger, younger and more beautiful, the more twisted, meaner and perverse she is. The trick is that the Heroes and 95% of the badguys should be able to be put down with a suitable amount of fireppower. Very rarely should you have a villain who is immune to the Stun and Body of say, a AK-47's max roll. Soak SOME of the damage through vest, armor and such? Absolutely. But enough bullets flyng towards the targets direction should put down the target. As long as defenses can by bypassed by killing attacks and killing attacks, whether it is a sword, gun or innate mutant power, is the weapon of choice, that falls under DC domain in my thinking.
