Alcibiades
Drain Striking Appearance. I see this used as a kind of Ugliness Spell, but I'm not sure how it works. Isn't it actually a "Make You Look Normal Spell," since 1) it affects negative SA and 2) zero SA is the baseline? Is there some special rule regarding this that I just haven't seen? dmjalund
Re: Spell of Ugliness wouldn't that only reduce Striking Appearance to zero. You would need Transformation to impose negative appearance
BhelliomRahl
Re: Spell of Ugliness Striking Appearance can represent either striking beauty or ugliness depending on how its defined. So Draining Striking Appearance would make either a ugly or beautiful person normal in appearance. You would use Transform to create a spell of ugliness. Cosmetic for 2 levels or Minor for more. Quick Write Up: 1) Curse of Ugliness: Minor Transform 6d6 (Person into Ugly Person (4lvls Striking Appearance - Ugly), Heals by Curse Removal Ability/Spell), Partial Transform (+1/2) (45APs); Extra Time (Full Phase, -1/2), Incantations (-1/4), Gestures(-1/4). Real Cost 22pts. 2) Curse of Ugliness: Minor Transform 6d6 (Person into Ugly Person (4lvls Striking Appearance - Ugly), Heals by Curse Removal Ability/Spell), Partial Transform (+1/2), Area of Effect Accurate (1m Radius; +1/2), Megascale (1m Covers Entire World; +2) (120APs); Extra Time (1 Minute, -1.1/2), Incantations (-1/4), Gestures(-1/4), No Range (-1/2), Focus OAF Expendable (Very Difficult to Obtain New Focus (Piece of Target - Hair, Nail, etc.); -1.1/2). Real Cost 24pts. Two versions of a Curse of Ugliness. No.1 is for use while confronting a person while No.2 is more of the Traditional Black Magic curse which requires a piece of the target and can be performed from the comfort of your home. CrosshairCollie
Re: Spell of Ugliness Couldn't you give someone Striking Appearance (Ugly), Useable As Attack or somesuch?
Ockham's Spoon
Re: Spell of Ugliness Under the description of Striking Appearance, the 6e1 book specifically states you should use Cosmetic Transform to make someone ugly instead of taking Striking Appearance UAA. But if you want a specific mechanic for the effects, you could also buy it like this: Beaten with the Ugly Stick: 3d6 Drain vs. PRE, Reduced Return rate 5pts/Week (+2½), only affects PRE rolls where attractiveness is a factor (-1). If you want to get fancy, you could link and Aid to that with the same limitation to reflect the fact that being ugly might help skills like Interrogation, but I don't think I would bother. Honestly the whole power seems much to costly for what it does, which is probably why the Cosmetic Transform is the recommended route. SSgt Baloo
Re: Spell of Ugliness You could also use Change Environment to give penalties to interaction skills. My first thought was "Change environment: Incredible stink". Kinda like Moonbeam McSwine from Lil' Abner.
Alcibiades
My issue is that Drain Strking Appearance does seem to be used as an Ugliness Effect in some published write-ups
bigbywolfe
My issue is that Drain Strking Appearance does seem to be used as an Ugliness Effect in some published write-ups That is a hold over from when Ugliness Spells and such were built as Drain COMliness in earlier editions. Sadly, Steve apparently did not see the need to change the write-up to actually fit with the new rules. My guess is he would treat it like a minor Transform if the character did not have a positive/beautiful Striking Appearance. I don't like that sort of inconsistency in builds based off of the core rules and would probably re-write it as a Transform as has been mentioned up thread.
