Help creating sentient-multi-powers (think Witchblade)

For my campaign, I'm creating an character with a concept that he is the wielder of a weapon similar to the Witchblade. Specifically, the concept that the weapon (well, it's more along the lines of a multi-power), is sentient, and has a will of its own and the intent of the will is not necessarily the same as the intent its wielder.

So, this would be a disadvantage. The question is, how would I execute this part of the disadvantage?

To what extent would the weapon go against its wielder's wishes? Would it' date=' for example, slay someone that its owner wanted to spare/capture alive?[/quote']

Yes. It could essentially cause the wielder to go into a near-berserker rage (with the exception that the wielder could tell friend from foe, and not attack his/her friends.)

Also, possibly after losing a battle of wills with the weapon (or if the wielder himself is knocked unconscious, or perhaps is beaten by a mentalist), the weapon's personality would come to the forefront (which would probably give an immunity to mental attacks of some kind).

Yeah buying a follower that has mind link, some mental controll or influence ability...I'd go with a must take "Target is unaware of power" level of Mental illusions...but I'm totally Evil.....and let the follower have it's own agenda, and be in controll of the Multi..."Stun blast!" ZORCH! "hey that was not a ...stun...blast...." (Que police sirens)

Enraged or the Accidental Change disad, plus other disads reflecting the rest of the alternate personality. Maybe just Accidental Change and Multiform, with the alternate form being the character when overcome by the weapon.

Thank you very much. This will be very helpful.

There is no limit to the number of effects you may acquire with the Side Effects disadvantage on the Multipower. You MAY choose disadvantages. Very few people remember this, but this was the original intent of the limitation.

There's no need to put a broken construct like an AI on a sheet like that.

There are guidelines for building sentient artifacts on p. 279 of Fifth Edition Fantasy HERO. One of our boardmates, Michael "Susano" Surbrook, has used those guidelines to write up several famous fictional sentient weapons for his marvelous website, Surbrook's Stuff. Some of the writeups could provide useful precedents for you:

Grospolina

Stormbringer

Sword of Kas

In my campaign, it was built as a Watched: Sword Spirit. Spirit will depower. So you can wield the blade, but the spirit that has control of all the fun magical powers that go with it will not work if it doesn't like you. If it becomes necessary to have a test of wills, just assign the sword spirit mental characteristics(mainly EGO and Mental DEF) and figure out some sort of test of wills mechanic(opposed EGO rolls is what we used). It worked fairly well.
