shuddemell
Greetings.. I have a player which wishes to buy a follower, but make it a bound demon inside a sword. I think the idea is good and has story line merits all over the place... However, as a follower it is loyal, and I would prefer to have the ability to make it slowly subvert the characters will for a story arc. Since I am entitled to build the "character" as gm, that isn't a problem, however it seems to get around the intent of followers in the first place. How would you model this? Starcloud
Re: Demon Sword Follower? Build it as a summon instead? Or add "Transform wielder into subverted wielder" (1d6 transform, cumulative, constant, a really long fade rate and with extra time on use bought up to the one week level or something, whatever time frame works best) as a power to the list of the sword's powers. caris
Re: Demon Sword Follower? Talk to the player, and make sure they are open to this idea. If they are, than I would give the PC a Hunted Complication to represent the fact that the demon is trying to subvert him.

Lucius
Re: Demon Sword Follower? Or make it a Contact instead of a Follower, and the demon is an NPC not really controlled by the player character. Or, depending on how powerful it is, even a Dependent Non Play Character, the default mechanic for characters that cause trouble and complication for player characters. Possibly at 0 pts because it's obviously very useful. shuddemell
Re: Demon Sword Follower? Thanks all for the excellent ideas... I was planning on a cumulative, constant transform, very much like what you described Starcloud, so we are on the same wavelength there. I like the idea of a side effect limit on the follower perk, which really compensates for the potential trouble it will cause them... Also, mucho gracias for being so quick to answer... Have to resolve this relatively quickly now that classes are over and it is break time... when the gaming heats up! Cheers to all!
Old Man
Re: Demon Sword Follower? I once tried something similar, only I bought the sword as the PC and the pathetic human as the follower. It let me do all kinds of sick minimaxing things, like the phys lims on the sword, buying them as each other's DNPCs... it was so bad I couldn't bring myself to actually play the character. Ockham's Spoon
Re: Demon Sword Follower? Unless the sword is largely independent of the character (it can fly around by itself, spy on people, order a drink at the bar, etc.) I don't think I would model this as a Follower, especially since the demon is ultimately trying to bring about the character's downfall. If it were me, I would just build the sword as a set of powers that the charater had, and then tack on Side Effects or a Complication representing the fact that the demon is trying to take over.
