nightbringer256
ah the good old days when everyone knew cobra was evil and that G.I Joe was good. *sigh* right now i am in the process of brining cobra into my campang as a long story arc. here is my plot outline. let me know what you think. Bengal
Re: Cobra!! This was a great movie/miniseries (I forgett now), on par with really good anime you can see now. Don't make it a really bad game! If you mine source material so greatly as to nearly copy it, it's very very hard to cope with inventive players. As soon as one of your guys throws a monkey wrench into the works, you will be far off-course; any attempt you make to bring it back to the "correct" course will likely seem heavy-handed. Players don't like it if you don't give them options. n the other hand, if you and your players decide to run it as an "historical" simulation, and you all know how it's supposed to end, then there's nothing wrong with that. Also, if you have a good idea about how your players may be able to manipulate events, then you can better plan out your counter-moves. ut my main advice is: you'll probably (all of yall) end up disappointed. Although... Viper... I mean Cobra seems like a good fit. And there's no reason why GI Joe can't have a superhuman unit or two.
nightbringer256
Re: Cobra!! ahh but in my game there is no G.I Joe. i am just useing the comics as a idea source (i read a lot of gi joe). second thats how there plan will proceed if there is *no* interventions. i will use that as a spring board. if the players stop it in the first stage no problem. cobra withdraws and thinks for awhile, then when the heros least expect it cobra comes out of hiding with there newly trained anti-mutant soldiers leading. thats the back up plan. and i even have a back-up back-up. cobra threatens to drop a single crystal of Ice-9 (turn all water that it comes into contact with into more Ice-9) into the ocean, unless they are given control of the world and *dr.evil voice* one million dollars. those are my back-ups, also if they kill the plot, they kill the plot. i pack up and move on, but cobra never rests *manical laugher*
Badger
Re: Cobra!! No problem that I can see if it is allowed for the PCs to foil the plot. BTW, will COBRA have any kind of supers?
tkdguy
Re: Cobra!! Cool. I'm a COBRA fan myself. I even invented BOA as a rip-off version for my campaign. It sounds like an interesting plot. Are you going to include the other COBRA staples like Tomax and Xamot, Zartan, and Storm Shadow? Also, the GI Joe comic was brought back a couple of years ago. There's a pretty good storyline there.
nightbringer256
Re: Cobra!! yes i will bring in all the classic characters like zartan, storm shadow, etc. also the pcs can foil the plot by stopping any one act. those list are more like check lists than outlines. also cobra will not have any super (for now ) however they will have a anti-super unit made up of elite CGs and mega-armored bats (yay androids) i will keep you guys filled in. Vanguard00
Re: Cobra!! Not to put a damper on things, cuz I've always been a GI Joe fan myself, but couldn't you just use VIPER source material for COBRA? Change the names, tweak the personalities and/or powers a bit, and voy-la! Instant bad guys! But to comment on the plot outline itself, I think it's a good outline. Just remember that no plan ever survives contact with the ene--er, players. Be prepared to adjust for the players' actions. Also consider little side adventures between plot points, either to break up the action or to introduce other elements (maybe even foreshadowing a future adventure). Overall, though, it's a good campaign concept.
nightbringer256
Re: Cobra!! it went great last night. the players got sucked into the plot nicly my favorite moment was when the team telepath went into a tele-vipers head. boom instant polish mine dectector. (a tele-viper is jacked into the entier cobra telecommuntications network, via the equivilant of a mind link, matrix style) now the telepath is using this tele-viper as a conduit into the entire cobra network. right now the heros are about to attempt to infiltrate the cobra base. tkdguy
Re: Cobra!! How did you organize the COBRA Heirarchy? In the official comic book it was led by Cobra Commander, then Destro, then the Baroness, then the Twins. Other comic books may shuffle the deck. Of course, the Cobra higher-ups were constantly jockeying for position, and they don't get along well with one another.
nightbringer256
Re: Cobra!! thats is the chain if command, accept for the twins as they haven't been introduced yet. but other than that it is the same as you said. till they make serpentor anyways
Badger
Re: Cobra!! I forgot about those BAT androids (how could I? ) Anyway, one good thing about androids, if you need a villain super, just bring an android or 3 in for upgrade. Though Cobra-La (if brought in) might have some supers. I seem to remember a big guy with wings. Dont know for sure about them, I quit watching at about that point. Badger
Re: Cobra!! Oh yeah I just remembered. i remember a GI Joe episode (that I got to re-watch a year or 2 ago on CN). Where Cobra took control of 3 ghosts (Roman soldier, a barbarian woman archer, and a WWI American pilot) by possession of a prized object of these in life (lucky coin, wedding ring, girlfriend's locket?). They could also be supers for Cobra if need be. Sorry, if I threw so much in, just trying to cover all bases for ya
nightbringer256
Re: Cobra!! thanks guys you have all been a great help first of all i'd like to thank the academy... next week for the group: Infiltrating the cobra base. *sinister music* the base is in the rockies, the heros have to foot it beacuse they don't want to show up on the radar. a storm will hit and obscur vision. then storm shadow comes along and one by one they fall to the vast martial arts of storm shadow... and cloraform (yay drugs!!!) feed back would be great. Cobra-La is from GI Joe: The Movie. The group is introduced and apparently destroyed all in the same sequence of events. Cobra-La had: Nemesis Enforcer (the guy with the wings, he could also bounce bullets) Golobulus (the head of the whole thing, with "evil scientist" skills, demi-brickness, and some kind of OIF that let him fly) and Pythona (think "female ninja with biotechnological weapons", and some kind of HKA (claws) that also did separate acid damage) Yes, my youth coincided with the 80s... Badger
Re: Cobra!! 55 STR?!?!?! 55 frigging STR??!!?!?! I've got to write this guy down to be my #1 henchman for my future evil plots
Lord Liaden
Re: Cobra!! Nemesis Enforcer was one of the cooler elements in the GI Joe movie IMO. His Defenses are a little low compared to his attacks (for reasons that Susano mentions in his writeup), but that could easily be corrected by bringing him up to the 350 pt. Standard Superhero total, which he's pretty close to anyway.
Badger
Re: Cobra!! Yeah Sgt Slaughter was lame (I realized this as a less than 10 year old). I would have to argue the point of low defenses just because of the fact they practically made Sgt Slaughter a bleeping super-powered character on that cartoon. Also one reason for some loss of interest. (thanks to slaughter I no longer freaked out over missing an episode ) But enough of me rambling. Sketchpad
Re: Cobra!! You know ... has anyone actually statted up the elite of Cobra? You know, the guys that have names rather than a faceless title? I've been kicking around ideas about this and would love to see what others have got For that matter, I'd also been thinking about a GI Joe Package system (kinda like the ones they used in Viper & UNTIL). Badger
Re: Cobra!! I dont know let's see Stormshadow-would have typical ninja skills (except more advanced) mostly Firefly- was saboteur, knowledge and skill w/ explosive would be a big one for him. Zartan and his siblings- would have disquise and stealth. Zartan (not sure about siblings) had a wierd skin reaction to sunlight if I remember (Physical Lim?) Dreadnoks- Torch, Ripper, Buzzer, Monkey Wrench, Thrasher has their own little specialty weapon. Could go on and on Anyway as far as the heiarchy (in no necessary order) Serpentor Cobra Commander Destro Baroness Major Blood Zartan, his borther and sister, Dreadnoks (Torch, Ripper, Buzzer, Monkey Wrench, Thrasher) Stormshadow Firefly Tomax & Xamot Dr Mindbender w/ unnamed troops Tele-Vipers Crimson Guard BATS (these were the androids, I think that was the name) the regular soldiers wearing blue w/black masks (what were they called anyway) .....if any others feel free to list ......and these are off top of my head with little watching of the since the 80s (maybe I have better memory than thought, though it is driving me a little crazy not to remember Zartan's siblings names, please help )
