TL;DR: Without zero, it doesn't make sense to have negative numbers either. Without negatives, half of subtraction is just gone, because you have to end up with a positive number. With subtraction crippled, algebra is also useless, which means you can't have calculus, trigonometry, useful comparison operators, or basically anything other than the four basic operations. Also you need zero for positional (base-10) numeral systems, for the same reason that you need it for binary encoding. So that means you're stuck using stuff like Roman numerals, or even Peanno/unary/tally counts. And that makes even basic addition, multiplication, etc. extremely tedious to do and probably error-prone with pen and paper.
