MartianWarlord
Hey Guys- New to the boards, but I'm a Champs player from waaaay back (2nd edition box set, baby!). I'm toying with the idea of putting together a campaign set in either the MARVEL or DC "core" universes. The idea is for the PCs to be a team composed of mainly "2nd stringers" (think the Giffin Justice League or the Ostrander Heros for Hire). So the question is: Who would you put on the teams for Marvel and DC? Thanks- WOM
Logan D. Hurricanes
Re: 2nd Stringers An often tossed around idea. We've had a few discussions on the topic. I think Enforcer84 has a particular fondness for the B-Team characters. Really, though, I'd like to know more of what you're seraching for to help. What kind of team is this? And marvel and DC universes tend to be very different in philosophies, so their characters don't really blend well imnsho.
Supreme Serpent
Re: 2nd Stringers Heck, for DC, most of the established teams count as "second-stringers" compared to the Justice League.

Flames
Re: 2nd Stringers That's a fine idea, and my recommendation would be that if your players aren't averse to playing the official Champions metaverse, make use of the copious pre-existing source material and save yourself a lot of the time you might have to otherwise spend adapting villains and other NPCs from one of the published comic book worlds. You'd also spare yourself a lot of agonizing debate with the other aficionados of the comic book worlds in your gaming group who think they have the facts about the respective universes memorized better than you do. You wouldn't have to listen to "Oh, no way the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants would try something like that!" or "I'm going to go and knock on the Fantastic Four's front door and ask if I can borrow the neural stabilizer Mr. Fantastic invented in the latest issue." And interesting lateral move might be to run Teen Champions. That way, you've got lower-powered supers who actually have the potential to grow into full-powered supers, something for your players to look forward to as their characters struggle to meet the demands of their schoolwork whilst thwarting the forces of evil. Their status as second-string, low-powered supers won't be as much of a stigma, since, heck, they're just kids, but the characters might still feel second-rate when dealing with grown-up problems, just the way teenagers often do. MitchellS
Re: 2nd Stringers Who would you consider the 2nd stringers of the Champions Universe? Out of the characters who have write ups I'd say: Amphibian, Binary Man, Brother Thunder, Eagle-Eye, Juryrig, Kodiak, Sai, Sister Rain, and Technique are all second-stringers. Oh, you mean second stringer heros? Then try The Guardians (Marksman, Flair, Icestar, Rose, Golith, Gargoil, Dove, ect, ect, ect...) Thay are so much 'second string' that thay no longer exist.
