SimComm Posted August 9, 2009 Report Share Posted August 9, 2009 Hi All, I wanted to make a post about one of my favorite character types: The Chibi of DOOM! They are usually young girls who are small, usually cute but very dangerous! My current Chibi is Saffron. Saffron is about 10 years old, very cute (usually pigtails, long hair) and is normally adorable. However, she is one of the STRONGEST metahumans in the campaign world. (She has STR 70, where the very strong metahumans are STR 50). She is also very nearly invulnerable, and can leap very long distances. Her powers are accidental, as her mother was affected by a mysterious ray that was fired at a crowd a people during an alien invasion, giving them all strange powers that were temporary. However, Saffron's abillities turned out to be not so temporary, and recently manifested. She is actually a very nice girl, but is prone to episodes that have city-levelling potential. She is easily scared, and when she is frantic, she does not know her own strength and can easily do a LOT of damage. The world keeps her in a very secure facility off the coast of New York City, where she is kept with medication and a large group of Staff. The PCs have been invovled with her for two different plot types: 1. The PCs are one of the few people that Saffron trusts (she has a crush on Harry, the lead PC), so the city will call them out if Saffron somehow gets loose. Sometimes, just to distract ALL of the law enforcement of the city, villains will let Saffron out and put her in a potentially Saffron-mayhem situation (i.e. a Halloween parade). As a side note, the code for Saffron danger is "Code Saffron." 2. The other type is when the PCs actually break Saffron out herself as they need a "Saffron Bomb," when a very dangerous creature or horde is loose and they need her to do some extreme damage. Harry has also broken her out on her birthday, as he felt she shouldn't stay in a facility on her birthday Please feel free to use Saffron (she wouldn't mind visiting!) and let me know if you have any Chibi of Doom in your worlds -SC Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I feel the government would do better to put her into a country setting, where she can walk around outside, and all she can damage would be some trees. Plus she should have tutors, including ones on how to use her power safely; and probably her own full time therapist! You could have the PCs suggest this, or you could have Sgt Superior do so. He wants to be close to her so he can see her on a daily basis. The city itself actually is ALWAYS worried that Saffron is so close, but it is hard to argue with powerful people Although it is not said, I think her father is hoping that the powers are temporary, so is more willing to have people keep an eye on her rather than hire people to teach her about her abilities... The Sgt actually has a healthy respect for Saffron, as he scared her one time and she threw him across the Hudson River What is PS238? -SC Edit: Oh, I just saw your thread! Is PS238 your campaign? As an aside, my favorite moment with Saffron was when a giant monster was summoned by a group of renegade wizards to devour New Jersey! (Harry joked that it would just die of indigestion ) They saved the day with Saffron by dropping her from a very high altitude with a lot of explosives. She was strong enough to penetrate through its skin and then the explosion was made from inside. The PC's picked her up after that, and they all went out for ice cream sundaes! You might be interested to know that back in on of the early issues of FF (# 2 or 3 I think) the Thing carried a "big bomb" inside (down the throat) of a super-giant monster menacing NYC. Anyway, back to PS238: if you go to where the on-line comics are, use the double arrow button to go to the start, and read issues 0 thru 2 or 3, and you will get a good taste of it. If so, I apologize, I just like the cute, but dangerous characters I also wanted to share the first time that Sgt Superior (the NPC leader of the Justice Battalion, a goverment super-group met Saffron). (This was a while ago, so it may not be 100% accurate ) PC's have spent maybe 30 minutes real-time trying to quietly remove people from the surrounding five blocks of New York City around Saffron. Harry (the lead PC) talking to a group of police: Ok, now I need you all to hang back. Don't do anything threatening. Let me do the talking and I think we can... (pauses, as he makes his PER roll). Harry and his team look up to see the flying jet-car of the Justice Battalion hovering down. Red (another PC): Oh, this is going to go swimmingly. Why don't we just cover ourselves with battery acid? It'll be less painful... The Justice Battalion, lead by Sgt Superior walk out. Sgt: Alright. I'm in charge here (pushes past Harry to the police). What's the situation? Police Officer: She's over there sir. The Sgt takes out his binoculars and sees Saffron eating an ice cream cone at a park bench. Sgt: Right. So invisible? Shapeshifter? Police Officer: No, sir, it's... the girl. Sgt: (pauses) You're kidding me. Harry: Listen, Sarge, you have to... Sgt: (interrupting) I don't think I have to do anything Browncoat. Data file on her? Rockhead (the Sgt's teammate) hands him a file. Sgt: (mumbling) Name, association, blah, blah... Class 16 Strength? You gotta be kidding me! Some egghead probably just put a 1 in front of it. Class 16. Ha, not even Omni-Man has class 16 strength. Harry: Listen, she's not as... Sgt: And I don't think I have to listen to you. Rockhead, restrain him if he tries to interfere. I'll take it from here. I've dealt with girls before, got a little girl of my own. Heh, Class 16... Girl looks like she could barely bench-press a motorcycle... Red: Just let him go Harry, we're never going to be lucky enough that she'll actually kill him... Sgt Superior walks out confidently to Saffron, the PCs watch and listen on the Justice Battalion's communicators. He puts a hand on her shoulder. Sgt: Alright, that's enough for today little missy. Saffron turns, looks up at the HUGE man with red and green facepaint. Saffron: KYAAA!! (flails arm and slaps the Sgt in the next city) Everyone looks up to watch the Sgt sail over the tops of the buildings. Red: At least he has good form. It's not so much that loli-characters make people uncomfortable; lots of comics have had child characters. It’s more the term loli that will bother many people. Loli tends to have a sexual connotation in the West. The term loli is automatically connected with lolita (the word loli came from) or lolicon. I’m not sure how it is in Japan, but lolicon in the US is generally considered “cartoon child porn” (even if it isn’t actually pornographic) and sets off most people pedophile alarms. For example, there is nothing wrong with the picture you posted, but most Americans familiar with the term would be uncomfortable simply because the word lolicon is plastered beneath it and that implies a sexual nature to the character. Basically the character you describe sounds adorable and I think would be a lot of fun in a campaign. You may just want to avoid calling her a “loli” or calling any outings with adults “dates”. I did not know this (I'm not even sure how it is in Japan, honestly :embarrassed: ) I've been called "loli-type" before, and I didn't really take offense. I deleted the picture though. Didn't even think pornographic. Now, Ben Grimm taking Saffron out on a "Date" would be more of a non-date in Ben's mind. Where he's taking the small child who spends her days locked up in a prison out to Ice Cream and her favorite Movie. To him she would be like a daughter or a little sister. Now to her it could be dream date time. She could have a huge crush on him. Sounds like she is a mini-hulk. Is ok unless something makes her mad or scares her. Then it's destruction on a massive scale with nearly noone being able so stop her, but her bestest friend Harry. Interesting. It's something that would be fun to inflict on an establish campaign.
