Steve Long
Heard a favorite old song on the radio over the weekend, and it inspired me with an idea for a Post-Apocalyptic Hero scenario I definitely have to run at a con sometime: EAST BOUND AND DOWN The boys are thirsty in New Atlanta, and there's beer in the Republic of Texarkana. Can your group of adventurers safely get a truckload of valuable suds through the radiation-blasted, mutant-infested wastelands in between? I recently ran a zombie holocaust game (where the zombies, in true Romero style, were not what it was really all about) as part of a short campaign, inspired by The Last Balloon from XTC. The party had to escort a group of children to the top of an office block from where the last airship to safety was due to leave. The last balloon is leaving, the last balloon from fear The last balloon is leaving, form that line right here Actually, the entire campaign was based on XTC songs. It made for a very enjoyable research period

(No, I mean the BOOK Damnation Alley by Roger Zelazney. Not that god-awful brain-dead movie.... Movies suck. I hate movies. /snarkasm) OK, it wasn't beer, it was serum needed for a plague. And it was California to Boston. But it had everything: giant mutant lizards, killer tornadoes, hordes of bloodthirsty bikers, and a whole lot of explosions. Does this end with the PCs finding out their truck was full of dirt and the beer was in the bus all along? Speaking of post-apocalypse and music, I always thought the song "Do It Again" by Steely Dan sounded post-apocalyptic.

Yes, in some ways it certainly does. Also their excellent "King Of The World." And in some minor ways perhaps even "Babylon Sisters." Yeah, kinda a Dan fan here, why do you ask? jtelson
Re: Post-Apocalyptic Song Inspiration That would work well for a con game, it could even be Pony Express'd up for a good PA campaign (1 Part Battlestar Galactica, 1 Part DS9, a dash of The Gauntlet shake well with the old west and pour over a world gonne mad). Might work well for one of James Ernest's Cheapass games (Players compete to get the beer through) - though it would probably end up named Beer Run

Chris Goodwin
Re: Post-Apocalyptic Song Inspiration Post-apocalypse and truckers. Go together at least as well as zombies and autoduel-style vehicles. Post-zombie-apocalypse beer run with armed escort vehicles!
