Shriver focuses on the relative importance of innate characteristics and personal experiences in determining character and behaviour, and the book is particularly concerned with the possibility that Eva's ambivalence toward maternity may have influenced Kevin's development. Shriver also identifies American optimism and "high-hopes-crushed" as one of the novel's primary themes, as represented by Franklin, the narrator’s husband, who serves as "the novel’s self-willed optimist about the possibility of a happy family."[1]

Rationalization for Kevin's behavior is one of the central themes of the story: When asked the simple question "Why?" after the massacre, he responds that he is giving the public the excitement and scandal that it secretly craves. Only in rare instances does another side of Kevin emerge: in childhood, when he becomes very ill, and later, just before he is transferred to an adult prison and is evidently nervous. Near the end of the book, when asked for the first time by his mother "Why?," he responds, "I used to think I knew. Now I'm not so sure."

I think it is safe to say the Keeper had a point about how what would happen at the Conclave might impact the Lavellan clan seeing as it is common knowledge that the Dalish clan harbor apostates and the warfare between mages and templars have already impacted the clan negatively seeing as they had to leave a place at one point because of the conflict spilling into the countryside.

The Dalish player character was specifically sent to bring back news on what outcome was decided upon during the Conclave between the Divine and the feuding factions.

Basically, I see it as making sense fine.

DESCRIPTION:

On his upper body, Faris wears a custom-made apatosaurus leather jacket that's mottled grey and dark purple. The jacket features a single zipper and two outer flaps that can be secured shut with brass buttons. Beneath this, he has on a rough sage-green wool shirt with a low collar. His pants are mass-produced generic black Levis that have lost some of their darkness either through simple wear or countless sessions of more primitive laundry methods (such as wilderness washing). His footwear is a pair of dun brown low-shaft steel-toed boots that still retain some of their shine.

Under the jacket and on his pants he wears a simple black belt with a two-prong buckle. Threaded on the belt and resting on the outside of his waist is an old-fashioned stitched holster containing a Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan that has been parkerized in charcoal black and six exterior loops full of .454 Casull. The left pocket contains eleven spare rounds.

In plain sight, he carries a thin and flexible khaki sheath just to the rear of his right pants pocket. Within the sheath is a kukri with a eight inch carbon steel blade and oak grips featuring a fat checkered line of rubber running down the middle to ensure a more solid grip.
