abort to dodge or block mental attack

hi buddies I wanted to ask if it is legal to abort a phase for dodge, block or do a defensive maneuver VS a mental attack. Or if you allow this in your session.  (a foe want to attack me with a mind control and i abort to dodge and boost my DMCV)

Thank

Steph

Technically, no - Dodge does not increase DMCV.

However, if the GM allows it, and it's campaign appropriate, you can add Mental Maneuvers that are similar to standard Maneuvers for such things. But they aren't part of the base system.

You could, however, Dive For Cover to a position that prevents Line Of Site Targeting (like behind full cover).

I think this should be a question you ask Steve, but I do think that you can't. All maneuvers have a bonus to either OCV or DCV, not MOCV or MDCV. Additionally, all maneuvers fall into HTH and Ranged, not Mental.

Personally, I do think there is a way to simulate this using limited MDCV.

3 MDCV (9 APs) Costs END (-1/2), Instant (-1/2) 4 RP.

I like the idea though!

Yes, the Ultimate Mentalist has maneuvers that constitute Mental Dodge and Mental Block.

In either case, I always allow a Mental Block if you have the same power as the attacker. Telepathy can block Telepathy, Ego Blast blocks Ego Blast, so on and so forth. To be able to block any sort of mental assault, one should purchase Mental Deflection....it works against any MCV attack with the Mental sfx.

I might allow a mental Dodge if the dodging character either has mental powers of their own, or has had some experience with mental attacks and has a sense of what to expect. In either case, they'd have to have Mental Awareness or some other way to know the attack is coming (apart from the GM picking up dice.

I would allow a mental Block if the blocking character has a mental power they can block with; I'm a little more liberal than NSG above, in that it doesn't have to be the exact same power as long as the player can articulate how they're going to use their Mind Blast to block a Mind Control attack. Same as Dodge re ability to perceive the attack. (Note this is in 6ed where blocking ranged attacks is something anyone can do if they have a plausible mechanism.)
