IIRC one of the proposals for the origian Polaris missiles was to have 3-6 of them mounted on Carriers, and something like 3 on cruisers? I see excellent possibilities....for example: Vicious evil Nazi types sail across the Atlantic and use the 'rocket carrier' to launch V2 attacks against the US East coast !! My wild guess? Probably close to nothing. If the thrust from the rocket had nowhere to go, that would be one thing, but my unsupported hypothesis is that it's probably like a battleship broadside; It looks like there is a lot of depression, but it's really the pressure wave effect on the water, not actual movement of the ship. Obviously an explosion on the pad would be catastrophic--would you really want to have the engine compartment underneath the launch platform? But it's pretty kewl, nonetheless. Maybe one of those "floating city" concepts we see tossed around could go this one better, and have an actual Heavy Lift Launch Vehicle platform.
